Chapter 270: Passing the Thunder Tribulation
Meng Yifan patted Meng Shuangdao on the shoulder and comforted him, "Don't be afraid, I am here."
Meng Shuangdao nodded, then leaped onto a small mound in the Valley. He released the cultivation base he had been suppressing, and a black-red mist began to diffuse from his body. His cultivation fluctuations rose steadily, instantly elevating to Third Grade Peak.
"Awoo!" Meng Shuangdao raised his head toward Heaven and let out a roar. This was his declaration of war against the Heavenly Dao, an attempt to defy Heaven and change his fate, to move from death toward life, and to fight for the glimmer of survival that belonged to a Zombie.
"Boom—!" The previously clear sky was suddenly covered in dark clouds, and a fierce wind began to howl. The rolling sound of thunder was deafening, as if it were the roar of the Heavenly Dao itself.
Dust returns to dust, earth returns to earth; where there is life there is death, and only with death can there be life. This is a part of the cycle of Heaven and Earth.
After the living beings of the Great Wu Heavenly Dynasty die, their souls scatter, merging into Heaven and Earth. This is the rule by which Heaven and Earth operate.
Yet, dead things like Zombies should not exist between Heaven and Earth. They are destroyers of the rules of Heaven and Earth, so the rules have set layer upon layer of tribulations for them, using the power of Thunder Tribulation to strike them until they are reduced to ashes.
An invisible pressure descended from the sky, shrouding Meng Shuangdao's body, attempting to force him to his knees.
If Meng Shuangdao knelt, the dark clouds in the sky would disperse, and the Thunder Tribulation would not strike down; however, from that moment on, Meng Shuangdao would never again have the chance to advance to a Fourth Grade Zombie.
"Roar!" Meng Shuangdao straightened his spine, raised his two long blades, and slashed fiercely toward the sky. The dazzling blade light tore through space, representing his unyielding heart as he declared war on Heaven.
"Boom! Crack!" The Heavenly Dao seemed to be enraged. As the dark clouds churned, a purple bolt of Thunder Element Demon Power as thick as an arm, accompanied by rolling thunder, descended from the sky with majestic momentum, striking toward the top of Meng Shuangdao's head, intending to smash him into powder.
"Fight!" Meng Shuangdao let out an angry roar. A crack appeared on the Nether Fire Lotus bud on his body, and a wisp of black-red Nine Nether Flame flew out, then split in two. A layer of black appeared on the left-hand blade, freezing into layers of frost, while a layer of red emerged on the right-hand blade, emitting scorching flames.
"Break for me!" Meng Shuangdao shouted loudly, and the two long blades swung out violently, hacking toward the Thunder descending from the sky.
"Boom!" The Thunder Tribulation and the long blades collided. In an instant, the wind and clouds changed color. At the core of the collision, a ring-shaped shockwave expanded outward. Even though Meng Yifan and the others were standing over a hundred meters away, their hair was still blown into a mess, and Meng Da, Meng Er, Liu Sheng, Shen Dahu, Kong Sanqiang, and the others were blown back five or six steps in a row.
Meng Yifan and Lang Jiao did not retreat, but they felt a fatal threat from this shockwave. Even though the two of them were already Fourth-Grade Powerhouses, if they had to take this Thunder strike head-on, they would still have to take it seriously. Meng Shuangdao was only at Third Grade Peak; could he withstand the Thunder Tribulation?
Thunder, black flames, and red flames collided and annihilated one another, and the surrounding void fluctuated in response. The scene was shocking to behold; this was the power of the Thunder Tribulation.
Even for the lowest-level First Grade Heavenly Tribulation, and even for the very first bolt of that First Grade Heavenly Tribulation, the power was this terrifying.
In terms of destructive power, it was at least comparable to the full-force strike of a Fourth Grade Mid-stage expert. It was no wonder that the success rate for Zombie-type beings to pass the tribulation was less than one in ten; such violent Thunder strikes were simply impossible for ordinary Zombies to withstand.
