Chapter 106: Heavenly Thunder Descends!

~8 min read 1,479 words

After dealing with that troublesome old man, Baichuan, his entire body wrapped in terrifying electric current—so much so that arcs of electricity leapt across his scales—slowly looked down at the crowd below.

In an instant, a single beat of his wings carried surging electrical energy as he charged wildly about the entire valley.

Wherever he passed, not a single person remained standing; all of them toppled stiffly to the ground, or were simply smashed into a mist of blood by his massive body.

After rampaging through the valley for several minutes, Baichuan suddenly felt an intense, inexplicable sense of crisis wash over him—so strong that in an instant every scale on his body stood on end.

Instinctively, he raised his head to look at the sky, the source of that crisis.

As he watched, his extraordinary vision revealed that, at some unknown moment, a massive magnetic channel had appeared between heaven and earth—a channel that began within those pitch-black clouds and was creeping toward him inch by inch.

It was a magnetic channel formed by countless negative charges gathering together.

In an instant, he realized what was happening: he had driven far, far too much electric current, and that current was, in essence, electric charge.

Charges attract one another, forming a channel—and that channel is called a "discharge channel"!

In other words, it is the path lightning takes in nature. Once this channel forms, a massive amount of electrical energy will pour down from the clouds; as that energy moves rapidly, violent discharge is bound to occur, breaking through the air and producing sparks.

And those sparks are what ordinary human eyes perceive as lightning.

In other words, Baichuan had unknowingly used his own body to link up with the current in the clouds, forming a faint, flickering "discharge channel."

Once that channel was truly completed, a bolt of lightning would come crashing down in an instant.

Far from being alarmed, Baichuan actually laughed.

"Disaster has descended upon you lot—have a taste of being struck by lightning!"

That was the very first thought that arose in Baichuan after he discovered the source of that sense of crisis.

Perhaps it was because great skill bred great courage, and because being able to see the true nature of lightning brought its own confidence.

He calculated the time remaining before the lightning would truly descend and complete the channel, as well as where the crowd was thickest at that moment.

Then, in the blink of an eye, he folded his wings and began staring fixedly at the approaching channel.

Ignoring the group that was terrified beyond measure—even their faces twisted as they screamed "Don't come any closer!"—he began running at top speed, and as he ran he spewed out large quantities of ice essence all around the crowd.

In an instant, the ice essence rose layer upon layer through the curtain of rain, transforming into towering ice walls that blocked their escape.

And at that moment, he carried his massive charge with him, drawing the discharge channel right into the midst of the crowd.

The next instant, the current first discharged violently, then abruptly stopped—immediately, the vast charge on Baichuan's body lost its pull.

It began drilling down into the ground, which caused a huge amount of charge to remain directly within the large group of people who had no time to flee.

Baichuan cast a casual glance at those armored, winged monstrosities, then with a single Burst left behind a string of afterimages as he departed.

Along the way, small ice walls stood everywhere—formed by the freezing of his body's cold aura.

Although this rainwater was not pure, impurity-free water that could render those ice blocks completely non-conductive, increasing their electrical resistance to weaken the lightning's pull in his direction was still something he could manage.

A few seconds later, the clouds first flickered.

Then, a blinding blue-purple thunderbolt came crashing down from the heavens above!

"BOOM!!"

The dazzling lightning exploded at point-blank range; a massive amount of electrical energy poured down from the clouds, turning heaven and earth into a sheet of white—as if endless electrical energy were rampaging unchecked through the crowd.

In less than a single second, that entire group of people from before had all collapsed; the towering ice walls shattered and scattered, and at their center, the ground and corpses slowly emitted a faint, white mist.

Looking at the scene before him—especially at such close range—even though Baichuan had calculated the approximate timing and dodged accordingly.

Afterward, he still felt an intensely thrilling sensation, and could not help sighing that the might of heaven and earth was truly unfathomable!

……

Ten minutes later, there was not a single person left standing anywhere in the entire valley.

The price, however, was that the scales across Baichuan's entire body faintly glowed a crimson red—the burden caused by the current rampaging through him. Fortunately, the impact was minor—at least not as severe as on his wings.

At this moment, Baichuan could feel his wings tingling with numbness and weakness; he estimated he probably wouldn't be able to fly for the time being.

But fortunately, after using electric current for so long, he had developed a certain resistance, so he calculated that he would probably only need to rest an hour or two to recover and regain the strength in his wings.

Yet Baichuan laughed at his current state—he hadn't expected that after this entire battle, the greatest damage he had sustained was caused by his own power.

The enemy could truly be said to have inflicted absolutely no harm on him… oh, except for those sound waves that suddenly erupted from that group and made him somewhat dizzy and nauseous—those probably don't count, right?

For some reason, Baichuan felt that the great sects that had once forced him to flee now seemed utterly unable to withstand a single blow.

Throughout the entire battle, he felt there wasn't a single one who could fight; their strength, compared to his, all seemed the same—there was absolutely no distinction between strong and weak.

Even that red-robed elder with the highest presence and the strangest-colored wings was no different.

It might be because he was simply too strong—so strong that comparing him to those people was like comparing humans to ants; did the size of those ants, big or small, make any difference to a human?

By the same logic, did it matter whether these people were strong or weak, as far as he was concerned?

No—he only felt that he hadn't even exerted his full strength before they all collapsed. The only trouble was that there were simply too many of them, and they ran around chaotically, which was a bit of a hassle.

He figured that what he currently lacked was a direct attack with an enormous range that was also unaffected by the environment.

However, at present, that seemed very difficult to change.

Shaking his head, Baichuan paid no more attention to those dead beings.

Now came the time for him to reap his harvest.

But before harvesting, Baichuan decided to go somewhere first.

That's right—the massive cavern in the mountain where he had just been.

As for why, it was partly to take a look and see what exactly these things—more like demons than people—were up to.

What factor could have driven these things to create such a situation, and at the same time, by examining a small part, he could gain some understanding of the specific situation across this Da Zhou.

A faction that could be called a great sect throughout the entire Da Zhou Dynasty was, after all, one of the masters of this land; the information obtainable from them would surely be far greater than from ordinary people.

A dynasty that could stand for a thousand years without anyone overthrowing it absolutely could not be underestimated!

Thinking of this, Baichuan slowly walked away toward the cliff face, because his wings had been numbed by his own electrical energy for the time being.

So he could only return to the state he had been in when he first arrived—claws digging into the mountainside, inching forward one step at a time.

Ten minutes later.

Accompanied by a vicious claw gripping the edge of the now much-larger hole, its rim still bearing scorch marks, Baichuan had finally returned here once more.

Gazing at the horrifying scene before him, Baichuan slowly let out a sigh, then paid it no further heed.

The violent fury in his heart had already been vented; now the entire snake had regained a calm state of mind, no longer wishing to bother with these chaotic, irrelevant things.

He strolled leisurely within, exploring, but he very quickly froze.

Because within his perception, at this moment, there had actually appeared an extremely familiar creature!

A creature that shared no shallow bond with him…
