Chapter 100: These Top Officials Are Beyond Saving

~7 min read 1,307 words

Li Gui believed herself cautious, found no flaws, and evaded the Transcendents, unaware that she had been exposed from the start.

The six-eyed demon, also known as Sankai, caused chaos in Higashi-Ogikubo; the system provided a script, and Kamikawa Mitsu learned from the villainous details about Sankai that he had not come to Japan alone but with companions.

The system did not provide information on Li Gui, but that did not stop Kamikawa Mitsu from investigating.

He spent script points to obtain Li Gui’s information and monitored her every move in real time.

“You’re still useful— I won’t kill you for now.”

Kamikawa Mitsu glanced at the calendar on the desk by the window and murmured softly.

“Winter break is coming soon; I’ve saved up a good amount from the convenience store boss’s wages. Maybe I should take Chi-e on a trip during the break? I remember she really wanted to go somewhere…”

Tokyo, Japan, Transcendent Response Division.

“What are your thoughts?” Director Takahashi surveyed everyone in the room.

The screen had just finished playing the latest video from “The Fallen King”—“Archive—Higashi-Ogikubo.” Like previous videos, this one featured a unique shooting angle: close-up during the six-eyed demon incident, then seamlessly cut to the Void Demon Realm during the Buddha Palm’s World Annihilation.

The truth was, Director Takahashi and his team could not enter the Void Demon Realm; they had watched the World Annihilation from outside the shattered space. Now, watching the video, they saw the destruction across the Void Demon Realm and witnessed the terrifying giants—like the Lord of the Demon Palace—expressing sheer terror.

Shot from the perspective of the Void Demon Realm, it captured the chaos of all beings during its annihilation; from the viewpoint of its mighty figures, it showed just how horrifying the end of the world truly was—even the strongest trembled.

Director Takahashi and the others were stunned, truly understanding, feeling firsthand, just how terrifying World Annihilation was—the heavens overturned, the world ended.

“Regarding the investigation of The Fallen King, I recommend a gentle approach to avoid provoking his resentment.”

Minister Saito spoke.

Through this video, he was utterly certain: The Fallen King was definitely a Transcendent, and his power was certainly immense—he could annihilate a world and still have the leisure to film, could film calmly without being disturbed by Master Kūkai and others, proving his power was beyond reckoning.

“I second that.”

“I second that.”

The senior officers of the Transcendent Response Division agreed.

The Fallen King could even know about the Diet and annihilate worlds while filming; all signs indicated how terrifying his abilities were. They feared that any aggressive investigation might provoke him—and if he grew resentful, killing them would be as easy as breathing, and utterly silent.

Suzuki Kū looked at the empty corner behind him, pitch-black, his spine prickling with dread—he kept feeling a hand might suddenly reach out from the space behind him and tear out his heart.

At that moment, a senior officer asked:

“By the way, I recall we held a meeting about The Fallen King and decided to monitor Kamikawa Mitsu regarding NH137, suspecting he might be connected to The Fallen King?”

Everyone froze, turning to stare.

The officer continued: “How do you plan to monitor him? I suggest using surveillance cameras only—no human agents—and keep the monitoring period short. A week of camera footage should be enough to spot something—if you find evidence, that’s sufficient; no need for long-term surveillance.

You know Transcendents aren’t ordinary people; their psychology can’t be judged by normal standards. The Fallen King… watching his videos, I noticed he films very casually, very randomly.

For example, the second video included the Diet, but the third did not. For this Higashi-Ogikubo incident, the Prime Minister and others held a meeting—but the third video didn’t edit in that meeting, making The Fallen King’s mindset impossible to fathom.

I say all this because what if—just what if—The Fallen King is capricious, discovers we’re monitoring Kamikawa Mitsu, and Kamikawa Mitsu is indeed connected to him? Would he not fly into a rage and punish us?”

“Also, even if Kamikawa Mitsu has no connection to The Fallen King, could The Fallen King still blame us? Might he think that because of himself, we’re dragging ordinary people into this, seeing us as utterly indifferent to civilians, only caring about our own interests—and then lash out?”

Everyone fell silent.

At that moment, the senior officer spoke again.

“Moreover, I feel The Fallen King’s status among Transcendents is not ordinary.”

He glanced around like a thief, then lowered his voice drastically.

Everyone instinctively leaned forward, straining to listen.

“Have you noticed? Since The Fallen King released his first video, the Yunhu incident erupted. Shortly after, the Higashi-Ogikubo incident broke out—and Transcendents appeared.”

Pupils shrank sharply.

Director Takahashi and the others pondered—it was indeed true.

The senior officer continued:

“If we trace all cases involving Transcendents and demons, the earliest appearance of a Transcendent wasn’t during Yunhu—it was The Fallen King. Because the man who filmed NH137 was a Transcendent. Once you realize that, you should have noticed: from the NH137 incident onward, Transcendents and demons began surfacing.”

By now, even the slowest among Director Takahashi’s team understood.

The Fallen King was the origin point of Transcendents—the first case!

“Could NH137 not have been an accident? Could it have been a Transcendent incident? But wasn’t it a plane crash…? Ssshh!! Crows!! It was crows!”

Professor Nakata, the consultant, turned pale and gasped.

The next moment:

Before Director Takahashi and the others could ask, Professor Nakata spoke first:

“Crows—there are Transcendents who command crows to crash planes. Don’t you remember? In the ‘Archive—Higashi-Ogikubo’ video, what ate Sakurada Fumitosuke? A group of crow-headed, human-bodied demons—these are Karasu Tengu, a type of Tengu demon.

They possess the ability to command crows!

Also, everyone here knows about the Yunhu incident: the earthquake wasn’t necessarily natural—it could have been caused by demons. And… Director Takahashi, isn’t this year the most frequent earthquake year in recorded history?”

Director Takahashi froze, with no time to consider anything else, he replied bluntly: “Yes, this year has seen the most earthquakes ever. Wait—you’re suggesting—”

Professor Nakata nodded.

“Exactly. I’m suggesting the possibility that a Karasu Tengu, flying in the demon world’s sky, accidentally caused crows in our world’s sky to fly erratically, leading to the plane crash.”

At that moment:

Everyone’s spirits trembled—they felt they had uncovered a monumental discovery!

“The Fallen King’s three videos—the latter two clearly involve Transcendents, obviously targeting them. But the first video had nothing to do with Transcendents. If he only films bizarre events, why didn’t he film other bizarre incidents? I remember that although rare, bizarre events weren’t nonexistent over the years—yet he only began filming this year, and specifically NH137.

Most importantly, this year is abnormal. Forget earthquakes—after NH137, Transcendents started appearing, one after another.”

As soon as the senior officer finished, Mori Tian Takeshi spoke up sharply:

“I get it—it’s the earthquakes! No, it’s the abnormal surge of earthquakes this year. If I recall correctly, NH137 was the first bizarre incident of the year. The Fallen King never made videos before, only started this year. Could it be connected to the surge in earthquakes? After all, earthquakes aren’t necessarily natural—they might be linked to demons from the demon world…”

With Mori Tian Takeshi’s words, everyone’s scalp prickled, and a single image flashed in every mind.

In the image: twilight sky, fading crimson light.

This was the demon world!

Then, within the image, demons that had long lain dormant suddenly broke their stillness—moving, rushing, triggered by some unknown cause, causing earthquakes in the real world, leading to the surge in seismic activity.

Director Takahashi leapt to his feet, exclaiming:

“The demons have broken their usual silence—causing Japan’s frequent earthquakes! The Transcendents must be undertaking some massive action!”
