Chapter 300: The Unwanted Holy Avenger

~6 min read 1,090 words

“Waaahhhhhhh…”

“What’s going on?” Feng Xue heard the piercing scream beside his ear; though he had sensed Big Lei ’s approach before the sound reached him, he never expected this embarrassing thing to make such a racket with so many players still around.

Fortunately, the entire Hidden Village was under the effect of a ghostly maze; as soon as he sensed something was off, he immediately ordered Mo Ying to unleash the Wide-Area Ghost Clap, forcibly muffling the sound—otherwise, if players had heard this commotion, what chaos would it have caused?

Wait, where are the players?

Feng Xue’s expression turned strangely uneasy; even though the Redu had dropped, the Hidden Village had long maintained thirty or forty players—but now only a handful remained. It was precisely because of these few players that he was certain this wasn’t some official server maintenance.

“Even if there are only a few players left, you still shouldn’t scream like this!”

Feng Xue grabbed Big Lei —but suddenly realized something was wrong.

He had assumed she wasn’t resisting because she knew she was in the wrong, but now that he held her—

“What’s going on with you?”

“Waaahhhhh! This plane is unclean! Holy Avenger! A Holy Avenger has entered!”

Big Lei ’s shrill wailing was like a child who’d just seen Ju Dou and then watched Ju Dou 2—Feng Xue, however, looked utterly clueless—

“So what exactly is a Holy Avenger?”

“Holy Avenger? Where’s a Holy Avenger?”

Before Big Lei could answer, Mei Luo grew alert—this made Feng Xue feel an odd twist of emotion.

“So you all know about this Holy Avenger? Is it some game mechanic, like a GM?”

“No, ‘Holy Avenger’ is what we call it in my homeland. We sea folk live peacefully in the ocean, but some heroes keep coming to wreck things. The Holy Avenger is the support class that accompanies those heroes—weak on its own, but incredibly annoying. And right now, we’re bound by world rules; if we fought, we’d almost certainly lose.”

Mei Luo spread her hands, her face twisted in frustration; the bat-form Big Lei nodded vigorously:

“Exactly! That’s how it is in my world too—always hanging around heroes, using all kinds of ridiculous divine arts!”

“Sounds a bit like the traditional healer in an adventure party?” Feng Xue’s expression grew peculiar, but Big Lei shook her head:

“Worse than a white mage. How to put it? Imagine you’re at home eating spicy pig’s organs and singing, then suddenly someone bursts in, smashing and looting—that’s the hero’s role. A white mage or any other support class? Their job is just to make the hero smash better and easier.”

“But the Holy Avenger? It’s when you pick up a weapon to beat someone down, and suddenly someone jumps out to stop you, drags the target away, then comes back days later to smash again. And worst of all, most of them can’t be killed—even if you kill them, they auto-resurrect. They’re as low as a frog’s piss.”

“Oh, Cat Car!” Feng Xue ignored Big Lei ’s vampire-style metaphor and immediately visualized it—but this also made him realize a problem—

“You mean in your original worlds, there were always these Holy Avengers? But none have appeared in this world before?”

“At least in all the time I’ve been in this world, I’ve never seen one. Or if I had, she’d already have led a hero to crush the Demon King’s Castle. Even the weakest Holy Avenger I’ve ever encountered could easily defeat me now,” Big Lei said, her tone brimming with irritation.

Feng Xue thought for a moment, then said:

“Let’s return to the Demon King’s Castle and consult the other Demon Kings!”

“I already sent my familiar to notify them. But since you’re closer, I came here in person,” Big Lei flapped her tiny wings seriously.

“Based on my estimate of the Holy Avenger’s power, even all the big shots in the Demon King’s Castle combined probably couldn’t match her. Instead of wasting time uniting the sealed ones, you should hurry and break more seals so I can regain more power. Just three percent—no, even just one percent of my full strength would be enough to handle a Holy Avenger!”

Looking at this tiny bat’s unconvincing words, Feng Xue sighed and turned to Mei Luo, who noticed his gaze and nodded:

“I agree with Big Lei . Instead of wasting time uniting the sealed, we should focus on freeing more high-tier power.”

“Hey, when did you suddenly get smarter?” Big Lei finally noticed Mei Luo’s intellectual shift—but Mei Luo ignored her and resumed casting spells.

Feng Xue, however, was willing to listen. Though he felt his great fortune would protect him, since his fortune hadn’t yet fully formed, he decided to play it safe.

“Little Bell, notify Mary. Tell her about the Holy Avenger—and have her come to the Hidden Village.”

Yes, though Mei Luo and Big Lei both seemed to understand the Holy Avenger well, given their backgrounds, Feng Xue still decided to ask Mary, the puppeteer—who seemed more reliable.

Mary’s response came unexpectedly fast—barely three seconds after Feng Xue sent the message via Little Bell, the Little Bell subunit stationed with Mary (a cyber-enchanted artifact) immediately called back:

“What’s a Holy Avenger?”

“Uh… you don’t know?” Feng Xue was surprised; given Mei Luo and Big Lei ’s knowledge, he’d assumed all the Demon Kings’ original worlds had them.

“No, I’ve never heard that term. Can you describe it in detail? Maybe it’s just a different name.”

Mary’s voice remained calm and serious; paired with her expressionless face, it naturally gave off an air of reliability.

“According to Big Lei and the others, it’s a class that follows heroes, using divine power to rescue them when they’re defeated—or even dead—”

“What? You mean the Heavenly Envoys? How could they appear here?” Mary showed rare signs of shock. Feng Xue’s heart jumped, but he explained:

“Big Lei says she encountered one.”

“Hidden Village? I’m coming right now! Don’t engage them—they’re as disgusting as chewed gum!” Mary snapped the call off. Feng Xue turned to look at Big Lei and Mei Luo, suddenly realizing: this Holy Avenger was truly despised in the Demon King circle!

“Looks like we must accelerate the plan!”

Feng Xue thought to himself. Though techniques like converting Qi into Wish-Power or magical energy into Wish-Power were still unformed, the progress on the Awakening Technique was decent. Thinking of this, he immediately turned to Mei Luo:

“Hurry up and finish my ship!”
