Chapter 607: Agreement Two Passed: Execute Meng Wangle Operation
Deep night had already passed more than half its course.
A lavish crystal chandelier emitted warm, soft light; three Victorian-era sofas, with their intricate carvings and silken upholstery, stood as relics of history in the hall.
Su Lin held a book recording magic, his gaze withdrawing from the direction of the Holy Sanctuary.
He silently regarded the man kneeling on the polished hardwood floor, bound by restrictions, his face filled with terror.
Beside him lay a green banana leaf fan inlaid with gold thread.
"Judging by the time, it should be about right," Su Lin said, his expression cold yet languid, as he sat down on the sofa.
The carved mirror above the fireplace reflected the quietly burning bonfire and the seven figures standing within its flame shadows.
"This monk possesses seventy-three—no, seventy-four purple-gold alms bowls."
Su Lin crossed his legs, hands resting on his knees, and said:
"An A-rank reincarnator team entering a team battle instance seeking promotion—if they survive the Western Journey—will inevitably become an S-rank team after promotion."
"Seventy-three restarts of the Western Journey, decades passed—whether their promotion order was early or late, it's no surprise that teams were assigned this large-scale copy for a new long-term mission."
"They must have endured countless trials of life and death to reach this point."
Hearing Su Lin's admiration, the man felt a strange surge of pride, yet he could not utter a sound, his gaze fixed only on his reflection on the polished floor.
Su Lin's gaze lingered briefly on the banana leaf fan, then lifted to the young man behind Yang Erlang, to Yang Jian's right: "Who is he?"
"Yang Yan, a celestial intern placed by the Queen Mother of the West. You've already approved him," Yang Erlang replied.
Do you think I'll pay you five spirit stones a day?
Feng Xiaoxiao, are you out of your mind from poverty?
Su Lin's eyes went vacant for an instant, then he refocused on the handsome young man named Yang Yan.
"I pay my respects… I pay my respects to Lord Haotian," Yang Yan said, bowing forward under Yang Jian's prompting: "I am Yang Erlang's reincarnation, accompanying Li Chang."
Yang Erlang's eye twitched as he looked at Yang Yan—he had no desire whatsoever to be reincarnated right now.
"Where is Feng Xiaoxiao?"
"She went to capture Laojun."
Yang Yan spoke plainly: "Originally we were going to capture Chiyou, but she estimated that Laojun, who can brew pills, could fetch a better price here, so she changed targets."
Is she planning to sell all the immortals from another world over here?!
The one who created humans has become a kidnapper?!
After a moment of stunned silence, Su Lin continued:
"I'll ask Yuanshi if the Yang Erlang from the Immortal Realm is still there—perfect, every Yang Erlang should have a counterpart."
"No no, no need."
Yang Yan waved him off—he didn't even know why he was stuck in the celestial court of another realm before being dragged over here.
"Don't want to join the Holy Grail War?" Su Lin said in surprise.
"Then go reincarnate and nurture your soul. I see your spirit is still weak—perfect chance to rebuild your body after rebirth."
Reincarnation, clichéd tragic romance, three-realm live-streamed video
"I'm already reincarnated—I'm willing to join!" Yang Yan, remembering the Saint's Opinion Box he'd encountered with Tai Bai Taibai Jinxing, broke into cold sweat and hurriedly agreed: "I obey orders and respond to summons!"
Tsk.
A tsk came from somewhere, as if displeased with Yang Yan's swift submission.
"I actually hope you can develop your own independent thoughts," Su Lin said gently, looking at the Three Yangs:
"Yang Jian is still underage, but if either of you have grievances—or criticisms of the Celestial Court's system—speak them plainly."
No sound, only silence and shaking heads.
Pity.
Su Lin, slightly disappointed, shifted his gaze; Yang Erlang and Yang Yan both exhaled in relief.
At that moment, a string of crimson fireworks appeared outside the window, flashing across New York's sky—only then did Su Lin send Yang Jian, who would one day become Yang Erlang, to prepare Yang Yan, Yang Erlang's reincarnation, to summon the Immortal Realm's Yang Erlang.
"So what do you intend to do?" Su Lin asked, watching the fireworks.
"Your Majesty, please understand," Yang Erlang said, taking a deep breath:
"I believe many domain-devouring demons tied to us by karmic bonds still linger in this universe. I humbly beg Your Majesty to grant me command of all celestial deities, heavenly soldiers, and generals to apprehend these scourges of the Three Realms."
