Chapter 14: Land of Monsters and Dragons
Time slowly passed, and in the blink of an eye, more than ten days had gone by.
The severely injured, sleeping dragon mother finally woke up.
The huge black dragon stood before the three young dragons, opened its maw, and sucked all the scattered treasures into its belly.
Lai Ang glanced at the dragon mother's already scabbed wound, and he, Ai Di, and Sai Jia waited quietly for orders.
"Let's go." Xi Er Wa Na Si glanced back at the dim dragon nest, felt no reluctance, and led the way toward the cave entrance.
The three young dragons followed closely behind their mother.
Above the vast Dark Swamp Forest, a massive black dragon covered in scars flew across the horizon.
A single flap of its wings carried it a hundred meters away.
On the black dragon's back, the three young dragons lowered their heads to gaze at the endless forest below, then lifted them to behold the blue sky and sea of clouds, their hearts surging with excitement.
"Is this my first flight experience?" Lai Ang felt the free air outside, took a deep breath, and the dragon became utterly intoxicated.
A giant dragon's flight does not rely on its wings, or not entirely on them. It flies by means of the innate spell-like art "Levitation Technique," while its wings mainly serve to balance and accelerate.
In the hatchling stage, the spell-like Levitation Technique may not yet be awakened.
Of course, this does not mean hatchlings cannot fly; they are simply slower and consume more stamina.
"Mother, where is our destination?"
Ai Di spoke up to ask.
Lai Ang and Sai Jia looked over, they too were curious, not knowing where their new home would be.
The black dragon beneath them heard its offspring's question, organized its thoughts, then said, "To the Emerald Dream."
Emerald Dream?
Where is that?
The three young dragons were somewhat confused; although the dragon's inheritance information contained much knowledge of this world and would automatically surface relevant knowledge when the dragon was perplexed,
but this is also limited.
The younger the age, the less knowledge one gains from the inheritance. —This is also a protection for young, weak dragons.
Seeing that the three children did not know where the Emerald Dream was, Xi Er Wa Na Si gave a soft smile and spoke to clear up their confusion: "The Emerald Dream is a nation built by the Green Dragon Queen Ysera; this queen is a giant dragon that has entered the Holy Realm, perhaps thousands of years ago, or even earlier, and she came to dwell in the Dark Swamp Forest."
As time passed, rumors spread in the Dark Swamp Forest of a solitary, powerful green dragon; some weak monster tribes were drawn to it, praying for the dragon's protection. Then, over the long passage of time, the Emerald Dream, a nation of dragons and monsters, was established.
Even though Xi Er Wa Na Si merely gave a simple account of the Green Dragon Queen Ysera's story, the three young dragons listened, entranced, and felt a yearning.
"That is a Holy Realm giant dragon with endless lifespan!" Ai Di marveled, filled with longing.
Sai Jia's eyes burned with fierce fighting spirit; he let out a light snort and declared arrogantly, "One day, I, Sai Jia, will reach the Holy Realm and establish a monster nation even greater than the Emerald Dream!"
Lai Ang glanced at Sai Jia, feeling no contempt or mockery toward his words.
He himself actually looked forward to it as well.
Those who cross into the Holy Realm gain eternal life.
This saying, even in the dragon's inheritance, is quite prominent.
Because generation after generation of dragons that have left behind inheritances mostly feel longing and unwillingness toward this realm.
Even for a dragon already at the top of the food chain, aspiring to enter the Holy Realm is extremely difficult.
The vast majority of dragons ultimately stop short of the ninth‑stage peak, and then, as time flows, their bodies gradually decay and they meet death.
"Holy Realm eternal life, spirits undying." Lai Ang's dragon eyes glimmered with a hint of yearning; he did not know whether he would ever reach that state one day.
As if sensing the passionate, surging hearts of the three hatchlings on its back, the dragon mother flicked its wings and sped up once more.
Half a day later, dusk arrived.
A towering wooden wall a hundred meters high appeared before the eyes of the four black dragons.
The mottled, heavy wooden wall seemed to have undergone the baptism of millions of years.
Lai Ang even saw monster guards patrolling the wall.
Hyena‑people, saber‑toothed beasts, snake‑people; moreover, they appeared of high quality and were not overly lazy.
A voice entered Xi Er Wa Na Si's mind; the black dragon's body paused slightly, then it slowly descended toward a corner of the great wall.
When the monster guards saw the black dragon's arrival, they were initially extremely wary, for this black dragon's aura was utterly unfamiliar.
But soon their expressions calmed, evidently having learned something.
Boom.
Xi Er Wa Na Si landed on the broad great wall, and with a casual flap of its wings, it set down the three young dragons on its back.
In the distance, a figure flashed by and, in an instant, arrived before Xi Er Wa Na Si and halted.
The comer was precisely the Dragon Fang Soldier who had previously teamed up with Xi Er Wa Na Si to slay a powerful human.
"Let me introduce myself; my name is Tabares, and I am the captain of the Queen's personal Dragon Fang Guard Squad."
Lai Ang eyed the sturdy draconic figure before him, standing over three meters tall; the faint life aura emanating from it was immensely oppressive, making Lai Ang feel that it was hardly inferior to the dragon mother.
This made Lai Ang secretly startled.
Indeed, the Emerald Dream truly teems with powerful beings.
Just any strong one that shows up could almost rival the dragon mother.
It seems that here one must be cautious; in fact, their mother Xi Er Wa Na Si had already told them along the way that, living here, they should not casually provoke enemies.
Although in the Emerald Dream dragons hold the highest rank, this is after all a nation of monsters and dragons, and evidently neither monsters nor dragons are easy to deal with.
If one is weak, one must keep a low profile here.
"Tabares, these are my three children," Xi Er Wa Na Si said.
The Dragon Fang Soldier Tabares gazed at Lai Ang and the three young dragons; his rough face, covered in fine dragon scales, broke into a genuine smile,
"Rest assured, Lady Xi Er Wa Na Si; Her Majesty the Queen not only welcomes the arrival of the giant dragon, but also these adorable little dragons. These three little ones will receive the finest care and growth in the Emerald Dream.
Within the bounds of the rules set by Her Majesty the Queen, no being dares to harm them, so you need not worry."
Xi Er Wa Na Si nodded slightly.
It also knows this; if it weren't for the fact that the Emerald Dream is an orderly existing country, it would not have contacted the other party.
"I don't know whether this is good or bad," Xi Er Wa Na Si thought to herself.
Originally, it had no intention of joining any faction.
But as it was constantly hunted by the Human Dragon Slayer Organization, and burdened by Lai Ang and its three little dragons, after a period of hesitation, Xi Er Wa Na Si eventually sought out the Emerald Dream.
And the Emerald Dream naturally welcomed the allegiance of an adult black dragon.
In this world, probably not many factions would refuse the voluntary allegiance of an adult giant dragon.
