Chapter 410: The Supreme God of Ancient Babylonian Mythology
The Demon Lord and the gathered gods, demons, immortals, and devils all startled.
The iron chains thundered, erupting with two sounds like colliding heavens and earth. Any god, demon, immortal, or devil who had survived long enough to reach this place was undeniably powerful, yet with a single thrash of the colossal corpse, the chains swung and their divine souls were shattered on the spot.
They didn't even have time to scream.
The gods, demons, immortals, and devils who survived weren't in much better shape—blood streaming from their seven orifices, their appearances utterly wretched.
They gazed at the colossal corpse in terror, their courage failing; if not for the chance encounter, they would have fled long ago, unable to endure even a single second longer.
"Immortal? No—at the very least, a supreme existence."
No one knew who spoke, but the gods, demons, immortals, and devils fell silent.
Time seemed to freeze at that moment, so quiet they could hear their own heartbeats. They looked up at the colossal corpse, wondering which deity from ancient Babylonian mythology it might be.
The Demon Lord, the Void Lord, and the like need not be mentioned—having been connected to Earth for so long, they could hardly have failed to study the great mythologies of the primordial realms.
The other gods, demons, immortals, and devils were more direct: before entering the ancient Babylonian mythological realm, they had searched in advance the memories humans of that world held about ancient Babylonian mythology, and were likewise well-versed in it.
"Could it be Shamash?"
No one answered; they did not believe this was Shamash, the sun god of ancient Babylonian mythology.
They had seen Shamash in the scenes branded upon the altar in the past. Setting aside the colossal stature, just from his bearing alone, he didn't quite match that Shamash.
Shamash also bore the title of war god; his bearing was not that of a scholar or a literary type, with no trace of frailty—he appeared robust, though not hulking, his build well-proportioned, like the famous sculpture The Thinker in physique.
The colossal corpse before them, bound and shackled between heaven and earth, had a hulking, muscular frame, like an unmatched demonic god.
Just looking at that burly, valiant build, one wouldn't doubt that without any divine power, relying on sheer bodily strength alone, he could carry a whole realm of heavens forward.
With one hand supporting a realm of heavens, he still had the strength to battle in all directions, sweeping through three thousand great worlds.
A presence that shook gods, demons, buddhas, and fiends alike.
"Sin?" The Demon Lord suddenly offered a word, referring to Sin, the moon god of ancient Babylonian mythology—and also the father of the sun god Shamash.
The next moment.
Everyone present turned their gaze over, expressions surprised, as if asking: you had that thought too?
The moon god Sin's image was that of a long-bearded elder; not only was he not burly, he couldn't even be called robust. Yet, including the Demon Lord, they all inexplicably felt that the colossal corpse bore a faint resemblance to the moon god Sin.
This feeling was indescribable.
Like Sin, yet not like Sin—could it be Sin's progenitor?
As everyone knew, the moon god Sin was an ancient deity of Babylonian mythology, but not the most ancient; above him stood even older gods.
For instance, Sin's father, Enlil, god of air and earth—one of the most ancient of the Babylonian gods.
Legend held that Enlil was a child born of heaven and earth; when he was born, he used the violent force of wind to separate his mother from 【her other half】, and from then on became a supreme god.
He was the power behind the throne of An, the sky god, and his consort Tum; god of earth and air, and also war god and wind god.
Not only that, he had once been the king of the gods in ancient Babylonian mythology, though later replaced by Marduk.
But undoubtedly, Enlil was powerful—one of the supreme chief gods of ancient Babylonian mythology.
Just as they all thought of Enlil in unison, the colossal corpse bound in the heavens seemed to sense their thoughts. Ha
Before such a supreme existence, no monsters or demons could hide; no thought could be concealed—seen through at a glance.
Rumble rumble rumble!
Heaven and earth quaked violently; the iron chains let out an unprecedented roar.
The colossal corpse was responding to their thoughts—or rather, when they called out Enlil's name in their hearts, he sensed it and reacted!
Like the power of faith: whenever one calls a god's name, the deity can sense it.
