Chapter 920: 518 Shocked

~6 min read 1,196 words

Although the long-tailed giant horse seemed a bit talkative, it appeared eager to chat, as if desperately wanting someone to talk to.

But the three cleaners were just one step away from returning to the living world—yet at the most critical moment, they were forcibly yanked back, their fury now overflowing, far more inclined to strangle the creature alive than to chat with it.

“We were so close!”

After shaking off the crushing disappointment, the fiercest of the female cleaners, Mo Na, roared out loud. Ignoring that her arms were still clamped by the tentacles’ suckers, she wrenched them free, swinging her blood-drenched limbs as she desperately tore at the tentacles binding her.

The other two weren’t much better; though their bodies had nearly turned transparent from first burning their souls and then being ambushed, they still shouted and struggled, trying to break free from the so-called Death Messenger’s grip.

“Ah… fine, if you don’t want to chat.”

Seeing these three cleaners were so uncooperative, the long-tailed giant horse sighed in disappointment, then wrapped its tentacles around them and headed toward the Gate of the Dead, chattering nonstop as it walked:

“Let me tell you, when your Cleaning Bureau’s madman ate the Dog God, I was actually there—man, that scene wasn’t just bloody, you’ve never seen anything like it, you can’t even imagine how insane he was.

The Guard Dog God he devoured might’ve been the weakest among the True Gods of the Underworld, but even the weakest is still a True God—and yet he got slaughtered, swallowed whole, and then devoured from the inside out, utterly ruthless!

When we Death Messengers arrived, that madman was holding the Dog God’s heart, gnawing on it while crawling out of its belly, drenched in blood, his clothes soaked through with divine blood, not a single other color left on him!”

After rambling on for a while, the long-tailed giant horse plopped down on the empty ground once occupied by the three-headed Dog God, outside the Gate of the Dead, then began stuffing two dead souls into its mouth while continuing excitedly:

“Tsk tsk, back then, none of us Death Messengers ever expected to witness something like that—we were all stunned into silence.

The eyeless fish in the River of Oblivion leapt frantically into the water, the Blood-Headed Crows took off without looking back, the Bone-Tamed Deer exploded on the spot—and they’re still not recovered.

Luckily, I had less courage than them; I didn’t dare get close from the start, just glanced from afar and ran off—but still got scolded by the Master, forced to be the first on gate duty.

Hmm… honestly, guarding this gate is boring. Those weak souls who step onto the Path of No Return can’t stop moving—they can’t even finish two sentences before they’re gone. But you three? Your soul strength is decent—you should last three or five days?”

“How about this: you three stay here and keep me company. I’ll wait four days, until the Blood-Headed Crow comes to relieve me, then eat you. What do you say? Interested?”

“Get lost! Get the hell out of here!”

“Ah, fine then. Thought I’d have some fun.”

Seeing the female cleaner glaring at him with clear hostility, the long-tailed giant horse sighed helplessly, then opened its massive mouth full of molar-like teeth, wrapping its tentacles around her to shove her inside.

“Hey, horse! Wait!”

At that moment, a frantic voice rang out from afar. The long-tailed giant horse glanced sideways and saw a tiny, crimson figure hurrying toward it.

Who the hell are you to tell me to wait? How dare you have such a big face?

Checking the newcomer’s soul strength, the giant horse found it only slightly stronger than a regular cleaner—half as strong as the one in its mouth—and sneered in contempt, ready to bite down.

But then, the other two cleaners, having recognized the newcomer’s face, cried out in despair:

“Li Ang? How… are you dead too?”

Oh, so his name’s Li… wait—Li Ang? The God-Eater Li Ang?!

Upon hearing that terrifying name, the long-tailed giant horse shuddered violently—and then, in utter horror, realized the glowing red little figure was indeed the God-Eater it had glimpsed long ago. As for why he glowed red…

That was god-blood that wouldn’t wash off!!

“Help! Master, save me!!!”

Realizing what had happened, the long-tailed giant horse screamed in terror, leapt up from the ground, and bolted wildly toward the Gate of the Dead, shouting for help as it ran—its legs visibly stumbling awkwardly.

Seeing it nearly reach the gate, Li Ang, who was rushing over, panicked.

Simply put, the Guard Dog God’s power could only activate through the Gate of the Dead—and like the three-headed Dog God, it could only block entry or exit, never release anyone from within.

In short: if the three cleaners’ souls hadn’t yet crossed the threshold, Li Ang, who had replaced the Guard Dog God, could stop them at the gate. But if they’d already passed through, whether they could come back out depended entirely on them.

“Stop! Don’t run!”

Hearing Li Ang’s roar, the giant horse trembled, stumbled forward two steps, nearly falling—but instead of stopping, it ran even faster.

Only a fool would stop!

The God-Eater vanished for days, then suddenly reappeared outside the Underworld Gate—likely finished digesting the Dog God and now hungry again, coming back for more! If I don’t run, am I going to wait to be eaten?

No choice…

Watching the giant horse’s front hooves already cross the threshold of the Gate of the Dead, its neck tentacles dragging the three cleaners just about to pass through, Li Ang sighed, then halted, raised both hands, and slammed them together toward the distant gate:

“Shut it!”

With Li Ang’s roar, two massive gates materialized from nothingness—the Gate of the Dead, separating life and death, slammed shut with a thunderous crash, unleashing a torrent of dense death energy that blew away all the dead on either side.

Seeing that Li Ang was willing to forcibly close the gate just to taste him, the fleeing giant horse was so terrified his soul nearly left his body. Ignoring the risk of injury, he desperately thrust his head through the gate before it closed…

“Boom!”

The heavy gates sealed completely. The giant horse’s body was severed outside, but its head tumbled through—still clinging to two remaining tentacles on its neck, it ran upright like a human, screaming at the top of its lungs:

“Run! Run fast! The God-Eater’s hungry again!!!”

“….”

What the hell is this thing…

Through the sealed gate, Li Ang watched the horse-head sprinting away on the Path of No Return, waving its two octopus tentacles like legs—his sanity plummeting, his scalp prickling. He immediately pulled out the [Silver Shearing Dagger] and cut free the three cleaners bound by the tentacles.

“Li Ang? You…?”

“No time to explain!”

Feeling the Underworld churn violently again after the forced closure of the Gate of the Dead, fearing the Masters of the Underworld might catch him, Li Ang grabbed the three stunned seniors and turned to flee back the way they came.

“Go! Now, or it’s too late!”