An expected answer.
A man whose dog was killed, speaking such words in the Continental Hotel—Su Lin was unsurprised, even found it perfectly reasonable.
"Karmic bonds…" Su Lin murmured, as if whispering to himself.
Yang Erlang said nothing, only stood with bowed hands.
"Come to think of it, this reincarnation space has a great deal of karmic connection to me—even though these bonds weren't originally mine, and had little to do with me at first."
Su Lin suddenly laughed.
"From the perspective of an observer, the reincarnators are merely pawns. Some kill for survival during missions, and they have their own reasons."
"Had I been merely a reincarnator, I might well have done the same to ensure mission completion."
Yang Erlang offered no reply, showed no emotional reaction—simply let Su Lin speak in silence.
"So today, disregarding good and evil, morality—let's simply apply the law of the jungle," Su Lin said, looking at the man on the floor: "You've already made your peace with this, haven't you?"
The restriction had been lifted at some point; the man, stiff and trembling, slowly raised his head, eyes filled with dead ash.
"You are Lord Haotian… the Multiverse Devourer… is that true?"
"It can be."
The man swallowed hard, then fell silent, resigned, waiting for whatever was to come—
Thud.
A chain of karmic law shattered the void, ejecting three unconscious reincarnators from a narrow fissure.
The man's face instantly turned pale as he stared in disbelief at one of the elegant women.
She was their team's captain, the only reincarnator with authority to abandon the mission and return.
"I'm waiting for the Box of All Causes to open—what are you waiting for?"
Several white dots were pulled from the bodies of these reincarnators; Su Lin gripped the Azure Fragment in his hand and said:
"Send this to that ox. This universe is larger than you imagine—you lack the ability to find all reincarnators across infinite timelines."
"The Three Realms also have no spare hands to support your prolonged revenge."
Yang Jian fell silent for a moment, then raised his hand and summoned several reincarnators away: "By your command."
He turned to leave, his hand just touching the doorknob when a question came from behind.
"Which saints or semi-saints in the Underworld have already died for love—or are about to—but haven't yet entered reincarnation?"
"Dong Huang, Ten Shamans, Di Jun, Tian Wu, Jie Yin, Zhu Rong, Gong Gong."
Yang Jian thought of the "threat letters" he'd recently received and the list of "films" soon to be completed by the Three Yuan Nine Offices, then turned and answered.
"Keep Zhu Rong and Gong Gong. Bring the other saintly remnants in the Underworld here." Su Lin paused, then said:
"Let Tai Bai Taibai Jinxing remain to maintain the minimum staff needed to sustain the Three Realms, and the Array of Severing Heaven and Earth."
"Yang Jian, I accept the order." Yang Jian clenched his fist, gazed at the figure admiring the fireworks, then slowly relaxed and smiled:
"I sense you've gained some unique hobbies and humanity—but nothing else has changed."
Su Lin waved his hand in a shooing motion.
After Yang Jian left, Su Lin remained in the room for a long time, until a faint line of dawn appeared on the horizon, when he rose from the sofa.
After serving as God for so long, even I sometimes want to change jobs—like wondering what Hun Tian Di would do right now.
Su Lin held a blank ancient tome, its surface flowing with the shadow of the River of Time and Eternity, its aura lofty and distant, and said:
"It's time to deploy an unexpected force."
His figure vanished. Until then, no one had spoken—but Luo Xiaoying, who had been guided in cultivation on two other sofas, turned to Fa La.
"I regret it."
"What did you say?" Fa La, flipping through a book, hadn't heard.
"I said I regret it!" Luo Xiaoying glanced at the spot where Su Lin had disappeared and muttered:
"I should've listened to the old woman."
"Avengers, assemble!"
Su Lin raised Mjolnir and held up the Vibranium Shield, shouting.
The Avengers and S. H. I. E. L. D. agents stared at him with strange expressions, looking at the piles of pizza boxes near him, utterly confused.
"Thanks, Steve. I've always wanted to do this."
Su Lin set down the Vibranium Shield and returned Mjolnir to Thor, deciding to have Weigong Shilang replenish the guild and sect's weapon inventory in a few days.
"As long as you're happy," Steve smiled. "So today you came here to…"
"Don't use honorifics. I'm one of the Avengers too—we're partners." Su Lin glanced curiously at the bald egg far away and asked:
"What's wrong with Fury today? Doesn't he like pizza?"
