Chapter 215: Something from Nothing

~9 min read 1,721 words

Hearing this, the Ambusher's face twitched wildly, his heart leaping into his throat.

At this moment he had absolutely no mood to care about the severe wounds bleeding nonstop and imminent death; he was uneasy, half-hoping Kamikawa Mitsu would go fetch some kind of captive-breeding artifact to verify, to prove he wasn't a pig-pig, yet also afraid Kamikawa Mitsu would actually go fetch the captive-breeding artifact to verify — god knew whether it might actually turn out to be true.

What if the verification proved he was a pig-pig? He couldn't accept that.

At this moment, Likui and Mo Lingling beside him, who had been silent all along, finally couldn't contain their curiosity and spoke up to ask:

"Captive-breeding artifact? How does the verification work?"

Seeing this, Kamikawa Mitsu responded.

"Actually, every transcendent noble house has a captive-bred world, and to prevent that captive-bred world from being seized — with the other party refusing to admit it dead and trying to claim it for themselves — and also to prevent captive-bred beings from escaping and slipping into other worlds to cause havoc where they can't be found,

every household's transcendent world plants a brand upon the bloodline of its captive-bred beings. This brand is carried within the bloodline, and only a special artifact can reveal it — that artifact is the captive-breeding artifact.

My family's captive-breeding artifact is a mirror; any captive-bred being, once reflected in it, will have a special symbol appear on their head.

And if it's shone on blood, the symbol will appear too."

Listening to Kamikawa Mitsu speak so logically and eloquently, the Ambusher gradually shifted from half-belief to slowly believing.

The man had said this much — it probably wasn't something made up out of thin air.

"Forget it, this guy's too badly wounded. If I go home to fetch the captive-breeding artifact and come back, he'll probably be dead already." Kamikawa Mitsu shook his head: "Right now the urgent matter isn't verifying whether the being that invaded your world is from the Spirit-Hope Realm — the main thing is still dealing with the invasion."

Saying so, Kamikawa Mitsu raised his hand.

"I'll draw some blood to preserve, and once things are settled, I'll take it home to verify."

Giving the Ambusher no chance at all, a palm came down and smashed his skull apart.

The Ambusher's pupils remained wide and staring until death.

Am I freaking a pig-pig or not? Screw your mother — you were messing with my head until the very end, weren't you? I die with regrets!

After this, Likui and Mo Lingling watched Kamikawa Mitsu collecting blood, exchanging glances.

After a slight hesitation, Likui still asked aloud.

"Kamikawa-san, were what you just said true?"

Just like the Ambusher, they too were half-believing, half-doubting. At first they'd both thought Kamikawa Mitsu was just teasing and humiliating the other party, but now… the other party was thoroughly dead, and Kamikawa Mitsu was still collecting blood.

The man was already dead — was there any need to keep putting on an act in front of him? No need.

So by that logic, Kamikawa Mitsu truly did think the other party was captive-bred, from the Spirit-Hope Realm.

"It's true." Kamikawa Mitsu finished collecting the blood, then said:

"I really do think the other party looks like one from the Spirit-Hope Realm. Although not entirely like it, there are similarities — I think probably a Spirit-Hope Realm being invaded your Void Demon Realm's world and bred with the beings of that world, producing a mixed-blood. Setting that aside, let's hurry and go."

"Mm."

Mo Lingling and Likui nodded. The other party had said this much — it had to be true. Besides, apart from them there were no outsiders here; Kamikawa Mitsu had no reason to lie to his own people.

They didn't notice that before leaving, Kamikawa Mitsu cast a casual, untraceable glance toward the forest beside the nearby Shishan.

After Kamikawa Mitsu and the others had departed, and several more hours had passed.

Only then did that stretch of forest ripple like water, space undulating, and three beings revealed themselves.

They were the Ambusher's companions — beings who had invaded the Void Demon Realm's world.

The three beings revealed themselves in an odd, heavy silence, faces strange and uncanny, as if everything they'd experienced today was more spectacular than their entire lives combined.

After a long while.

Finally, one of the three beings spoke.

"Was what that being said true? Could it be that he was deliberately acting for our benefit?"

The other two beings fell silent, seemingly not agreeing with this being's words.

"He didn't even detect us — how could it be an act for our benefit? Fighting wits with empty air? And it's not like he could have detected us either." one being said.

Another being took out a glowing treasure pearl and chimed in.

