Chapter 216: Don't Have a Baby!
"Hey, little guy!"
The black-robed existence moistened his throat and spoke.
"Who?! …Ah!"
In an instant, the bone creature that had been climbing head-first down the great rift froze its entire body; the flames in its eye sockets flickered violently, as if about to be snuffed out, and then it cried out in great alarm.
But who could have known that perhaps its movements were too violent, and that in its unsettled state it gripped the cliff wall it was climbing with too much force.
As the large claw that anchored its whole body clenched tight, a crisp cracking sound rang out, and the creature that just a second before had been clinging to the cliff face and climbing down instantly lost its balance and tumbled downward.
Boom—
A few seconds later, a muffled, tremendous crash echoed faintly from the bottom of the rift.
The bone dragon-like creature that had previously looked so majestic and imposing had now spectacularly fallen apart at the bottom of the valley, its skeletal frame scattered all around.
All that remained was an empty dragon skull with black-purple flames flickering within it.
"…" The black-robed existence.
The black robe was speechless; at this moment, for some reason he kept feeling that this undead creature was a bit… dim-witted, stupid.
Had he really decided to spend his days and nights together with this undead creature?
"Hey, you saw that, right?"
At this moment, a voice drifted up faintly.
Hmm~
The black robe was startled inwardly—had it come to its senses and noticed him?
"Hey, say something!"
But because he kept failing to answer, the strange creature spoke up once more; only, why did its tone seem to carry a hint of a fearful, tearful quiver?
"Mm, what is it?"
This time it made the black robe's heart clench, and he answered without hesitation.
A gut feeling told him that if he didn't respond, something very unpleasant was likely to happen.
"…………Eek~!!!"
A strange, mournful wail burst straight out of the bone dragon's head, and then the flames in its eye sockets began to flicker and flash wildly.
At this moment, the newly born "undead creature" kept wailing inwardly.
It's here! It's here!!
A ghost!
There's really a ghost!!
No, I have to hide!
In its terror, the dragon head that represented its consciousness suddenly shot up into the air, as if buoyed by something, and then the scattered bones around it flew back toward its dragon head and reassembled themselves, as if drawn by a strange suction.
The entire reassembly took less than two seconds, and the heap of bones on the ground transformed once more into a somewhat imposing bone dragon.
The next moment, this reassembled bone dragon frantically looked this way and that, and then its six limbs each began doing their own thing, running off in different directions, nearly tearing its whole body apart once again.
Only at last, under the control of the flame-consciousness within the dragon head, did it barely manage to coordinate its direction and dash toward the cave it had been staying in before.
A few short minutes later, having tucked itself back into the cave, it patted the empty bones of its own chest with its bone claws as if to calm itself, and muttered to itself, "Th-that ghost should be gone by now, right?"
"Dammit, there's really a ghost. No, I have to check if it's still around, I need to move somewhere else!"
So saying, the bone creature, having mustered a bit of courage again, began peeking this way and that, peering out of the cave.
"…" The black robe.
And naturally, the black-robed existence, who had been curled up within its consciousness the whole time, had watched this entire scene play out; for a moment his feelings were impossibly complicated, and he didn't know whether he should open his mouth again.
He had actually been swallowed by a creature like this?!
If others found out about this in the future, how would he ever show his face again?
Even though he was in a state of severely depleted magic power, it still shouldn't have come to this!
After a long while, having thought it over carefully and unable to stand watching any longer, the black robe could only helplessly speak up once more: "What are you looking at?"
"…Eek?!!"
Sure enough, in an instant, the creature that had been peeking around preparing to leave was caught completely off guard, and amid its wailing its entire body put on a perfect show of "souls fleeing in terror."
"Y-you, why are you still here? Quick! Quick, get out of me!"
Once it reacted, the bone creature immediately began stammering, glaring left and right at the empty air and berating it nonstop.
Its tone and movements looked exactly like a little girl who was scared but had no choice but to summon her courage—except that it clashed terribly with its hideously terrifying bone body.
"I'm inside your body…"
Seeing how panicked it was, the black robe had no choice but to remind it once more.
"What?! I-inside my body?!"
But no sooner had these words left his mouth than the bone creature grew even more frightened, letting out an incredulous cry; and then it actually began patting the empty bones of its own belly and sobbing.
"N-no way, I'm still just a baby, I haven't gotten my revenge yet! I-I don't want a baby!"
"Wuwu~~ that rotten father… bad dragon! It must have been his doing back then! I'm going to find him and get revenge!"
For a moment, the strange behavior of this undead creature completely dumbfounded even the worldly-wise black robe.
Even though he prided himself on being well-traveled, claiming there were hardly any scenes in the world he hadn't witnessed—from terrifying battles among the gods above, down to mortal aunties in Ren Jian cursing each other in the street below—he could chat away endlessly and brag about them all to anyone.
But a scene like this…
Honestly, he really had never seen one!
So much so that he too was completely flustered, and hurriedly said: "Hey, hey, stop crying, I'm not your baby, don't you remember? The human you ate earlier? I didn't die!"
He had to explain, because his body was already gone, and this wasn't his home main world; one could say that right now, apart from this single wisp of consciousness, he had absolutely zero power to resist.
Under normal circumstances, as a demigod, even if he had been swallowed and reduced to nothing but his consciousness, he shouldn't have been left without a shred of resistance.
He could completely hide his own consciousness, then borrow the magical power that the existence which had swallowed him was unconsciously absorbing, thereby accumulating enough magical power to trigger the energies of heaven and earth, and then turn the tables and kill the other party.
However, he was now in another world…
A completely different world that didn't have a single trace of magical power or laws, only an unfamiliar and utterly alien energy.
In such a world, what good was his consciousness being that of a demigod? Forget a demigod—even if a deity came, without access to magical power, once the magic within their body was exhausted, they would still die!
Therefore, he could truly be said to have no choice but to bow his head beneath the eaves!
While pondering, Hei Pao also felt a bit of a headache and patiently began to explain.
"Boohoo~ You, you really… really aren't the baby inside my body?"
"That's right, exactly!"
"And I don't need to have a baby?"
"That's right! Who would dare let you have a baby."
"Oh~"
Slowly stopping its crying, the bone creature, having understood that things hadn't turned out as badly as it had imagined, suddenly shifted its tone drastically and said somewhat viciously:
"Then why are you still staying inside my body? Quick! Get out!"
"……" Hei Pao.
