Chapter 2815: All I Want Is a Way Out! I Already Gave You One!
And the one who naturally bears this karmic consequence is Wang Canghai; Zhang Lin had long since planned all of this out.
As for Mr. Wang's side, Zhang Lin likewise had to make the man understand what he ought to do.
And the next step was absolutely not to sit quietly and wait, but to strike proactively, and then find the path that suited him best.
The next moment Zhang Lin could not help saying: "Actually, the issue you're wrestling with in your heart right now, I understand it perfectly. No matter what promises I make you, of course you'll feel reassured, but you're still afraid the authorities will come around to settle the score later, or rather, once this matter is finished, you won't be able to get what you want."
Zhang Lin had now laid things out so bluntly they could not be any blunter, and even Mr. Wang himself drew a sharp breath; he had never imagined Zhang Lin would speak like this — in his view, this was not logical.
Because Zhang Lin was leading him along step by step, drawing out the words he himself wanted to hear — or rather, Mr. Wang clearly knew Zhang Lin was deliberately digging a pit for him, yet had no choice but to jump into it; both men understood this perfectly well.
It had been this way from the very start, and at the beginning Mr. Wang had originally wanted to use his little cleverness to play some tricks on Zhang Lin, but he gave that up very quickly.
Mr. Wang also understood that no matter how he tried to play these petty mind games with Zhang Lin, it ultimately had no practical value whatsoever.
If this displeased Zhang Lin, or even caused him to detect that Mr. Wang harbored such ulterior motives — regardless of whether Mr. Wang truly had those ill intentions or not — once Zhang Lin noticed, there was no telling what he might do; this, Mr. Wang understood better than anyone.
Given that, Mr. Wang absolutely would not cling to such foolish notions and carry on; on the contrary, he had to do his utmost to curry favor with Zhang Lin, rather than let Zhang Lin rebuke him in this manner.
Right now, the words Zhang Lin spoke were certainly still pleasant to hear, or rather delivered in a composed, conciliatory posture meant to persuade him — but Mr. Wang was very well aware that once Zhang Lin truly flared up, no one could hold him back, and by then it would be far too late.
So the next moment Mr. Wang drew a deep breath, then slowly began to speak: "Mr. Zhang, you need not mock me. Some things I understand better than anyone. Your caution is right, but my caution is not wrong either. Discussing these now seems to have no meaning at all — all I want is simply to give the Wang family a way out."
At this point, Mr. Wang's tone paused; clearly his words were not yet finished, but at this moment he also realized that continuing to bring up those things would serve no purpose whatsoever.
The things that needed saying were nearly all said; what followed would be nothing but complaints. In fact, if Mr. Wang continued, it would be about the contest between Zhang Lin and Wang Canghai, and about everything Wang was watching, as well as what Zhang Lin's subsequent arrangements would actually be.
Mr. Wang wanted to directly tell the other man his own guesses, but after much thought he still held back his words, because he realized that sometimes appearing too clever was not the best way to respond — or rather, being a bit duller was the better choice.
This was the difference between reality and ideal producing different outcomes, and no matter which of these outcomes came to pass, Mr. Wang had to silently bear it.
