Chapter 102: My Little Sister Can't Possibly Be This Cute
"Brother, want to make a trade?"
Inside a Chicago subway station, a similar scene — the only difference was that the one sitting across was not a little boy.
A little girl with black waist-length hair, dressed in a medieval noble's gown, sat across from him; her adorable face paired with those golden eyes gave off an untouchable, look-but-don't-touch vibe.
The scene shifted — the little girl clung to Lu Mingfei, leaning in close to his ear: "Give me your soul, Brother. Whatever wish you have, I can make it come true for you."
*Ding-ling-ling*
Lu Mingfei woke from the dream, his head groggy. It took him several dozen seconds to remember who he was, where he was, and what he was supposed to do.
"Lu Mingze…"
"So cute…"
No, wait!
Lu Mingfei jolted upright. His recent dreams had been getting stranger and stranger. Although he was glad there was no fighting and killing in them, what on earth was all this?!
Come to think of it, last time he even dreamed of a white giant dragon turning into a white-haired, golden-eyed little girl fighting Lu Mingze over "Brother"…
"Has my brain been corroded by anime?" Lu Mingfei roasted himself. "I haven't even been watching much lately — just that one trip to Akihabara…"
It was now 6 p. m. Lu Mingfei planned to tidy up, wash up, and then get ready for his shift.
Under someone's coercion, against his better judgment, he had ultimately ended up at Gao Tian Yuan nightclub, working as a gofer host.
Caesar, on the other hand, was having the time of his life, interested in this looks-for-money kind of work. A top-tier rich second-generation "experiencing life" seemed to have taken a wrong turn…
But there was nothing to be done about it either — the Snake Eight Families had pinned a pile of god-and-man-condemning charges on them, and now they were wanted criminals.
Apart from this Gao Tian Yuan nightclub, there really wasn't anywhere decent to go.
Mopping the floor, wiping tables, closing the drafty windows and turning on the central air.
There was plenty to do — after all, he was only an "intern host."
This actually suited him just fine. The job of soothing those lonely young ladies' hearts and emptying their pockets of gold notes could be left to Caesar and Chu Zihang. Best not to draw any attention to himself…
The one real gain was probably that his clumsy Japanese had improved quite a bit from chatting with customers and coworkers during this time.
Around 8 or 9 p. m., one after another, the office ladies finishing their shifts began streaming into this city that never sleeps.
Lu Mingfei was guiding a few customers to their booth, sticky notes and menu in hand, ready to jot down their requests.
"Luo Xiaoying, the boss is looking for you. I'll take over here."
"Oh, okay."
Lu Mingfei couldn't figure out what that bald, burly guy — the scary-looking-but-actually-decent-fellow known as "Zatou Kujira" — wanted with him. Weren't the evaluations already over?
Anyway, it was all Lu Mingze's business. No matter what they said, he'd be kept on. He just couldn't accept that the man thought his flower arrangement looked like a corn poppy.
"Tonight, two distinguished guests have specifically requested your company. You must, absolutely must, serve them well!" Zatou Kujira's booming voice suddenly dropped low: "And you absolutely must protect yourself, Luo Xiaoying!"
On the sea-blue velvet sofa, Zatou Kujira sat with his fingers crossed, expression grave. That last line was never supposed to be said out loud — it would offend those two noble ladies — but he truly couldn't bear to see Luo Xiaoying get hurt!
Although those two, in both looks and status… for the vast majority of men, this was the kind of plotline that only happened in dreams.
There's no such scene in the plot?!
Lu Mingfei stared blankly at this bald, bear-like hulk of a man. He seriously suspected someone was messing with him — after all, those guys had also arrived in this world today.
Apart from Zhong Li, Lu Mingfei held no expectations for the lower limits of his other group-chat friends in this world — especially Su Lin. That man had no bottom.
Zatou Kujira stood up, opened a hidden door, and gestured for Lu Mingfei to follow.
"That must be Lu Mingze." Lu Mingfei sighed. Having read the plot thoroughly, he knew that the real boss's office was inside.
Inside the fish tank, elegant silver arowanas glided slowly by; the accompanying ornamental fish species drifted lazily upward through the seaweed along with little streams of bubbles.
This fish-tank wall in the Gao Tian Yuan nightclub boss's room actually used a one-way peephole mechanism — the back was one-way glass, letting the people in the secret room see everything in the main hall clearly, while the people in the hall couldn't see this luxurious secret room.
The secret room was lavishly decorated — crystal chandeliers and marble floors complemented each other beautifully, the walls covered with handsome portraits of award-winning hosts from the past decades, enough to testify to Gao Tian Yuan's glorious history. From the sofa to the desk, everything was antique furniture; an old-fashioned vinyl record player was playing Puccini's *Madama Butterfly*.
The man named for the great whale stopped walking, stood respectfully at the junction between the secret room and the corridor, and turned sideways to leave Lu Mingfei plenty of room to pass.
A hint of sorrow flickered in his eyes. To keep this shop running, tonight he had to offer up Luo Xiaoying to those two "empresses."
Lu Mingfei gave Zatou Kujira a strange look, then, expression unchanged, gave a flick of his nonexistent long robe's sleeve and walked in calmly. He was a cultivator, after all — what was there to fear?
Sitting on the leather sofa were the two real bosses, radiant together, filling Lu Mingfei's gaze.
On the left was a forest-style girl with refreshingly long hair; the girl on the right was gorgeously exotic, her jet-black hair piled high in a bun, red ribbons wound through it.
They both wore black leather jackets and leather skirts, black stockings, and over-the-knee black patent-leather boots; the silver metal stiletto heels were sharp enough to look like murder weapons.
The two sat side by side on the sofa, at the far right and far left respectively.
Lu Mingfei froze for a beat. Weren't these two the nanny combo Lu Mingze had arranged for him? The one with the long legs was obviously Jiude Mayi; the other forest-style girl should be Su Enxi — a rich woman.
"Luo Xiaoying, come sit here." Jiude Mayi smoothed her skirt hem and patted the spot beside her. "Zatou Kujira, you can step out first."
Zatou Kujira bowed and withdrew, casting a pitying glance at Lu Mingfei before leaving, deep apology hidden in his eyes.
"Sit over here!" Su Enxi wiggled her shoulders and patted the spot to her left. "I bought this place. In other words, I'm your boss. Get over here."
"Right now you give off the vibe of a female thug trying to bully a decent house-husband with your power." Jiude Mayi shook her head. "Changing your outfit doesn't change your aura — that kind of thing isn't so easy to fake."
"Witch, hold your tongue!" Su Enxi slapped the empty seat beside her, her tone a little excited. "Luo Xiaoying, come over here and let me get a good look at you."
Seeing Lu Mingfei standing rooted to the spot like a wooden chicken, and her own lovesick reflection cast back at her by the fish tank behind him, Su Enxi's cheeks flushed slightly and she reined herself in a bit.
"Ahem, come over. Today we're going to have a proper chat about work."
"Watch one romance drama and now you think you're the female lead?" Jiude Mayi teased. "Sure enough, being single too long makes your willpower that easy to sway. You're just one step away from stripping yourself naked. Look at me — I don't feel a thing."
"Heh, then why don't you get the hell out of here and stop being a third wheel?"
Watching the two of them trade barbs, Lu Mingfei was a bit dumbfounded.
What the hell is going on?