"This is a concealment treasure pearl dug out from ancient ruins of another realm. Relying on this concealment treasure pearl's hiding effect, let alone beings at the King level, even beings far above the King level couldn't detect us — that being couldn't possibly have detected us."

Inevitably, the three beings fell silent once more.

Not being an act for their benefit didn't necessarily mean what the other party said was true…

Meanwhile.

On the road heading toward the Demon God Temple, Kamikawa Mitsu muttered to himself.

The beings invading the Void Demon Realm's world were cunning and treacherous enough to pull a double ambush. If I hadn't, after encountering the ambush, ensured my safety by deliberately spending script points to have the system scan the surroundings for additional ambushers, I wouldn't have been able to detect them.

In fact, just as the three beings guessed, Kamikawa Mitsu hadn't detected them — though only at first.

Because they had miscalculated one thing: they had the concealment treasure pearl as their cheat, and so did Kamikawa Mitsu.

And as the first of the three beings had thought, Kamikawa Mitsu was indeed acting for their benefit — what he wanted was to keep expanding the other realm's perception of the Initial Realm.

As time goes on, more and more other-realm passages will connect to Earth.

The dangers Earth faces are precarious and critical.

For this reason, Kamikawa Mitsu had long since made his decision — to stop the invasion and destruction of the Ten Thousand Realms!

No!

Not just to stop the invasion and destruction of the Ten Thousand Realms — but to make all Ten Thousand Realms revere our Earth world!!

So Kamikawa Mitsu kept unfolding script after script step by step, executing his plan. Of course, what Kamikawa Mitsu said today was a spur-of-the-moment idea — who could blame him, the other party had handed him a free "information messenger." If there's a free show to put on, why not?

Besides, even if the other party didn't believe it, what of it? Messing with their state of mind for a moment was also quite wonderful.

"Kamikawa-san, is the Spirit-Hope Realm very big?"

On the way to the Demon God Temple, Likui, having nothing to do, asked curiously.

"I don't know how big, because I've never been to the Spirit-Hope Realm."

"Huh? Never been?"

"Yeah, never been. The reason I know about the Spirit-Hope Realm is that I've seen beings from the Spirit-Hope Realm in my main family's world."

Kamikawa Mitsu said, his face flushed but his breathing steady, without the slightest fear that his lie would be exposed, simply because he had the confidence to back it up.

Because the Spirit Realm was not something Kamikawa Mitsu had made up out of thin air; the Spirit Realm truly existed.

As for how he came to know of a world called the Spirit Realm, it was because a moment ago Kamikawa Mitsu had spent script points, having the system pick out a few worlds whose inhabitants looked roughly similar to the Slaying Beings and shared roughly similar bloodlines.

The system then listed several worlds, and he casually picked the one called the Spirit Realm from among them and told the Slaying Beings about it.

One could say that within Kamikawa Mitsu's words, truth and falsehood were mixed half and half.

Therefore he was not afraid of his lie being exposed—after all, the Spirit Realm truly existed, and its inhabitants really did look very much like the Slaying Beings. He was even less afraid that one day in the future, when realms were connected, the beings of the world that had invaded the Void Demon Realm would go looking for the Spirit Realm.

Let them find it if they do.

As was said long before, no matter the world, when history is traced back to the distant past it is bound to be blurry. With history so long, and with all manner of great events occurring through the ages, how could history possibly be preserved perfectly? The Spirit Realm was certainly no exception.

And on top of history being blurry, much of it ends up looking roughly the same—either endless slaughter, or populations flowing here and there, or other circumstances.

It's entirely possible that the beings of the world that invaded the Void Demon Realm, upon finding the Spirit Realm and comparing their blurry histories, would discover the similarities buried in the haze and come to acknowledge a shared ancestry.

Of course, Kamikawa Mitsu was also not afraid that the Spirit Realm would suspect anything about how they could possibly be beings of a world that had been raised as livestock to feed pets.

Don't be ridiculous—on Earth, every single day people are born, people die, and people go missing; who could keep track of every single person's movements? Let alone in other realms where survival is brutal, where surely every day beings die or vanish, and no one could possibly investigate the final fate of every being.

So even if Kamikawa Mitsu did not go patch things up, the beings of the Spirit Realm would patch things up on their own.

Things like "the old man in the village next to mine disappeared," or "so-and-so from the neighboring town vanished more than ten years ago and was never seen again"—surely they were taken by the livestock-raisers to feed war beasts, right?
