Chapter 1757: Even the Law Enforcement Hall Has to Queue

~7 min read 1,367 words

Watching the crowd in the courtyard scrambling for that bite of food, some people, having just gotten their meal, were pushed by the crowd toward the exit, and by the time they reached the exit, their full bowl of rice was already finished.

There's something wrong with this food; I must taste it myself.

Thinking this, the Grand Elder strode toward the middle of the courtyard, so much so that he didn't even have time to look after the Fifth Elder beside him.

But he was at the exit, going against the flow of people, and after just a few steps he couldn't move any further.

Blocked by the crowd, the Grand Elder shouted angrily.

"Make way, the Law Enforcement Hall is on duty."

"Grand Elder, even the Law Enforcement Hall has to wait in line."

Huh???

However, this time the Grand Elder's angry shout had absolutely no effect; the crowd ahead simply had no room to make way.

Even some clanspeople shouted back, craning their necks; hearing this, the Grand Elder froze for a moment, then was shoved out by the crowd.

Watching the distance to the courtyard grow ever greater, the Grand Elder's face turned completely dark.

Damn it, there's not a shred of propriety left.

"What are you doing? Is there any rule left? The Law Enforcement Hall is on duty."

"Grand Elder, it's not that we don't want to make way; we simply can't."

"By the way, Grand Elder, what are you trying to do?"

The clanspeople were also helpless; they weren't unwilling to make way, they just had nowhere to do so—people were everywhere.

Someone even curiously asked, "Why does the Law Enforcement Hall come to this bird-shit-free Island No. 78 instead of going elsewhere?"

"What's there to enforce here?" Faced with the inquiry, the Grand Elder didn't think much and replied.

"There's something wrong with this food; I, the old man, must taste it myself."

Huh???

Originally still wondering what the Grand Elder, who oversees the Law Enforcement Hall, intended to do, upon hearing this the faces of all the clanspeople changed.

You've been going on and on—are you just here to eat too? And you still expect us to make way?

"This rule was set personally by Young Master Ye, and even the Three Ancestors acknowledge it—do you really think you, Grand Elder, can surpass the Three Ancestors?"

In an instant, the gazes of all the clanspeople toward the Grand Elder shifted.

"Grand Elder, the rule was set by the Three Ancestors; to eat you must wait in line."

"Exactly, this is the exit; if the Grand Elder wants to eat, he must line up from the entrance."

"Even the Law Enforcement Hall must obey the rules of Island No. 78."

Huh???

The clanspeople had completely lost their former respect, and some even spoke with impatient faces.

Faced with the crowd's chatter, the Grand Elder furrowed his brows tightly together.

But the crowd now couldn't care less whether you're the Law Enforcement Hall or not; since the Three Ancestors have spoken, your Law Enforcement Hall is useless here.

"I just want to taste this food."

"Whether you taste it or not, if you want to eat you have to go line up."

"Is there any rule left?"

"The rules of Island No. 78 were set by the Three Ancestors; Grand Elder, your Law Enforcement Hall's rules don't work here."

The clanspeople gave the Grand Elder no face at all; while talking, they shoved him far out of the crowd.

Left with no choice, the Grand Elder could only slink over to the very front of the line—namely, on the waves—and obediently queue up.

Gazing at the sea of black heads, the Grand Elder's face darkened; "Damn it, I'm a grand elder, and I still have to queue for a meal?"

But there's nothing to be done; once it's said it's the Three Ancestors' rule, the Grand Elder has no recourse.

He simply followed the line obediently.

Before, he didn't believe the line could stretch out onto the sea; now, following it, the Grand Elder is filled with mixed feelings.

Who knows how long passed, but the sky eventually turned completely dark, and after much effort, following the line he reached the courtyard gate.

Seeing that it was already deep night, yet the small courtyard was still teeming with heads, the Grand Elder's heart brimmed with curiosity.

"What sorcery is in this food? Damn it, it makes people wait so long just to get a bite."

Moreover, after waiting several Shíchén, the end result was that a bowl of rice was finished in just a few mouthfuls.

With that time, you could go to Immortal City, find a restaurant, and take it slow—how nice would that be?

Carrying a heart full of doubt, the Grand Elder finally followed the crowd into the courtyard.

On his first visit to eat, the Grand Elder didn't even bring chopsticks and a bowl.

Watching as people arrived before the food and each took out their own chopsticks, the Grand Elder's eyes widened.

"Damn, we even have to bring our own chopsticks?"

"Grand Elder, what are you standing there for? Go get your meal."

Seeing the Grand Elder frozen in place with no movement, the clanspeople behind couldn't help but urge him on.

Hearing this, the Grand Elder replied with a complex tone.

"I didn't bring chopsticks."

"You eat without bringing chopsticks?"

Upon hearing this, the clanspeople behind him actually responded with a puzzled face, asking back.

Huh???

Faced with such questioning, the Grand Elder went numb; "Damn, do you have to bring chopsticks to eat? I've lived so many years—when I've eaten at restaurants in Immortal City, have I ever brought chopsticks?"

"Have you ever brought chopsticks when eating at a restaurant?"

"The problem is this isn't Immortal City's restaurant; you definitely need to bring chopsticks here."

Huh??

Upon hearing this, the Grand Elder felt something was off, but couldn't say what.

Just then, angry scolding came from the crowd.

"What are you doing up front? Hurry up and leave after getting your meal!"

"Yeah, you think this is a banquet? Get your meal and scram!"

Those behind grew impatient, shouting angrily; many had been waiting several Shíchén and were already starving.

The food is right before you, and now you're just standing still—this is pure nonsense.

As the angry shouts rose and fell, the Grand Elder's face darkened, and several Guo family members behind him also spoke up.

"Grand Elder, why not go back and get your utensils before coming again?"

"What did you say?"

Hearing this, the Grand Elder's face instantly darkened and he shouted angrily.

"I've waited several Shíchén, and you want me to go back for utensils now?"

"There's nothing we can do."

"What about the time I've wasted?"

Never would I have thought that one day getting a meal could be this troublesome—after waiting several Shíchén, it's my turn, yet I don't have utensils and have to go back?

"Why don't you step aside, Grand Elder, think of a solution, and let us get our meals first?"

Seeing the anger rising in the Grand Elder's eyes, a Guo family member proposed.

After hearing that, the Grand Elder thought it over; realizing it wasn't right to keep blocking the way, he decided to let those who had brought utensils go ahead and get their meals first, while he stood aside to think of a solution.

Thinking this, the Grand Elder shifted his feet slightly to the side.

Thinking that he had already waited his turn, standing aside to think of a plan, getting his meal later wouldn't be a hassle, or he could wait for others to finish and borrow their utensils.

But just as the Grand Elder took a few steps, the next second he felt as if he had fallen into a rushing river.

Those who had gotten their meal and were heading toward the exit immediately pushed the Grand Elder forward, just as before, toward the exit.

Before he could react, the Grand Elder saw he had been shoved several meters away, and the food-serving spot that had been right before his eyes was now several meters distant.
