Chapter 27

After this news was sent, he slumped in his chair in despair and did not recover for a long time.

In the following days, besides strictly ordering the Yamen granaries not to open for grain distribution, Gao Yang began his mode of wandering around.

Either he took him to enjoy the scenery of the Qingshuihe that ran through the entire Guangyang Prefecture, or he went to the temple every day to pray for blessings and chat with the Abbot, looking like a believer.

Gao Yang had visited all of the more than ten temples near Jiangcheng!

Seeing that seven days had passed, grain prices in Jiangcheng had not only not decreased but had gone higher and higher, even far exceeding the one hundred and fifty wen per dou on the Yamen's notice, reaching a terrifying two hundred wen per dou!

And there was still a momentum of climbing.

Gao Yang not only did not use any means to curb it, but instead wanted to take advantage of this great disaster to renovate the Yamen and hold large-scale events!

Therefore, even though he knew Gao Yang was foolish, he could not help but remind Gao Yang, hoping he would think of a way.

If this continued, a great chaos in Jiangcheng was about to arrive!

Gao Yang looked at Du Jiang and did not answer directly, only saying faintly: "What have the four major grain merchants been doing these past few days?"

Du Jiang said with a dark face, "Since the Yamen posted the notice, the four major grain merchants have used large sums of silver to frantically sweep up all the grain in the hands of other small grain merchants at the price of one hundred wen per dou. Even at one hundred and fifty wen per dou, they won't sell, causing grain prices to soar. Now they are hoarding grain, waiting for the grain in the hands of the commoners to be exhausted, and then continue to raise grain prices!"

"These people won't even sell at two hundred wen per dou!"

A smile appeared on Gao Yang's face, his gaze cold. "Tomorrow, start recruiting workers on a large scale to renovate the Yamen, and furthermore, post a public notice that I am going to hold a grand dragon boat race!"

"The winner will be exempt from commercial taxes for three years!" ===== CHAPTER 29 =====
