Chapter 38: The Taste of Dragon Meat

~7 min read 1,371 words

Inside the Blue Dragon Fortress.

Seven or eight blue dragons surrounded Sai Jia and Pana in the clearing, their dragon eyes full of mockery.

If Sai Jia or Pana showed any sign of resistance, a blue dragon would spew lightning, electrocuting the two young dragons until they smoked and their bodies went numb.

Over six meters long, with muscles smooth beneath its azure scales, the leader of the Blue Dragon Fortress, Wadezi, watched this farce before him, a pleased glint flashing in his dragon eyes.

"That Sas guy suppressing me is bad enough, but even the black and white dragons dare to act so arrogantly." The blue dragon leader snorted coldly.

Sas is the name of the Red Dragon Fortress's leader.

He is also, after the mixed-blood young dragon Keleimo graduated, the strongest young dragon who defeated all other young dragons and ascended the throne.

Although he was about to graduate and leave the Emerald Academy imminently, during this time before his departure he had already thrown his weight around, and moreover he had received resources bestowed by the academy.

Thinking of the precious resources the academy had bestowed upon the Red Dragon Fortress's leader Sas, the Blue Dragon Fortress's leader Wadezi felt his jealousy grow ever stronger.

He turned his gaze back to the clearing, where the black and white dragons were being toyed with by the blue dragons, his dragon eyes filled with vengeful malice as he growled,

"Tear off their dragon wings! I want all the dragons to know that besides Sas, no dragon can defy me!"

"Now there is!!"

A black shadow swooped down from the sky, and reaching even faster than the shadow was dragon breath.

The verdant dragon breath almost covered half the field, enveloping Sai Jia and Pana as well.

Seeing this, the blue dragons instinctively flapped their wings and fled in panic.

The acid dragon breath fell. But the few blue dragons slower to escape, enveloped by the acid, discovered that this acid dragon breath's power was actually not strong—it just looked extravagant, all show and no substance.

Like a jet of black steel cast, the black dragon landed with a bang before Sai Jia and Pana.

Lai Ang turned his head and glanced at the two; seeing they were merely numbed by the blue dragons' lightning breath and otherwise unharmed, his mood improved a little.

The acid dragon breath it had just used hadn't mixed in much magic power, so aside from being a bit wider in range, its power was weak. But Lai Ang's original intention had merely been to drive off those blue dragons circling the two young dragons.

Lai Ang withdrew his gaze from Sai Jia and Pana, turned his head, and looked at the group of blue dragons with cold, indifferent dragon eyes.

"I've never torn off a dragon wing before, but today it looks like I can have a blast doing it."

"What do you mean?" The blue dragon leader Wadezi narrowed his dragon eyes; after the brief surprise passed, he quickly recognized the opponent—

the magic-obsessed hatchling dragon from the Black Dragon Fortress.

No, he should now be considered a young dragon.

But what of it? He's merely a black dragon just entering the young dragon stage; even if he knows a bit of magic, he could never be a match for— a sapphire-blue water sphere appeared above the black dragon's head, and in the black dragon's cold, unfeeling gaze, the sapphire ball turned into a meteor that smashed down upon Wadezi, the blue dragon leader, who had a bad feeling about it.

Boom!!

As if a real meteor had fallen, dust and smoke flew up, and from the smoke came the blue dragon leader's pained howl and furious roar, "Damned black dragon!"

However, Lai Ang couldn't be bothered to listen to his nonsense; surging Third Rank Black Water Battle Qi instantly flowed through his massive dragon body, enhancing every aspect of his black dragon physique.

He also didn't forget to cast the Weak Power Amplification trick on himself, after all it could boost his strength a bit.

At full strength, the black dragon charged into the smoke like a hunting beast, engaging in melee with the blue dragon leader whose size was a full notch larger than his own.

Violent impact sounds and roars came from within.

The surrounding blue dragons gulped, not daring to move for a moment, merely widening their dragon eyes to watch, trying to see through the smoke at the swift and fierce battle.

Another muffled boom rang out; the smoke that had been about to disperse surged again, enveloping the two giant dragons once more.

However, the watching blue dragons sensed something amiss, for they had just heard their leader's pained howl again.

"Should we help?" one blue dragon said hesitantly.

The other blue dragons looked at it as if it were an idiot, causing it to snap its mouth shut.

Forget it, better just watch.

A fight between leaders isn't something they can stick a claw into.

"Roar! Ah!"

Accompanied by a mournful dragon cry, the brief but fierce battle finally came to a stop.

The blue dragons, including Sai Jia and Pana who had recovered from their numbness, now stared fixedly at the gradually dissipating smoke.

All that could be seen was a blue afterimage flying out from within.

"Haha, the leader won, I told you so." The blue dragons, who had been preparing to cheer and celebrate, suddenly fell silent, their dragon eyes filled with terror.

Because they finally realized their leader Wadezi hadn't flown out on his own—he had been hurled and thrown out.

With a bang, the wounded blue dragon leader fell before the blue dragons, panting heavily; he tried to rise, but his injuries were too severe, and he ultimately collapsed to the ground, unable to get up.

Only then did this group of young dragons notice that the blue dragon leader's broad wings on his back had vanished, leaving only two shattered, bloody bone fragments on his spine.

Moreover, on the surface of his dragon body were two blood holes as if a huge drill had been forced through them, through which the internal organs deep inside could faintly be seen rising and falling with his breath, a gruesome sight.

When the smoke had completely cleared, the black dragon had a pair of azure dragon wings clenched in his mouth; after unconsciously chewing a bite, he couldn't help but narrow his dragon eyes.

"So this is what dragon meat tastes like," Lai Ang savored the delicious sensation in his mouth, then regretfully spat out the dragon wing he had been holding.

Though it was tasty and nutritious, eating one's own kind is not a good rumor.

What Lai Ang needed was awe, not fear.

But he apparently hadn't noticed that the dragon wings bore a huge gap that was strikingly obvious.

"Go on, eat it—this definitely was eaten!" the distant blue dragons said, looking at the dragon wing on the ground that appeared to have been taken a big bite out of by some huge beast, their hearts filled with creepy dread.

Lai Ang took a step forward.

The blue dragons retreated in unison by one step.

Lai Ang raised an eyebrow, then took another step forward.

Now the blue dragons' mental defenses collapsed completely; taking along their wingless leader, they fled in panic from the Blue Dragon Fortress.

Lai Ang also didn't give chase; he merely turned his gaze to the already stunned Sai Jia and Pana.

"Let's go, head back."

After the three dragons flew away from the spot, the monster maidservants and attendants remaining inside the Blue Dragon Fortress finally came out, looking at the fierce battle's aftermath—pits and holes everywhere in the clearing, and the shattered azure dragon wings on the ground—while cold sweat poured from their foreheads nonstop.

Such intense battles of this degree haven't occurred in a long time.

Among them, the clever ones have already realized that, likely before long, the Dragon Fortress Plain will undergo a change.

That Black Dragon Prince is growing too fast, too fast; even the former Prince Cremor at the same age might not necessarily be its match.
