Chapter 180: Don't Provoke a Man Who Has Nothing to Lose
The world fell silent.
The onlookers were dumbfounded.
If not for the fact that the Feathered Serpent God's voice rumbled on, calm in tone, without a shred of mercy, they would truly have thought the Feathered Serpent God was trying to persuade God. But that wasn't the point. The point was that the Feathered Serpent God's words were clearly the very ones God had said to him earlier.
He answered God with God's own words of mercy.
For a moment, the priests, the cardinals, and the Pope flushed red in the face, deeply indignant.
"F*ck! The Feathered Serpent God is too hateful, actually mimicking God's speech!" a priest couldn't help but curse.
A cardinal gritted his teeth: "The Feathered Serpent God has gone too far. He smashed up Heaven and still wants God to stay calm—doesn't that mean the same as tearing down someone's house and then telling the homeowner to stay calm? He's deliberately trying to anger God. He's too hateful. He should go to hell!"
"The Feathered Serpent God is shameless! Taking God's well-meant words of persuasion to mock God—wasting all the mercy God showed him, wanting only to suppress him rather than kill him. This is biting the hand that feeds you! I curse him to hell!"
The faithful were filled with righteous fury.
Before the denunciation had gone on long, a cold laugh rang out from the crowd.
"You all know the Feathered Serpent God is tearing down someone's house and telling the homeowner to stay calm. But have you thought about it—didn't God do the same thing earlier? The Feathered Serpent God's faithful were slaughtered, his temple of worship was destroyed, and didn't God also tell the Feathered Serpent God to stay calm?"
When the words rang out, the whole scene fell silent in an instant. The denunciation cut off short, and the faithful each looked as if their throats had been seized, unable to speak.
The next moment.
"What of it? When God said those things to the Feathered Serpent God, it was mercy, but when the Feathered Serpent God does the same, it doesn't count? I don't see any difference—both had their homes smashed and wanted to vent, and someone came to tell them to stay calm."
"Is your Christianity this double-standard?"
Tongue-tied, the faithful twitched their cheeks, and for a moment no one could rebut.
It wasn't that they didn't want to rebut—they just didn't know what to rebut with, because they felt what you all said was f*cking reasonable…
Like a stone thrown into a lake, the effect spread out of control.
Voices of dissent rose from all over the world.
"The Feathered Serpent God wants to kill people, and just because the ones being killed are God's faithful, God won't allow it and opens his mouth to persuade. Then aren't the Feathered Serpent God's faithful also living beings? He wants to avenge his people—what's wrong with that? God is just being a f*cking hypocrite, only allowing the magistrate to set fire while forbidding the common folk to light a lamp."
Faced with this rebuttal, the faithful lowered their banners and silenced their drums; the flames of their anger were more than half extinguished.
In Heaven, the great battle between the two mythological deities continued.
God did not respond to the Feathered Serpent God, but his face grew uglier with every word the Feathered Serpent God spoke, his eyes nearly spewing fire.
Seeing this, the world knew God had been thoroughly enraged.
On reflection, it made sense—even an old good-natured sort, even a hypocrite, who had always stood high above, worshipped by the world, suddenly suffering such unprecedented humiliation, and the key was it was in front of the entire globe, having his own tactics used against him. Even God would go mad.
One could see God very much wanted to drag the Feathered Serpent God out of Heaven—after all, if the fighting continued, Heaven would be smashed to pieces.
The Feathered Serpent God was unmoved. As long as God retreated out of Heaven, he simply didn't pursue, turning instead to destroy Heaven, forcing God to roar again and again and counterattack to stop him.
The scene was eerily familiar—it had happened not long ago, when God only defended and did not attack, and the Feathered Serpent God could do nothing about it.
Now the positions of the two sides were reversed.
The Feathered Serpent God only attacked but did not pursue, and God had no way to deal with it.
Only, in the previous situation, the Feathered Serpent God could reverse things by destroying God's "home," but God couldn't—the Feathered Serpent God's "home" had been gone for over a thousand years, and his people were nearly all dead.
