Chapter 5: Triggering the Plot

~7 min read 1,324 words

There were only five people left, namely Li You and his two brothers—Liu Chuang and Zhao Xi—plus a lone savage who called himself Viktor. As for the excited Ye Jiaxin, she named herself Luolita, saying she did it to fit the whole game.

The group walked excitedly toward the castle; it was so dark that no one could see clearly, but they actually managed to stumble upon the castle gate.

"Someone's there." Liu Chuang and Zhao Xi grabbed the three people walking in front, "See that? There are a few guards."

"Then there must be something wrong with this castle; let's go in and take a look." Li You had played quite a few games and could be considered a very experienced person, "Let's go to the back door first and see if there's a way to get around."

"We can climb the wall," Luolita said excitedly, "We can climb over this wall!"

"This must be two meters high, how are we going to climb it?" Li You said, frowning.

"Of course we can." Luolita was eager to try; she quickly approached the wall, stepped on the uneven bricks, and climbed to the top.

"Come over, I'll pull you up." You really couldn't tell, but this girl actually had this kind of ability; however, it saved them from having to find another way, so the male players followed suit and climbed inside the wall.

There were not many people guarding the castle; after all, for Saina, this was just a Nongzhuang, even if it did have a dilapidated castle.

No one in her family knew she worshipped the Evil God, and this was not the place where she performed sacrifices, so there were not many guards.

As for these players, there had been someone watching them when they were first locked in the woodshed, but who would keep an eye on these serfs who had no way out to begin with?

These serfs didn't have the guts to run away either; if they ran off, they weren't sure they could find a place to eat, and Tana City couldn't support these guys who looked like they had no skills.

So after Saina left, these guards left the woodshed and turned to drinking Wine in the castle instead.

The Wine wasn't very good, and after being watered down, the taste was even blander; it could only be said to have some flavor.

As guards of the Farm, the only reason they could drink it was that the master wasn't strict.

"The few serfs who came today are quite sturdy; the young lady finally knows to replenish the manpower, otherwise the autumn harvest work would never be finished."

"It's not just because of what happened a while ago... sigh, better not mention it, we should still praise the sun." One guard said carelessly, while those around him showed worried expressions.

Not everyone was willing to praise the sun; legend had it that the Sun God offended the Beauty God and was subsequently crusaded against by the Beauty God's suitors, becoming a target for everyone. From then on, the Sun God was also called the God of Bachelors; as long as one still wanted to get a wife, one wouldn't want to believe in the sun.

Not to mention, the followers of the Sun God Cult all had some psychological problems.

Who would openly discuss the Evil God?

Tana City had been completely plunged into disaster a while ago; the black rain falling from the sky had made many people sick. Although the Grain problem on the Farm wasn't major, many people had fallen ill.

Not only that, the several riots in the city were heart-stopping; it was said that several major churches had begun to hunt for the mastermind behind the scenes, and conflicts between them were constant.

Everyone said this was the work of the Evil God; with such a terrifying Evil God, no one dared to speak recklessly, and everyone could only drink their sorrows away.

As for harvesting the Grain, these guards wouldn't do it; that was all the serfs' work.

Even if most of those guys had already died of illness, they still had to harvest the Grain. As for the guards, they were responsible for protecting the safety of the Farm—for example, watching those serfs work and not letting them steal things.

"There shouldn't be any more items around here; I just pried open a few rooms and there was nothing." Luolita walked to Li You's side on tiptoe, "How about we finish off those drunkards?"

"Don't, wait a little longer and they'll all be asleep." Looking at the machete in his hand, Li You hesitated. Although fighting monsters in a game was normal, this game was made too realistically; if he really ended someone with one slash, he wasn't sure his psyche could handle it.

Luolita, who was also holding a machete, nodded as well. It wasn't just that she couldn't bring herself to do it; she felt she might not have the ability to do so either.

Fighting monsters in a game and committing murder in reality were still a bit different.

Not to mention that these NPCs hadn't provoked anyone; those who had received nine years of compulsory education couldn't immediately shift into a murderous mindset.

The group waited for a while, and the NPCs indeed got too drunk and passed out, so they tiptoed upstairs.

"This isn't right, could it be that there are no quests here?" Although it was called a castle, because it was part of the Nongzhuang, this ancient building had long since ceased to be inhabited by nobles.

Most of the rooms on the second floor were empty, and there were a few storerooms, though some rooms did have people sleeping in them.

Even the butler who managed the estate had already gone to sleep early, and it looked like there was nothing unusual at all.

Could it be that the quest was with the serfs?

The five people wandered around the castle in confusion, and Luolita couldn't help but say, "Shall we try to trigger the plot?"

"Who's there?" Hearing the commotion, the butler climbed out of bed, holding an oil lamp and looking into the hallway.

Seeing a few people holding long sticks and machetes, the butler immediately felt that something was wrong. He dropped the oil lamp, locked the door, and shouted loudly, "Come here! Thieves have broken in! Come here! You damn skunks, what time is it to still be drinking and sleeping!"

The butler's voice was exceptionally loud, and a chaotic sound came from downstairs. The players immediately became alert, preparing to face the enemy.

Sure enough, the quest had arrived!

The players were extremely excited, and Luolita even waved the machete in her hand, hoping to be the first to take a head.

She could even feel her own heartbeat; thanks to the realistic environment, she felt her adrenaline surging!

The commotion in the castle could not disturb the soundly sleeping serfs. Because of the black rain, many serfs on the Farm had lost their lives due to illness, and the remaining guys had worked for more than fourteen hours during the day and were already exhausted.

So snoring filled the thatched huts.

"This game is really something, it doesn't even give a quest interface; I have no idea what I'm supposed to do. It is quite realistic, though, as if I've started a second life." Li Yong was just making small talk; what was more interesting than playing games than chatting up female players? Not to mention there were two female players this time.

"But this is a bit too real; I've never walked on such a dark road." The female player named Mengmeng gripped the stick in her hand, "Could this game be a horror game? Looking at the introduction and the cutscenes, it does seem to be a horror style."
