Chapter 61: The Perfect Alibi
If Cimu Douzi embodied refinement, then Kamikawa Mitsu's current image was one of sheer malevolence, neither wholly good nor evil; in his righteousness, he could command awe and sever ten thousand obstacles, while in his wickedness, he could slaughter all living beings and watch coldly as everything perished.
"Humans cannot match demons; that is no idle boast."
Surging demonic energy overflowed ceaselessly from every single cell as Kamikawa Mitsu personally experienced the power of a demon.
The difference between him as a human and him as a demon was too great; it was equivalent to comparing one person's combat power to that of an aircraft carrier.
"A Great Demon is roughly equivalent to the power of the largest aircraft carrier equipped with the world's most advanced technology."
Kamikawa Mitsu made a preliminary estimate of just how strong his Great Demon-level power truly was.
At that moment, the doorbell rang.
"Hmm? Someone's here."
Kamikawa Mitsu felt slightly confused; who could be coming to his house?
This was the time when Kamikawa Chie would return, but she had a key and did not need to ring the doorbell; it must be an outsider. Yet, since the original owner's parents died, very few people had visited the Kamikawa household.
Gathering his demonic energy and reverting to human form, Kamikawa Mitsu went to open the door.
Creak.
The door opened.
"Mr. Mori," Kamikawa Mitsu said, looking at the person outside with surprise.
Two middle-aged men stood at his doorway; Kamikawa Mitsu recognized one of them as Mori Takeshi, a Metropolitan Police Department Inspector who had gone through hardships with him on NH137.
The other person was unknown to Kamikawa Mitsu, yet he could guess their identity; there was an eighty percent chance they were from the Metropolitan Police Department, just like Mori Takeshi.
Seeing Mori Takeshi and the other Inspector, Kamikawa Mitsu immediately understood that they had come seeking him regarding the 'Deceased King'.
It was not that the government had discovered the Deceased King was Kamikawa Mitsu; that was impossible to discover.
Because the system protected the account, not even a god could trace the identity of the Deceased King, let alone the system itself.
The reason they sought Kamikawa Mitsu was to find clues from him.
It must be known that after the Deceased King released the second video, the government faced unprecedented public opinion.
Now, whether online or offline, many people were discussing the dark dealings of the zaibatsu and the government meetings shown in the video.
Never before in history had the dissatisfaction of the Japanese people with their government reached such an unprecedented peak.
In just one day.
Thousands of people held demonstrations across Japan, swearing their dissatisfaction with the government.
"We want the truth!"
"The government must provide an explanation!"
"The government treats human life as grass!"
"The zaibatsu harm civilians for profit; we need fairness and justice!"
All sorts of slogans erupted, all triggered by a single video.
For the Ribenzheng Prefecture, today was dark, disastrous, and busy.
They were under immense pressure; if they failed to handle the people's resentment properly, it could very likely trigger a political riot.
For this reason, while top leaders were busy to the point of being at their wits' end, they were even more inclined to curse.
Damn it!!
It's all the fault of the Deceased King!
If the Deceased King had not released the videos, they would not have to bear such heavy pressure and responsibility.
Immediately, top leaders jointly ordered the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department to launch an investigation into the Deceased King, to find out exactly how he managed to film their secret meetings, and to uncover the truth!
Otherwise, they would not dare to hold national meetings in the future.
Just imagine: every time a secret meeting was convened, the video would spread everywhere online shortly after, exposing the secrets; who could withstand that?
Everyone has secrets; as the highest authority of a nation, there must be even more secrets.
These secrets involve confidential matters that cannot be made public.
The appearance of the Deceased King broke this rule; it was a fatal blow to the government and could not be tolerated.
The Special Response Department for Supernatural Affairs, passed by the Diet, was a department specifically established to deal with supernatural humans and creatures such as demons, divine officials, and shrine maidens. On its very first day of establishment, it received its first order: find the Deceased King at all costs!
Due to his outstanding police skills and formidable strength, Mori Takeshi was transferred to the Special Response Department for Supernatural Affairs, becoming one of its first core members.
Through his investigation, he discovered the connection point between the two videos released by the Deceased King.
In the first video, Kamikawa Mitsu had appeared.
In the second video, although Nakano Yuuichi and Sakada Wenzhijie mentioned the apartment and its final resident, they did not explicitly mention the name Kamikawa Mitsu, nor even the surname Kamikawa (for details, see Chapter 25).
However, with the government's capabilities, investigating the cooperation between President Yamazaki and Sakada Wenzhijie to trace the apartment and its resident list was as easy as turning over one's hand.
They investigated and found that Kamikawa Mitsu was also a resident of that apartment.
Kamikawa Mitsu was the only person to appear in both videos.
Naturally, Kamikawa Mitsu became a key target for screening.
"Kamikawa-kun, nice to see you again."
Mori Takeshi moved his chin, covered in stubble, and grinned.
"Let me introduce you; this is my friend from the Metropolitan Police Department, Yoshimura Yoshiki. Haha, isn't the name funny? I think so too. Just call him Inspector Yoshimura."
