Chapter 158: What on Earth Is Wrong With the Earth Now!

~8 min read 1,440 words

Beimeizhou, the United States.

The United States was now boiling just like the other Beimeizhou nations, but with one difference — because they knew of the gods' return, at this very moment online discussions in the U. S. about the gods' return and Indian gods' revenge had reached their peak, sweeping across the U. S. internet like a raging storm.

The United States, the White House.

Achuan, still pondering his aide's words, had no time to think before he saw it — a pillar of light shooting into the distant sky outside the window.

The pillar of light was so immense, emitting a rumbling divine sound.

Achuan leapt up from his chair in an instant, so startled that he accidentally gripped too hard and snapped the cross necklace in his hand.

"This…"

Gazing at the awe-inspiring divine might, the pillar of light towering like a mountain, overwhelming to both sight and spirit, Achuan's heart pounded wildly, a bad premonition rising in his chest.

At that moment, his aide, having just finished a sudden phone call, wore a face of shock:

"Bad news — every state in the U. S. just reported that exhibits at the Washington Museum of the American Indian have undergone anomalous changes."

The moment the words left his mouth, Achuan's breath froze; he whipped his head toward the pillar of light shooting into the distant sky outside the White House window.

The direction of the pillar of light…

Wasn't that exactly the direction of Washington?!!!

Achuan swallowed hard, sweat beading at his temples, and with a trembling finger pointed at the pillar of light outside the window:

"Th-that… wouldn't happen to be… the Washington anomaly, would it?"

The Indian museum, the pillar of light, the faintly rumbling divine sound — all of it conjured in Achuan's mind the very guess he least wished to make.

"Yes, that is the anomaly at the museum, and it's not just that — ancient ruins in other U. S. states have all shown corresponding anomalies."

As he spoke, the aide's phone rang again.

The aide, upon answering, turned even paler than before, his expression more alarmed, and hurriedly reported to Achuan.

"It's not just the ancient ruins of our U. S. — ancient ruins across every country in all of Beimeizhou have shown anomalies!"

"What did you say?!"

Achuan could no longer maintain his composure; at top speed he dashed out of the office and out of the White House.

"This—" Achuan looked up at the sky in all four directions, his eyes went blank, and he stood dumbfounded on the spot.

Standing on the lawn outside the U. S. White House, he could see in the distant sky to the east, south, west, and north one pillar of light after another shooting skyward — like massive pillars propping up heaven and earth, towering on the distant lands, holding up the sky and the ground.

The sight before him horrified Achuan; his legs went weak, and had his aide not caught him in time, he might have collapsed onto the lawn like a heap of mud, utterly without the dignity of a great man.

The ancient Indian ruins were reviving, the divine totems erupting with eternal divine light — no matter how foolish or unwilling to believe, Achuan knew his worst premonition had come true.

"The Indian gods are going to return…"

Staring at the cluster of heaven-supporting pillars standing in the four distant directions, Achuan felt a chill pierce straight to the bone, cold climbing from his feet to his head and bursting out through the crown of his skull.

With such momentum, such might — if anyone told him there was only one Indian god, or that the Indian gods were weak, he would never believe it.

Achuan trembled, looked at the broken cross gripped tightly in his hand, then looked again at the pillars of light shooting skyward in all four directions.

He fell silent.

The Indian gods are freaking terrifying — will God really protect us? Can he even handle it all?

Never in his life had he felt such regret; Achuan desperately wished he could switch to a faith with fewer followers, but it seemed too late — the Indian gods were about to return.

"God bless us! Amen! Amen!"

Achuan kept making the sign of the cross over his chest, clutching the broken cross in his hands; in over seventy years of life, he had never felt such panic.

At this moment.

It wasn't only Achuan who was panicking — the U. S. leadership and the American people were too.

Many American netizens were buying outbound flight tickets — any outbound ticket, whether to Switzerland, Italy, Africa, or even Iraq, they bought them all.

"Facing a hail of bullets in the Middle East is still better than staying in the U. S. and enduring the gods' wrath."

One American netizen reacted a beat too late; by the time he tried to buy an outbound ticket, all the ones he wanted were gone, leaving only the Iraq flights — but even so, he bought the ticket.

Don't joke around — if he didn't buy now, in a while there probably wouldn't even be tickets left.

You have to understand, the U. S. has plenty of passenger planes, sure, but no matter how many seats there are, they can't fit all the Americans — only a tiny fraction managed to buy tickets.

As for the vast majority who couldn't buy tickets, what were they to do?

Wait to die? Impossible — the survival instinct of a creature like humans is strong.

Sure enough, those Americans who couldn't get tickets rushed out of their homes, some driving, some running, heading toward the nearest church.

"Father! I want to join Christianity — please baptize my child with holy water right now!" One quick-witted American netizen, clutching his child, sought baptism from the priest.

Christianity holds that when a child is baptized with holy water, it represents the cleansing of the soul and also signifies God's protection over you.

Because of this, an unprecedented scene unfolded across the United States.

Tens of thousands of people flooded into churches all over the U. S., wearing out the doorsteps, begging to join Christianity.

Clearly, they thought the same as Achuan and the others — the Indian gods truly exist and are about to return; faced with this unchangeable fact, they needed a backer, needed protection, and joining Christianity to receive God's protection was the best decision available right now.

On this day, the number of Christians in the United States reached an all-time high, breaking every previous record.

On this day, from the moment the pillars of light appeared, U. S. priests had been continuously baptizing child after child with holy water, their hands swollen from soaking in water — for the first time they felt being a priest was a grueling job, yet one they had no choice but to do.

Because if they didn't, they'd be done for.

Outside Earth, the U. S. space station.

Being in space, not in Beimeizhou, didn't mean the astronauts weren't panicking — in fact, they were even more panicked.

They were in space — if a god flared up in anger and blew up the space station, they wouldn't even have anywhere to run; the worst part was dying in space, the corpse drifting through the universe, unable to return to Earth — truly dying in a foreign land.

So without any need for discussion or vote, the astronauts unanimously agreed to convert to Christianity first.

No cross? No problem — just tie two pens into a cross as a crucifix, or simply draw a cross on the chest.

Compared to the U. S. space station astronauts panicking out of their minds, astronauts on other space stations were more curious and excited than joyful.

Crack.

A Russian astronaut, holding a camera, photographed the magnificent scene of Earth impaled by a pillar of light like the Heaven-Splitting Great Spear.

"Hurry up and take the shot — who knows, this picture might become a historic photograph, and once it spreads, I'll be famous, hahaha."

Apparently feeling one shot wasn't enough.

He picked up the camera again, ready to take another ten or so shots, capturing the most magnificent and best angle.

Seeing this, the other astronauts refused to fall behind, one after another grabbing their cameras to photograph this scene worthy of being recorded in the annals of history.

"Oh my god, are you guys still taking pictures? Look over there!"

One astronaut suddenly roared in shock, gesturing frantically.

Everyone looked over in unison, their pupils dilating sharply.

"Hiss!"

"Heavens!"

"What on earth is happening to Earth now!"
