Chapter 148: My Psychosis Is Cured, Now We're All

~6 min read 1,053 words

"Name?"

"Tichano Reed."

"Age?"

"42 years old."

"Gender?"

"Male."

"Occupation?"

"Officer of the Reed family, primarily responsible for overseas operations."

"What is the goal of this voyage?"

……

"I mean, do you really have to ask like this?" Sara kept the dog seated at a distance, watching Tichano, completely under Feng Xue's control; but more than the answers, Feng Xue was struck by how, every time she merged with Feina, her tone became unnervingly human… except the first time they met.

Sara's questions clearly failed to disrupt Tichano's trance—he stared blankly, eyes vacant, answering like a machine:

"To recover the last legacy of the Lupu family."

"Hey!" Sara suddenly shouted, but before Feng Xue could react, Feina reached out and pressed her hand down on her.

The girl now wore a slightly pathological smile, bending to press the dog's head down, then lifting her head to look up at Feng Xue:

"It's fine. Ask whatever you want. I don't care."

"Interesting." Feng Xue's lips curled slightly as he observed both their expressions and said:

"What is the Lupu family's legacy?"

"…"

The instant he asked this question, Tichano—who had been answering everything—paused. He opened his mouth to reply, but suddenly something emerged from within his body.

"Damn it!"

Feng Xue, who had kept his Qi Vision active, immediately caught the crimson aura of vow-power and activated the Substitute Technique, instantly teleporting himself over ten meters backward—his poor precision nearly sent him tumbling into the sea.

When he looked back at Tichano, the man had become a horrifically mangled corpse.

Beneath his high-tech suit, his skin had been cleanly stripped away with an almost artistic precision, exposing muscle and fat to the air, mingling with a faint metallic rust odor to form a nauseating stench.

But the skinning was clearly not the cause of death—soon Feng Xue understood why, as a yellowish-white substance began seeping from his nose and ears.

"His brain was destroyed?" Feng Xue frowned at Sara, who merely shook her head:

"It looks like a punishment from the God of the Hunt, but those usually strike enemies of the Reed family—I have no record in my database of any Reed family member turning out like this."

"Punishment? So it's a vow?" Hearing this, Feng Xue understood. But Sara froze for a moment, then asked:

"That's what you meant—never make promises before a god?"

"Something like that. But different gods work differently—Thunder God strikes with lightning, Fire God incinerates outright. Skin-stripping seems like how you treat prey, but given the brain's condition, this style resembles live evisceration during fish processing. So is the Reed family's God of the Hunt… a fish-hunter?" Feng Xue's tone was odd—he'd assumed the red-robed man with the dog was a wolf-god of the hunt!

"No, the God of the Hunt is one of the Twelve Wolf Gods. But after the Sea God's apocalypse, most believers turned to the sea for food, so fishermen replaced hunters…" Here, Feina noticed Sara and Feng Xue staring at her with strange expressions. She paused, then shook her head:

"I'm just speculating based on your earlier analysis of gods. It might not be right."

"No, you're probably very close to the truth. After all, believers' perceptions of prey shape the god's power." Feng Xue nodded, then suddenly said:

"You look like a person!"

"Bang!"

Liu Yunxi finally transformed into human form. Having seen everything with her "eyes," she didn't even ask what to do—she simply walked toward the corpse:

"You want to keep this gear, right? Clean up the blood yourself later!"

"I haven't even said anything yet…" Feng Xue had never intended for Liu Yunxi to handle this—he was just a bit hungry and wanted her to prepare lunch. But Liu Yunxi had already begun working, so he said nothing more, redirecting his attention back to Feina.

Seeing Feng Xue's gaze, Feina's face flushed with a slightly pathological redness. She blinked excitedly, as if saying:

"Don't ask that stupid dog—ask me! Ask me!"

Feng Xue felt he needed to do the opposite with this woman—her cooperation only increased the likelihood she'd approach death.

And given the current situation, their interests were still aligned. If he pushed her to the brink of death, he suspected he wouldn't fare much better himself.

So he simply turned his gaze toward the dog, now utterly resigned.

The dog glanced at Feina, then at Feng Xue, then flopped onto the ground and spoke with unmistakable humanity:

"Do whatever. You won't drop your curiosity even if I stop you—it'll just fracture our cooperation. And even if I tried to stop you, I couldn't. This thing will tell you eventually anyway. If she won't, your abilities will make her talk—or frankly, I'd believe you if you dragged the corpse's soul out right now to interrogate it!"

"I can't do that. His soul was burned away by the God of the Hunt the instant he broke his vow."

Feng Xue replied honestly, then sighed:

"My reason tells me to suppress my curiosity, but I must understand what kind of landmine I'm facing. So, can you tell me exactly what happened?"

"Calling me a landmine is rude! Don't think I don't know about the 'landmine woman' rumors from Chifeng Island Cluster!"

Feina uttered a remark utterly unlike her, then cleared her throat twice and walked two elegant steps—giving Feng Xue the surreal sensation of watching a gorilla perform ballet.

Seeing this, Sara stood on her hind legs, leaning against the railing and spreading her dog paws:

"The recent battle stimulated her neural center, releasing a surge of adrenaline and other hormones. Combined with intense physical exertion, her metabolism accelerated, causing the drug's side effects to dissipate faster than calculated. But she's not fully recovered yet—so proceed with caution. Per our original agreement, I've already transferred this woman to you. Do whatever you want with her."

Watching Sara's "I'm done, just end it already" posture, Feng Xue felt he'd inherited a massive mess. But Feina clearly gave him no chance to regret it—she spoke directly:

"Forgive me. Our name is Seraphina Lupu, the forty-seventh daughter of the Lupu family patriarch—and the last legacy of the Lupu family."

"Our?" Feng Xue frowned, but turned to see Sara—also staring at Feina in shock!

"Wait, host! Explain—what do you mean 'we'?"
