Chapter 53: A Belated Apology
When Evans emerged from the Sewers, he still felt a sense of having survived a disaster.
He had originally thought the God of Calamity would interrogate him like a prisoner, or demand he do things for him and become his Believer.
He did not expect this deity to be surprisingly easy to talk to.
It was as if he were not an Evil God.
He did not even make Evans help him get a ticket to a party; he just pondered for a moment and let him leave.
The corners of his mouth twitched, and then he turned out of the alley; just as he stepped out, he was stopped by the guards.
"I didn't see anyone go in just now, where did you come from?" the guard frowned as he looked at Evans, "This is near the Municipal Building."
It was the first time Evans had been stopped, so he hurriedly explained, "I am the head butler for Miss Saina Jones, and I was preparing to go over to report some matters to her."
"Miss Jones? Remember for next time, you can't just take shortcuts; the rats in the Sewers have been increasing lately, and the guards are conducting a cleanup."
"I understand, may I go now?" Evans continued.
"I need to see some identification." The guard remained somewhat suspicious, especially since there was an unreasonable smell on the other party.
No matter how cleanly the Sewers were cleared, if there was a smell, there was a smell.
So it was normal for the guard to stop him.
Evans helplessly handed his identification to the other party, and only then did he hurry away.
The area near the Municipal Building had been too strict lately; he should have gone out through the exit Saina gave him, and he didn't know why, but he had ghost-like, impulsively come out of this exit.
Immediately afterward, he entered the Municipal Building again.
Inside the Municipal Building, he was subjected to questioning once more.
"How did the talk go?" As soon as Evans entered the door, Saina asked nervously.
At the same time, the hand holding the coffee cup shook.
A cup of hot coffee splashed directly onto Evans, scalding him until he grimaced.
"What is going on!" Evans said with cold sweat on his back, "I only went to see the Lord of Calamity once, and I encountered so many unlucky things."
Saina hurriedly took out a handkerchief to wipe Evans off.
"I'm sorry, I was just too nervous; I was very afraid of what the Lord of Calamity might do to you," Saina said worriedly.
"You don't need to be afraid anymore, He has already done something to me," Evans complained, "I should have guessed it; He said I was very lucky."
Saina was speechless; to others, saying this would be a comfort.
But for the Lord of Calamity, saying this was no different from a Curse.
"I can ask Him to retract that statement," Saina said apologetically, "I wonder what He wanted with you?"
"You guessed right, I think He wants to do something, but not right now," Evans said, "I think you should perform well in front of Him; there are some things He does not wish to tell you."
It could be said that Evans felt Saina's level of trust with the Lord of Calamity was not high.
Even that Susan might be more important than Saina.
Damn it, he was the one who captured that Susan and sent her to the Lord of Calamity.
Who knew what she would say? What if it was detrimental to him?
Chen Zhi did not know that his one sentence had bestowed a blessing upon someone else; he thought for a moment and said to Susan, "I will have someone call Yezi over; you need to tell her a task."
"Me?" Susan had seen Yezi in the Sewers, but she had always avoided her.
After all, she had killed Yezi's good friend; she had no face to see her, and every time she thought of this matter, she was filled with guilt.
It was no wonder Yezi would believe in such a deity.
"Yes, you give her a task; let her find a way to sneak into the Shooting Club next door. Although her language skills aren't very good, she can listen. I need her to learn more about the underground transactions," Chen Zhi instructed Susan.
Let me go and communicate with Yezi?
Susan had a look of shame on her face, but if this was the task of the Lord of Calamity, she had to complete it.
Some things always have to be faced; if the other party wanted her life, she could compensate them with it.
After all, she was the one who did the wrong thing.
Chen Zhi had originally intended for Susan to go find Yezi directly, but thinking that most people in the Theater knew Susan, he finally decided to send a summoning prompt to Yezi himself and let her come over on her own.
Having finished a dance, Yezi was covered in sweat; she had more and more audience members lately, and Emond even told her that he would let her participate in noble balls later.
By then she would meet many high-society figures in Tana City, and he also told her that she must keep her original intention and not be dazzled by the glitz and glamour.
Yezi would not do anything stupid; compared to the modern era, Tana City couldn't even compare to a small county town, and even if they were nobles, their lives couldn't be considered luxurious compared to the modern era.
Especially Tana City; the most beautiful manor castle here couldn't compare to a modern office building.
It was said that in the interior, near the capital, the castles there were the most beautiful and luxurious.
Waving her hand, Yezi politely declined Emond's invitation to go eat together, and then pointed to Ai Ai on the side.
Recently, Ai Ai had become her assistant.
Not just for posters, but also doing some odd jobs; because the pay was not low, Ai Ai was doing quite well.
She could even listen to more gossip, after all, they were in a Theater.
Ai Ai was still looking forward to another witch incident, so she could learn more about the Transcendental Power of this world.
But she waited for several days and there was none.
The two soon arrived at the sewer entrance; this was the sewer closest to them, and seeing no one around, the two girls quickly slipped inside.
Seeing Yezi again, Susan's face was full of guilt.
She could not look down on these ordinary people because she had awakened; in fact, because she had awakened, she wished she were just an ordinary person.
Otherwise, she would not have been found by the Witch Organization.
"I'm sorry, Yezi, it was I who killed Emily," Susan said straight to the point, "I should have apologized to you earlier; if you need compensation, you can look for me, I will not fight back."
Yezi didn't know what to say, so she looked up at the Lord of Calamity.
Susan immediately rushed over and stopped her.
"Do not look directly at the god!" Susan said nervously.
But Yezi looked anyway, and she did not die.
Chen Zhi had no choice but to drop the act, and instead said directly to Susan: "She tells you not to worry; you have already received the punishment you deserve. As long as I do not leave the Sewers for a day, do not even think about seeing the sun on the land."
"I shall strictly obey your holy decree," Susan said, trembling.
She did not know if she was more afraid of Yezi, who was capable of looking directly at a deity.
Or if she was more afraid of never seeing the sun outside for the rest of her life.
He still ignores me, and I don't even know if he went to the hospital for treatment.
His family cannot be contacted either.
And I also know that even if they were contacted, his family might not necessarily tell the truth.
Because some people just won't talk; it is reasonable for someone like him to resent having this illness so much, I suppose.
Even with my eyes closed, I can see him using characters that are nearly garbled code to tell me that he has nothing but his mental illness... telling me not to wait for him, telling me to start over...
I am very worried about him, yet I am powerless; I truly hope he can get better and report his safety to me. I cannot sleep well every day, fearing that something might happen to him.
Even if it is just a friendship, one should still show concern, right?
So I really cannot produce an extra update; I hope to save up some drafts when my emotions are a bit better after some time.
If he would just acknowledge me, I will add an extra ten-thousand-word update!
