Chapter 595

Yan Wushuang was somewhat disbelieving, somewhat skeptical.

Gao Yang shook his head with a light smile, saying: "What I have said is an understatement, if anything!"

"I ask Lord Gao to clarify!"

Yan Wushuang's eyes were serious as he spoke.

Gao Yang's words had sounded an alarm for him.

Although he did not know why Gao Yang was so kind.

"Very well, I will tell you, Your Highness, about this land annexation; after all, after this meal, you and I are friends, we are brothers!"

"So-called land annexation is when the farmers' land is annexed by noble families. Why is it said that land annexation cannot be avoided? Its essence is that food production is too low, and the people do not have enough to eat!"

"Under this problem, land annexation will definitely happen!"

"A farmer's year has no more than four stages: spring plowing, summer weeding, autumn harvest, and winter storage. After the autumn harvest, a portion is handed over to the government, a portion is sold, and a portion is hoarded as rations for the coming year!"

"But often, this food is not enough to eat, so some farmers will face a thorny problem: when the food is almost eaten up in winter and spring, what should they do?"

Yan Wushuang said subconsciously, "If it's not enough to eat, then they can only borrow."

"Correct, just as Your Highness said, if there is not enough to eat, they can only borrow; otherwise, are the whole family to starve to death? But following this, a new problem arises: who to borrow from?"

"Borrow from relatives and friends? This is certainly the best choice, but if your family doesn't have enough to eat, does mine? What if they borrow and don't pay it back? So often, only one choice remains!"

"The local landlord!"

"Landlords have money and food, have a prominent reputation locally, and they are willing to lend food, but this food cannot be lent to you for nothing, right? Where in the world is there such a good thing?"

Yan Wushuang stared into Gao Yang's eyes, feeling a chill from head to toe!

At this moment, he felt his hair stand on end, his skin crawling!

Gao Yang continued, word by word, "They not only charge high interest, but also require these people who cannot get enough to eat to sign a guarantee; if they cannot pay back the food when it is due, they must use their land as collateral!"

"And this... is the embryonic form of land annexation!"