Then, using the excuse that he was handling a case nearby and, knowing Kamikawa Mitsu's house was close by, had stopped by to visit, Mori Takeshi entered Kamikawa Mitsu's home.
Kamikawa Mitsu saw through this but said nothing.
"Kamikawa-kun, how have you been lately... ahem, I suppose I shouldn't say that."
"You saw that video, Kamikawa-kun, didn't you? I saw it too. Rest assured, I have reported this matter to the higher-ups. The higher-ups will investigate the Yamazaki Company thoroughly and will definitely provide justice for all residents of your apartment."
As an Inspector of the Metropolitan Police Department, it was impossible for him not to know about the video; Mori Takeshi was certainly not foolish enough to hide the fact that he hadn't seen it, so he brought up the video himself.
After all, he had come this time to investigate Kamikawa Mitsu.
Although he himself did not quite believe that Kamikawa Mitsu was connected to the Deceased King, or might even be the Deceased King, what if?
If Kamikawa Mitsu were the Deceased King, perhaps saying this could lower his guard.
"Then thank you, Mr. Mori."
Immediately, while chatting with Mori Takeshi, whenever Mori Takeshi tried to draw him out, Kamikawa Mitsu held nothing back, saying everything he could, all of it the truth.
This included how Nakano Yuichi threatened them, that the incident at the Yunhu in the Arakawa District occurred while he happened to be working at a convenience store, and that when the Diet convened, he was attending class at school.
All sorts of circumstances were laid out completely.
One could say Kamikawa Mitsu had a perfect alibi; the convenience store surveillance, and both teachers and students knew he was in class.
Regarding these pieces of evidence, Kamikawa Mitsu could not lie, and they could be easily verified.
The surveillance footage from the convenience store, the footage from the roads near Kamikawa Mitsu's home, the footage from the doorsteps of nearby residents, and so on, could all be obtained, then experts could be asked to investigate, completely uncovering the truth and proving Kamikawa Mitsu was at the convenience store at that time.
Not only could the surveillance footage be reviewed, but the police could also find the customers who came to the convenience store in the footage, interrogate the customers, and thus verify whether Kamikawa Mitsu was at the convenience store that day.
Even though several days had passed since that day, there was no fear that the customers would not remember.
The reason was simple: the time the Yunhu incident occurred was such an important day; the customers could not possibly forget what they did that day.
Additionally, the convenience store where Kamikawa Mitsu was located and the street where the Sakurada Group building stood were not in the same place; although both belonged to the Arakawa District, one was in a commoner's apartment area and the other on a bustling street, with a very, very long distance between them. Running back and forth, there was simply not enough time, so as long as the customers' testimony was obtained, it would be easy to prove Kamikawa Mitsu was not there.
Besides the customers' testimony...
There was more.
At the time the Yunhu incident occurred, everyone in the Arakawa District ran out to watch; on the street where Kamikawa Mitsu's convenience store was located, there were certainly people, and surely a few of them saw Kamikawa Mitsu, proving he was present.
As for the Diet meeting session, Kamikawa Mitsu was at Arakawa District High School, where he even beat up the school bully, so many people could prove he was at school.
The distance between the Arakawa District and Tokyo was very far; one could not walk there, and at the very least had to take the subway.
With such a distance, and Kamikawa Mitsu being at school during the Diet meeting, attending class, the teachers and students could again prove he was in class.
Having received Kamikawa Mitsu's reply, Mori Takeshi and Yoshimura Yoshimura looked at each other.
From the reply provided by Kamikawa Mitsu, they basically ruled out the possibility that Kamikawa Mitsu was the Deceased King.
However, to further confirm, they would monitor Kamikawa Mitsu over the next few days or even a week.
If the Deceased King released a video and the monitored Kamikawa Mitsu was still not present, that would be enough to prove the Deceased King was not Kamikawa Mitsu.
Moreover, under surveillance, it would also be possible to rule out that Kamikawa Mitsu was an accomplice of the Deceased King, or had any connection.
Regarding Mori Takeshi's thoughts, even without mind-reading abilities, Kamikawa Mitsu knew they would monitor him.
To this, Kamikawa Mitsu did not care.
He produced the video within the consciousness space; in other words, monitoring Kamikawa Mitsu, watching him watch television in the living room, actually meant his consciousness had already entered the consciousness space to produce and upload the video.
As for being an accomplice or having a connection, that could not be discovered through monitoring either.
Kamikawa Mitsu himself was the Deceased King; if the government could not find that Kamikawa Mitsu was the Deceased King, how could they possibly find that Kamikawa Mitsu was an accomplice?
Time passed quickly.
Mori Takeshi, Yoshimura Yoshimura, and Kamikawa Mitsu and his sister talked very late.
They chatted until 10 o'clock at night.
At the same time.
Tokyo, Japan, Chiyoda District, a certain private villa.
At this moment, there were dozens of people in the villa.
Tsuchimikado Xia Mei and Tsuchimikado Kenji were conspicuously among them.
Besides the two of them, the head priests and abbots of major Japanese shrines and temples such as Asakusa Temple and Ise Grand Shrine were all present.
Director Takahashi was, of course, among them as well!
