Chapter 358

Then, based on the direction and shape of the cracks on the tortoise shell, one judges the good or bad fortune by the three parts: the body, the head, and the feet.

For a time.

The civil and military officials all held their breath, their eyes fixed tightly on the roasting tortoise shell.

Crack!

With a crisp sound, the tortoise shell developed visible cracks. After being doused with cold water, the shell became even clearer.

Cui Xinghe's mind was tense. When he saw the cracks, his expression turned grim.

"The tortoise body is the main trunk, representing the process of the matter being divined. The corresponding cracks should be straight for good fortune, and the opposite for bad!"

"The tortoise head is the head, representing the beginning of the matter. Cracks that are high and raised are good, while those that droop low are bad."

"The feet are the two legs, representing the end of the matter. Cracks that show movement are good, while the opposite is static and bad!"

"The cracks on the tortoise body are broken and not straight at all; the cracks on the tortoise head droop low; the cracks on the tortoise feet are not visible. This is a sign of great misfortune!"

Following Cui Xinghe's words, the officials' expressions changed drastically.

The head, body, and feet of the tortoise were all signs of great misfortune. Wouldn't leaving the city with the army be a path to certain death?

"Your Majesty, this must not be done!"

"This is a revelation from Heaven; one must not go against the will of Heaven!"

For a time, the censors spoke up one after another.

Wu Zhao's expression was grim. She had not expected the result of the divination to be so bad.

She clenched her fists, her eyes flickering. If they did not take the initiative to attack, would they just watch as the Chu army nibbled away at Da Qian step by step?

She was extremely unwilling to accept this!

But Gao Yang's eyes lit up, and he hurriedly cupped his hands. "Congratulations, Your Majesty! This is a sign of great fortune!"

"I implore Your Majesty to send out the troops and fight a decisive battle with the Chu army."

In an instant, Wu Zhao raised her stunned eyes.

The officials were also stunned. They looked at Gao Yang for a moment, then collectively looked at Cui Xinghe.

Cui Xinghe's expression was also bad. He thought he had misread it and carefully scrutinized the cracks on the tortoise shell again.

He couldn't help but speak up. "Lord Gao, did you misread it?"

"This is clearly a sign of great misfortune on the head, feet, and body of the tortoise. Where is the sign of great fortune?"

A smile appeared on Gao Yang's face. He turned to look at Cui Xinghe, his voice resounding through the Imperial Study.

"Judging from the cracks on the tortoise shell, it is indeed a sign of great misfortune, a situation of certain death!"

"But I forgot to mention just now: my divination has never been accurate." ===== CHAPTER 360 =====