"Maybe because you didn't invite him to the movie the day before yesterday," Thor said, licking his fingers as he stuffed a cheese-and-salami pizza into his mouth:
"This flavor and skill? Clearly made by a Cooking God."
"I didn't want it this way, but you know—according to our Xiling Empire's records of multiversal history, he's messed up plenty of good intentions."
Su Lin, while redefining Thanksgiving, called out to other agents:
"I specially asked him to make a hundred portions. Don't be polite—consider it Thanksgiving. After all, the Native Americans can't voice objections."
"So you're not the real God?" Steve couldn't resist grabbing a slice of pizza and pressing.
"I hold a Cosmic Creation License. Certified and on the job, and I'm a multi-degree graduate," Su Lin said solemnly.
How could such an utterly sci-fi claim be real?
Realizing the topic might be derailed, Steve glanced at Nick Fury nearby and asked again:
"So today, you brought all this food to…"
"To celebrate Madoka's birthday."
In the man's exasperated expression, Su Lin smiled slightly and added: "Also, to talk with you about the recent group of reincarnators."
Nick Fury spoke: "Follow me."
He walked toward an office, snatching a pizza from an agent's hand along the way.
Watching the two leave, Thor carried a pizza to the window of the isolation observation room and shook his head at Loki inside, then began chewing with exaggerated flair.
"This is one reason I always wanted to kill this Bai Chi."
Loki, facing away from Su Lin, who was eating pizza behind him, said: "If this guy became king of Asgard, it would be a direct insult to my intelligence."
"Have you ever considered turning him into a girl? That'd be a cute twist—you two could have a child, and Odin wouldn't worry about the Wang Wei succession anymore," Su Lin remarked dryly.
"Would you fall for a monkey that shoots lightning?" Loki turned, thumb pointing at Thor, who was choking on pizza and struggling.
"Alright, I shouldn't have insulted you, Laoji." Su Lin shook his head—he too found it hard to watch Thor, who was rapidly evolving into a clownish character.
"Why did you come to see me?" Loki pulled out a comic, flipped through it, and ate the takeout Su Lin had sent while lying on the bed:
"I've been fired now. People leave, tea grows cold. If you face something you can't handle, I can't help—you're stuck here playing social apps."
"That first Azure, this idiot as bad as Thor—I used to wonder what good it did him. Now I get it—he's taken to making movies too."
"You've seen those things? One day, I'll join the concept of 'Loki' too."
They were a collection of histories, remnants of timelines, a horde of philosophical zombies.
"So if you're going to devour this universe, please hurry up."
Loki put down the comic and offered a sly, ingratiating smile: "So you know—Hiddleston's salary isn't high. I wouldn't mind switching locations to play the Joker."
"A circus?" Su Lin shrugged and said:
"Actually, I want you to put your remaining energy to use—the Chronos Tree opposite is eroding this universe, symbolizing the Celestial Annals."
"I know that," Loki said, spreading his hands. "Isn't that good for you?"
What the hell is this guy even doing?
"I need you to find a way back to your position, investigate some matters, and by the way check whether these reincarnators are in this universe."
Su Lin threw out the Heaven Emperor's Scroll, its surface rippling with the phantom flow of the River of Time and Ages, recording every reboot of the Myriad Worlds.
"Are you joking?"
Loki shook his head helplessly and said:
"I can't even actively find my old boss who fired me. I admit I'm unusual now—the most unusual Loki of all—but I'm not the God of Stories."
"Then become the God of Stories again," Su Lin said casually.
Loki froze, his mouth slightly open, his eyebrows slowly rising, his hands uncertainly pointing at Su Lin, then making circular gestures.
As if asking: 'Are you insane?'
"You wouldn't mind strengthening yourself beyond your own story, would you?" Su Lin asked.
Loki nodded with interest, tilting his head. "How?"
Upon receiving the reply, Su Lin pulled out a Ten-Thousand Realms Communion Token and sent several messages.
Moments later.
A figure with a masked face, one with a monocle, and one with a die for a head—all raised their hands in unison at a forty-five-degree angle in salute:
"My Lord Bishop!"
"My Mentor!"
"Boss Tianfu!"
"The Association of the Foolish Ones Who Forget, in attendance! May Light Eternal Reign!"
