Chapter 243: Why Don

~6 min read 1,150 words

"Kingdra!"

A shrill voice pierced the silence of the Demon King's Castle; everyone had long grown accustomed to Bi Gelei's hysterical screams.

If you asked why, it was probably because Bi Gelei loved disguising herself as a human and wandering through human cities.

And why, if she wandered among humans, did she always bother Kingdra?

That could only mean the heroes' way of thinking was flawed.

Although his attention was entirely on the Hidden Village, due to the dungeon mechanics, whenever Feng Xue personally controlled his projection, he would instantly teleport to a room in the Demon King's Castle, so his true body had simply moved in, leaving only a consecrated statue as the hub for remote ability transmission.

Hearing Bi Gelei's scream, he sighed and said:

"Just say what you want—don't torture my ears!"

"Think of something for me! Now every time I enter the city, those heroes surround me demanding quests! Where am I supposed to get quests for them?" Bi Gelei had once genuinely liked those strange heroes who constantly called her "wife"—after all, if a group of people kept bringing you gifts out of nowhere, you'd be happy too.

But now, under Kingdra's influence, these sycophants stopped giving gifts and started demanding quests—how frustrating is that?

"Just give them something random! Like sending them to climb a mountain to find some object—you've done it before, haven't you?"

Feng Xue merely shrugged at Bi Gelei's试探; though this woman seemed the most innocent of all the Demon Kings, Feng Xue didn't believe any true傻白甜 would venture into the enemy's stronghold just for dessert while everyone else was burning out.

Undoubtedly, this was Bi Gelei testing his plans.

"It's different! Before, those heroes were easily satisfied with just a trinket—but now they want to learn Blood Magic! Blood Magic! They're not vampires—why on earth would they learn Blood Magic? Am I supposed to turn them into vampires too? I don't even have that much primal blood!"

Bi Gelei's pitiful, innocent expression made Feng Xue once again doubt whether she was truly stupid—but out of caution, he still shook his head and said:

"No way. If you really can't help it, just toss them some knowledge and let them learn it themselves!"

"How can you do that? Knowledge is precious!" Bi Gelei shook her head vigorously, but Feng Xue sighed and replied:

"Don't you even understand the situation? You don't seriously think those crazy heroes have the patience to study thick tomes, do you? You don't need to teach them step by step—don't you have some advanced textbooks? Just throw them out, incomplete and unexplained. The material is real, but even if they have identification abilities, it won't help—they just won't be able to learn it, and that's their problem, got it?"

"Oh!" Bi Gelei's eyes lit up, and she nodded eagerly—but then she suddenly sniffed the air and said:

"Hey, why does it smell so good in here?"

"Does it?" Feng Xue sniffed too, but detected no unusual scent—he briefly wondered if she was changing the subject.

But Bi Gelei insisted seriously:

"Definitely—it's pure moonlight essence, and there's also transcendent bloodline. Oh! That snake you keep! I knew it! How could a lightning-elemental dragon like you be studying Moon Pearl? You're keeping it for her, aren't you? Has she broken through?"

"..." Feng Xue's relaxed expression instantly turned grim. Seeing his face darken, Bi Gelei immediately waved her hands:

"No ulterior motive—I'm just asking, do you sell blood? This place has zero good blood to be found. Lucky for me—I'd be dead already if I were any lower in rank."

"Not for sale!" Feng Xue shook his head firmly. Surprisingly, Bi Gelei didn't argue further—she only sighed heavily with disappointment and turned to leave the room.

Watching her dejected figure, Feng Xue suddenly felt a pang of guilt. As Liu Yunxi arrived with dinner, she whispered softly:

"Maybe give her a little? It's just a bit of blood..."

"Don't even think about it!" Feng Xue flinched at Liu Yunxi's whisper, shook his head sharply, and said solemnly:

"Even if it's meant as food, no one knows if this stuff carries bloodline curses or anything like that. Among the vampires I know, some are even contaminated spiritually just by absorbing detached blood—let alone all the spells that use bloodline as a medium! In a world built on mystery, don't just avoid revealing your blood—avoid revealing your true name too, got it?"

"Ah, okay..." Liu Yunxi, surprised by Feng Xue's seriousness, nodded gently and placed the dish on the table:

"Let's eat first."

Bi Gelei left Feng Xue's room, still pouting. As she turned a corner, a somber voice drifted from the air:

"Failed again?"

"Hmph! Didn't I tell you not to hide behind shadows in front of me?" Bi Gelei snorted, clenched her left palm tightly, and yanked a wisp of black mist from the reflection of a wall candle.

"I'm not hiding—my race simply looks like this." Naiwen Mu'en writhed in her palm like a twisted black ribbon, seemingly unfazed by being held. Bi Gelei, accustomed to his attitude, flicked her wrist—and the pulsing shadow slapped against the wall with a wet *plop*.

"Speak. What are you scheming?"

"Something similar to you." Naiwen Mu'en's somber voice delivered a brief reply.

"Oh? So you know what I'm scheming?" Bi Gelei's youthful face broke into a queenly smile. Naiwen Mu'en's body swelled slightly and sighed:

"I'm not bluffing. You've noticed too, haven't you? This newcomer is different from us—he faces far fewer restrictions from this world. You're trying to probe this secret, aren't you?"

"You noticed too?" Bi Gelei finally showed surprise, then immediately spread her arms, sealing the surrounding environment.

"Apart from those two skeletons, only that stupid fish hasn't figured it out yet. I spent five years building a shadow plane here—just barely carved out a crack. I don't know what you're doing, but I'm sure your restrictions aren't fewer than mine. Yet this newcomer completed introducing his abilities in less than a month..."

"Sigh, he's watching too closely! Seriously—should we try seducing him?" Bi Gelei, now certain Naiwen Mu'en shared her thoughts, dropped the act—but just then, footsteps interrupted their conversation.

"Mary? Since when did you develop a habit of eavesdropping?" Bi Gelei frowned. Mary shook her head expressionlessly:

"No, I just happened to be bringing something to Kingdra." Mary lifted the bag in her hand and shook it, then turned to leave—but suddenly twisted her head back and said:

"If you really want to know, why not just ask?"

"If it were that easy, why don't you ask? I don't believe you're not curious!" Bi Gelei rolled her eyes. But Mary, astonishingly, made a movement only a mechanical construct could achieve—rotating her head a full 180 degrees to face Bi Gelei and said:

"I already asked. Kingdra is quite easy to talk to!"

"What??"