This is also why Christianity often involves prayer; they call upon the name of God, and God can hear their hearts.
And now, having called out Enlil in their hearts, the colossal corpse received it, thrashing against the chains as if trying to break free from these damnable shackles, to escape his bonds and reappear in the mortal world.
"Who! Who calls my name!"
The colossal corpse opened those eyes brighter than the sun and moon, as if both sun and moon hung in the sky at once—sun and moon aligned, sun and moon shining together.
The Demon Lord and the others were terrified; some were so shaken by that aura that they dropped to the ground and prostrated themselves on the spot.
They were gods and demons, true, but before a supreme being they were no different from ants—just like mortals encountering gods and demons, the two were indistinguishable. Before the supreme, all beneath the supreme are ants.
It really is Enlil!
The patterns on the iron chains blazed with a radiance brighter than the great sun, suppressing Enlil's awakening and rampage, not allowing him to break free.
Like bloodsucking, the light on the chains flickered from top to bottom; that light seemed to drain Enlil's vitality, divine power, spiritual force, and everything else.
Then the chains connected to the earth channeled that power into the ground, and at once terrifying divine radiance seeped up through the surface.
The divine radiance was not mere light—it brimmed with boundless power, as if plunging the gathered gods and demons into a materialized ocean of spiritual energy.
And this spiritual energy held great benefit for gods, demons, immortals, and devils alike; it even contained the essence of Dao, so that a single breath felt like it could bring enlightenment and ascension.
A heaven-sent opportunity!
And also a heaven-sent catastrophe!
The divine radiance gushed forth, flooding into the light barrier that connected to the outside world through the earth. There was too much—it overflowed the surface. The Demon Lord and the others standing in this realm had no choice but to absorb it, whether they wanted to or not.
The divine radiance erupted directly from the ground, drowning them in an instant.
"Ahhh!!!"
Some gods and demons sat cross-legged, straining hard to refine the spiritual energy, but their speed couldn't keep up with the influx; their bodies were bloated and burst apart.
They exploded into fragments.
Like a chain reaction of dominoes, one after another god and demon couldn't endure it, exploding and dying in succession. Divine and demonic blood splattered all around, drenching the Demon Lord and the others.
Their faces changed wildly; with no time to mind the blood covering them, they exerted every ounce of strength to frantically refine and seek enlightenment to advance.
This was a race against death.
Either refine it and rocket upward in strength, or fail to endure and explode to death.
Racing against time—every second was life and death at full speed.
"I am not willing!!!!" A Celestial Demon roared himself hoarse, his body swelling up like a balloon, veins and blood vessels surfacing across his skin.
Then with a bang, he exploded—body and divine soul together—into fragments.
He had already been working very hard to refine and to comprehend the Dao; in a short span of time, his strength had rocketed upward, climbing steadily. Cultivating here was worth a hundred, a thousand, ten thousand years of cultivation outside.
In less than half a day, he had advanced from Godly Being Fourth Step to Godly Being Fifth Step—and stopped there.
Upon stepping into Godly Being Fifth Step, he felt the might of Godly Being Fifth Step, but before he could savor it, before he could grow wild with triumph, ever more Supreme Spiritual Qi came flooding in.
He could only refine it.
The Supreme Spiritual Qi was too abundant; as his strength rose, the speed at which Supreme Spiritual Qi poured into his body grew faster.
So it turned out this influx speed was directly proportional to his strength.
To tell the truth, this Celestial Demon was very powerful. Relying on extraordinary talent, he kept absorbing and refining, gradually stabilizing Godly Being Fifth Step and pressing forward, walking the Godly Being Fifth Step path at great speed.
He could already see himself touching the threshold of Godly Being Sixth Step—break through this bottleneck and he would be Godly Being Sixth Step.
But breaking through the Godly Being Sixth Step bottleneck was easier said than done. His Dao-comprehension speed could not keep up with the influx of Supreme Spiritual Qi, and in the end he stopped at Godly Being Fifth Step, his body bursting apart.
This scene stung the nerves of the Demon Lord and all the gods, demons, immortals, and devils present.
