70 The Focus of Charm and Evidence

“It’s my fault.”

After checking the witch’s broom on the desk and finding it temporarily unusable, the red-haired director rubbed her temples and said seriously to Li Ang:

“I forgot to consider your situation. The previous owner of this broom was very wealthy and a devoted cat lover—she spared no expense in this regard.”

“Although she told me that ordinary standard care for the cat would suffice, her idea of ‘ordinary’ is still too high for most people… Hmm… but you don’t need to worry too much.”

After fiddling with the witch’s broom and confirming it was merely unable to be ‘activated,’ not completely stripped of its ‘anomaly,’ the red-haired director reassured him:

“The Lion Bureau has maintained contact with that witch. I’ll just ask them to explain things to you. Even if the witch is temporarily unreachable, it doesn’t matter—as long as the broom remains in your hands.”

“According to the contract, the cat will still come next Friday. Just spend time with her properly, and stop using your washbasin as her litter box—the witch’s broom should return to normal.”

After hearing the red-haired director’s words, Li Ang, who had accumulated a pile of issues, frowned and said:

“So… at the slowest, I might have to wait a week?”

“If slow, a week; if fast, maybe two or three days—it depends on when that witch’s match ends.”

After giving an uncertain timeline, the red-haired director smiled sweetly:

“Don’t worry—wait a week if you must. There’s no rush to infiltrate the Rayne family. That dead sheep’s heart won’t run off anytime soon.”

“Besides, aren’t you planning to move? It’ll be a hassle anyway—this is a perfect chance to tidy up and handle some miscellaneous matters.”

That’s true…

Thinking of his shooting badge still stuck at Bronze and his unboxed belongings at home, Li Ang nodded in agreement with the red-haired director, then seemed to remember something and asked hesitantly:

“Um… Emma senior told me that the deeper your understanding of anomalies and the more anomaly objects you interact with, the more likely you are to attract new anomalies.”

“Although the Happy Apartments are harmless and protect their residents, they’re still an anomaly object, right? If my whole family moves in…”

“Go ahead and move in—they won’t be targeted by anomaly objects.”

The red-haired director waved her hand:

“Contamination begins with ‘knowledge.’ They know nothing about anomaly objects—they don’t even realize they’re using one or comprehend how anomalies work—so they remain within the ordinary category and won’t be targeted.”

“The only thing you need to watch for is never using anomaly objects in front of them. Once they move into Happy Apartments, the Cult of the Xieshenzhinao won’t confuse their memories anymore.”

“I’ll remember.”

After hearing the red-haired director’s answer, Li Ang finally relaxed, nodded, picked up the broom from the desk, and was about to leave—when the red-haired director called out to him.

“Wait, take a look at this.”

This… a newspaper? Did some anomaly event happen and get published?

Seeing the stack of newspapers the red-haired director handed him, Li Ang’s expression tightened instantly—he slipped into worker mode and began flipping through them with serious focus.

“Winter Romance Matchmaking: Find the Perfect One for You”

“Eight Practical Tips: Lose Belly Fat in Thirty Days”

“MaiKo Underwear New Collection Launch—Welcome All Mai Fans to Try On In Store”

“Spray Perfume Here: One Hug Will Ignite His Desire”

“…”???????

“Wrong! Not ‘The Focus of Charm’—I told you to look at the next one!”

Snatching back the marked newspaper from Li Ang’s hands, the red-haired director cleared her throat, masking a small embarrassment, then pulled out the Sun Newspaper and pointed to the full-page headline:

“There—someone leaked the Water Company incident. It just hit the papers this morning.”

Huh? Besides me, someone else is watching the Water Company?

Hearing the Water Company incident had been leaked, Li Ang felt a surge of relief.

Although Charle Department Store had taken responsibility and compensated the hospitalized patients, the most crucial purpose of exposing the truth had already been achieved.

But for Li Ang, who had seen the faces of those three noble families, watching those bastards get entangled in trouble was itself a great thing—though this headline…

“Was the ‘Feces Water’ Incident Intentional? Thomas Rayne: Evidence is Forged”

Thomas… that’s the name of the blond middle-aged man from the Rayne family, right? So the Water Company incident has been leaked, but not yet settled?

After reading this merely “neutral” headline, Li Ang frowned and sighed inwardly.

If only the evidence hadn’t been lost…

After defeating that damned editor of Daily News, I’d planned to go to Charle Department Store and hand them the evidence proving the feces water incident was intentional—but I was caught right there by that toad.

When I was moved from the shopping plaza to right in front of it, I was holding the sheep’s head in one hand and the broom in the other—no third hand free—so the evidence must’ve fallen somewhere in the shopping plaza.

Later, though I dealt with the toad, I was smashed into the hospital by Golden Wheel Mountain. When I woke up and went back to look, it was gone—probably picked up by someone…

Damn! So it was you who picked it up!

Seeing the article’s line—“Evidence collected by reporter from Charle Department Store headquarters”—Li Ang’s face darkened instantly. He could already guess what came next.

Sure enough, the blond-haired Thomas, in the interview, outright dismissed the authenticity of the evidence, claiming the Water Company had never suffered theft and that deliberately pouring feces water to cripple Charle Department Store was pure nonsense.

He even used the opportunity to mock Charle Department Store relentlessly, implying that “Old Charle” was trying to shift public attention to avoid paying massive compensation.

“Sigh…”

At this point, Li Ang knew there was no need to read further.

As a major shareholder of Charle Water Company, this evidence, if leaked by Charle Department Store, would naturally carry some credibility—even if the reporter claimed to have received an anonymous tip, it would still prompt some suspicion and at least gain attention.

But that reporter was stubbornly honest—he outright wrote that he’d just picked up the information, not caring if people suspected him of fabricating stories… sigh… never mind. Compared to others who wouldn’t even report it, he had the courage to expose it—and besides, he was telling the truth: the evidence really was found.

With a helpless shake of his head, Li Ang didn’t dwell on it further. He calmly returned the newspaper to the red-haired director.

“Don’t you want to say something?”

Watching Li Ang’s eyes filled more with resignation and frustration than anger, the red-haired director raised an eyebrow and smiled sweetly:

“Those three families escaped punishment—I thought you’d be furious. Why do you look so calm?”

“Of course I’m angry.”

Li Ang shook his head:

“But my goal in stealing the evidence wasn’t to punish evil and reward good—it was to ensure the patients received compensation, so they wouldn’t have to scream on hospital floors.”

“Though it’s not perfect now, the original goal was achieved. The rest can wait—I’ll keep it on record for later. Do you have anything else? If not, I’d like to spend these days practicing at the shooting range.”

“None left~ Go ahead, go~”

Watching Li Ang leave with a smile, the red-haired director sipped her tea and narrowed her eyes thoughtfully.

So he didn’t give up completely—he just planned to hold onto it for later?

By the way… I told him to infiltrate the Rayne family under the guise of claiming kinship—could he be planning to use this “opportunity” to give me a “big story”?