This seemed to confirm that old saying.
Never provoke a man who has nothing left to lose—when such a person goes ruthless, he has nothing to hold him back, since he has nothing anyway.
"Feathered Serpent God!! You…"
God's fury blazed, the Sword of God in his hand creaking in his grip, as he charged at the Feathered Serpent God.
Faced with this difficult situation, there was only one way to resolve it: hold the Feathered Serpent God back, stop him from destroying Heaven, and drag things out until the Feathered Serpent God's divine power was exhausted.
Once the Feathered Serpent God's divine power was exhausted, God would win.
God was very powerful. If the Feathered Serpent God did not burn his divine power to restore his peak, relying on his wounded body alone he could not defeat God.
The world saw this point too, eyes unblinking, staring intently, hearts in their throats.
The true life-and-death battle had arrived.
Would the Feathered Serpent God's divine power run out first, or would he kill God before his divine power was exhausted?
The faithful believed victory belonged to God, because the Feathered Serpent God was wounded and could only match God by burning divine power to maintain his peak, whereas God did not need to burn divine power—only needed to exhaust the Feathered Serpent God's.
But very quickly, that notion changed.
BOOM!!
Divine power surged, its ferocious might piercing through the heavens.
The Feathered Serpent God was pressing God in the fight, several times driving God into dire peril. If God had not escaped at the cost of taking injuries, he would likely have perished.
The priests, cardinals, and Pope trembled, suddenly remembering—the Feathered Serpent God was not God. He was a deity who had fought his way out of the Original Battlefield, his combat power staggering, unlike God, who had only dared to fight at the edges of the Original Battlefield.
There was a very clear gap in combat power between the two.
"Puh!"
His massive body lashed, the serpent tail whipping, conjuring up mountains of corpses and seas of blood, shaking heaven and earth with thunderous roars. God was struck by the tail and vomited a great mouthful of blood.
Then, with a heaven-shaking crash, God plummeted from the sky and smashed into the Holy Mountain.
The Holy Mountain collapsed, the earth split open with lightning-like ravines and fissures spreading for ten thousand miles, endless dust rising into the air.
The holy light on God's body dimmed, his chest stained with blood, looking as wretched as a beggar, stripped of his former majesty.
Perhaps driven by life-and-death crisis, or beaten into towering rage, God howled amid the ruined Heaven, burning his divine power in exchange for combat power beyond his peak, and for a time was no longer driven into peril.
As for the Feathered Serpent God, the fatal wound on his chest, as time went on, split wider and wider.
Burning divine power let his combat power climb, restoring him to his peak, but the fighting aggravated his injuries, blood flowing without stop, the wounds growing heavier and heavier. If not for the resilient will, far surpassing other deities, that he had tempered on the Original Battlefield, he would likely have fallen.
Later on, with every clash, the Feathered Serpent God was coughing blood.
It wasn't damage God inflicted on him—his wounds were simply too severe. Although divine power kept his combat power at its peak, his body could not withstand him squandering peak-level combat power.
What a pity—if the Feathered Serpent God had not been wounded, even if God burned divine power and exceeded his peak, the Feathered Serpent God could still have suppressed him, and killing him would only have been a matter of time.
But in this world, there are no "ifs."
After once again beating God to the point of vomiting blood—so close that just one final strike would have killed him—the Feathered Serpent God's body could no longer sustain his wounds, he could no longer bring forth his peak combat power, and at this moment his divine power was no longer abundant, nearly at its end.
The scales of victory tilted madly toward God.
At this moment God also raised the Sword of God in his hand, unleashing an unparalleled, eternal holy radiance.
Holy light eternal, radiance ten thousand zhang.
This was an utterly terrifying divine technique—the radiance tore open the void, stirred the heavens and earth of Paradise, pierced straight through, like a golden lightning bolt falling against the natural order of heaven and earth, as if the world would be re-created by this single sword.
With a puff, God thrust into the fatal wound on the Feathered Serpent God's chest.
