Chapter 136: I Feel I Owe an Apology for the Ending of the Dragon Race Arc

~3 min read 575 words

I feel I owe an apology for the ending of the Dragon Race arc.

I'm sorry, everyone who had high expectations for the Dragon Race arc — I admit, it really was too rushed. The final chapter has already been revised; those readers who saw the original version and still didn't drop the book are true fans.

Apologies, you can refresh the page. But the revised version probably still won't be entirely satisfactory either. Indeed, the quality of the last few chapters dropped — I laid a lot of groundwork, but when I was first drafting it I personally overlooked a few issues: first, the perspective of the group members; second, the ordering of the content; third, the interleaving of the length.

As for the length itself, I think it's actually fine... haha...

At first I wanted to lay out the background worldview of the Dragon Race, since Jiang Nan the old thief has patched so much in, and it looked pretty interesting. Also, those hidden factions and items in the original Dragon Race work — some readers said it was filler, some said it was well-written, some liked it and some didn't. That's all normal, but I should have tried my best to strike a balance.

Yesterday I got off work late and rushed to update, and I also wanted to wrap things up. The criticism you all gave the final chapter is well deserved. When I got up this morning and started revising, I myself felt some regret — I should have given this story a proper ending.

What's done is done. All I can do is do a major revision later and try to make the Dragon Race story as good as possible. The word count will only go up, not down, and there won't be duplicate subscriptions. Some things that weren't finished can only be told through side stories, using Lu Mingfei and Old Lu's perspectives. In future new instances, I need to watch out for these issues — plan thoroughly in advance, then write at my own pace.

Then let's talk about Old Lu and Hui Liyi's personalities. Old Lu's portrayal at the end did have some issues — it's already been fixed. But Hui Liyi's personality itself is the kind with an extremely strong possessive desire; the original work describes her that way too. The only time this girl ever shared anything with someone else was when she shared with Lu Mingfei. Before that, she wouldn't even share with Yuan Zhisheng.

The protagonist didn't really guide her — at most he just kept her from being coaxed into agreeing to Old Lu's plans. Her personality itself destined that she couldn't tolerate anyone else in matters of love; she only had unconditional trust in Lu Mingfei, and was easy to coax.

Some readers said I've written Hui Liyi as a yandere — I have to cry foul on that one.

Now about the updates... really, this month has been even busier than the month of New Year. I also have a business trip next week, so I can only maintain 4000–0000 words a day. Since going on the shelves, I've never actually begged for monthly votes or anything like that during regular updates, because I really don't have the nerve.

Starting mid-March, I'll be back to a 6000-word baseline, pushing harder.

Someone must have thought they clicked in for an update... haha... apologies again.

Nothing more tonight… don't wait up.