Meng Shuangdao used his twin blades to shatter the Thunder, but the shattered Thunder followed the blades onto his body. At this moment, his body was shrouded in a layer of electric light, and every part of him was being eroded by the Thunder, instantly turning charred black and lacerated.
Fortunately, Meng Shuangdao had already used high-voltage electricity to modify his body in advance, giving him a certain degree of adaptability to Thunder; otherwise, this first Thunder Tribulation could have left him dead or severely injured.
The first bolt of Thunder dissipated. Meng Shuangdao still stood tall, looking proudly at the firmament, preparing to take the second bolt of Thunder head-on.
Seeing Meng Shuangdao survive the first Thunder strike, Liu Sheng, Shen Dahu, and the others cheered, but Meng Yifan's expression was grave. His mind was connected to Meng Shuangdao's, and he could sense that Meng Shuangdao was already injured inside. He hadn't expected that despite such thorough preparation, he would still be injured by the first Thunder Tribulation.
A First Grade Heavenly Tribulation consisted of three bolts of Thunder, each more powerful than the last. Meng Shuangdao was already injured by the first bolt; how could he withstand the two more powerful bolts that followed? Could it be that even after absorbing Nine Nether Evil Qi and Demon Essence Liquid, and having undergone prior modification with high-voltage electricity, he was still destined to perish under the Thunder?
The dark clouds in the sky churned, and the power of Thunder from all directions gathered into the clouds. Bolts of tiny Thunder flickered in and out of sight within the clouds, constantly merging and fusing into a Thunder Tribulation of astonishing power.
One minute later, the second Thunder Tribulation took shape. With a loud "Boom-crack," a purple bolt of Thunder as thick as a thigh flew out from the dark clouds.
This purple Thunder twisted and turned like a purple divine dragon, connecting Heaven and Earth, representing the will of the Heavenly Dao to destroy Meng Shuangdao, who should not have existed in the human world.
"This is bad. The destructive power of this Thunder is comparable to the full-force strike of a Fourth Grade Peak powerhouse." Meng Yifan's expression changed drastically. He felt a huge crisis from this Thunder; even if he were to go up and block it, there would be a risk of perishing.
Meng Shuangdao was a Zombie Body by nature and was countered by Thunder. Coupled with his strength being only at Third Grade Peak, there was a high probability he would be completely obliterated, body and soul, under this heaven-shaking Thunder.
"Fight!" At this critical moment, Meng Shuangdao did not give up. He roared, and his two long blades converged. The black flames and red flames fused together, forming the black-red Nine Nether Flame.
This Nether Fire, only the size of a thumb, swayed in the wind and seemed as if it could be extinguished at any moment. Compared to the purple Thunder that connected Heaven and Earth, it appeared insignificant.
Yet, the moment this weak little flame collided with the purple Thunder, it suddenly surged, becoming a massive phantom of a fire lotus the size of a millstone, swaying in the wind and shining brilliantly as it collided fiercely with the purple Thunder.
The Thunder was mighty, and the flames were ferocious.
The two energies with immense destructive power collided with each other, erupting with an earth-shattering roar.
"Boom! Boom! Boom!" The loud sounds echoed throughout the entire Valley. Shen Dahu, Liu Sheng, and the others lacked sufficient strength and were left dizzy and disoriented by the shock, their ears bleeding, swaying as if they might collapse.
Meng Yifan was quick-witted and fast-handed; he threw them all out of the Valley. With their cultivation, if they continued to stay there, they would likely be severely injured.
After about the time of a single breath, the Nine Nether Flame had not fully formed and was only a fire lotus phantom with limited energy. After colliding for a while, its energy was exhausted and it completely annihilated, but the purple Thunder also dissipated by more than half, and the remaining Thunder struck Meng Shuangdao's body.
