Chapter 417: The World That Will Surely Sink!
These are notes left by predecessors inside the chest, written in a multitude of scripts unlike those of this era.
Gao Wen couldn’t understand them, but Robin should be able to decipher them.
Moreover, Gao Wen had a gut feeling that these notes had been left here precisely because those people regarded them as treasures equal to One Piece.
Although many of the materials had rotted away due to their extreme age, numerous usable notes remained.
They might record hidden knowledge, or perhaps some technology far beyond its time, capable of changing the world.
But.
Gao Wen stared at the enormous demon face carved by Joy Boy on the cliff, and felt something about this wasn’t simple at all.
If all that was hidden here were merely these relics left by predecessors, then for Roger, who had arrived here, it would have made more sense to decode these notes and spread them across the entire world rather than betting everything on a new era.
“I’m not seeing the full picture—or is there some necessary condition I’m missing?!”
Gao Wen refused to give up and searched the island again, but found nothing.
He decided not to linger, tossed his teleport coin, stepped through the gate opening in the void, and vanished into the midair of Laugh Tale.
Sunlight still shone upon this island, unchanged for centuries, as if time itself had stopped here.
Beneath Joy Boy’s colossal demon face, a new line of text had been added:
“Fuck Joy Boy! Fuck One Piece!”
…
Standing again on Britannias’s soil, Gao Wen exhaled deeply, feeling his inner gloom vanish entirely.
He returned to the city hall.
Keluo pushed the door open upon hearing the news, glanced at the Devil Fruit in Gao Wen’s hand, then at the mountain of notes piled beside him, and paused slightly:
“Is this what you found on the final island?”
“Yeah.”
Gao Wen nodded, his lips twitching slightly.
Keluo frowned:
“Didn’t you say getting One Piece means getting everything?!”
“One Piece is just a lie from some boring asshole. All that’s left there is a giant demon face.”
“Then these…”
“Relics left by predecessors.”
Keluo fell silent, his illusion of One Piece shattering completely in that moment.
“What a truly boring bastard.”
“But.”
“Even without One Piece, it doesn’t matter. Once the Pluton launches, we’ll have the power to replace the World Government.”
“At that point, any wish can be fulfilled!”
Gao Wen nodded and summoned Nami, handing her the Cloud-Cloud Fruit.
“This is…”
“The Cloud-Cloud Fruit?!”
Nami cupped the fruit in both hands, her face alight with joy, her eyes filled with emotion she couldn’t express.
“Captain~ You’re the best~!”
“I…”
She sniffed, a mischievous smile curling at the corner of her eye:
“I have nothing to offer in return—let me give myself to you!”
“Get lost!”
Gao Wen gave her a deadpan look and shooed her out of the office like a fly.
Nami chuckled, completely unfazed.
Since witnessing her crewmates’ monstrous strength two years ago, she’d realized she’d become the team’s weakest link.
To rapidly boost her own mediocre combat potential, nothing was more efficient than a Devil Fruit.
And among the countless Devil Fruits, the one most suited to a navigator was precisely this Cloud-Cloud Fruit.
Though in the Devil Fruit Encyclopedia the Cloud-Cloud Fruit was classified as an inferior variant of the Gura-Gura Fruit, to Nami there was no essential difference—and its abilities were even more versatile than the Gura-Gura Fruit’s.
Clouds are the key to forming all kinds of weather; with proper control, nearly every weather-related action becomes possible.
Rain, storms, lightning, dominating weather across vast areas—all fell within the Cloud-Cloud Fruit’s capabilities.
Combined with the diverse cloud layers of the Sky Islands, it might be possible to construct an entire floating city using only the Cloud-Cloud Fruit’s power—perhaps even lifting the whole of Camelot into the sky!
She could also use island clouds to build sky roads, linking multiple floating cities together.
In mere moments, a sky kingdom took shape in Nami’s mind.
Without hesitation, she bit into it—only to feel an utterly bizarre taste flood her mouth. Instinctively, she opened her lips to spit it out, but the flesh slid straight down her throat.
“Ugh~”
“So disgusting!”
Nami gagged violently, taking several minutes to recover.
She raised her hand slightly, and a pure white, cotton-candy-like cloud formed in her palm—dispersing instantly when the wind blew.
The surroundings grew hazy.
After a moment’s thought, Nami pulled out her Weather-Staff and gripped one in each hand.
Vast sheets of black clouds erupted from the staff, converging in the sky and covering dozens of square meters in an instant.
Lightning flickered within the clouds, growing brighter with each passing second, accumulating more and more electricity—until finally…
Crack!
A thunderclap exploded as nearly infinite lightning rained down—not just falling from the clouds, but pouring out of them like a flood!
Hundreds of square meters were drenched in lightning.
This sight…
Sent those nearby into panic, scrambling for cover.
Even Keluo inside the office stared, dumbfounded.
“This fruit… is this strong?!”
“I thought this was an inferior variant of the Gura-Gura Fruit, but its power rivals even other Logia types!”
“And clouds can do far more than this…”
The more Keluo thought, the more he realized the fruit’s true strength.
Gao Wen nodded slightly—he saw more clearly than Keluo:
“It’s not the Cloud-Cloud Fruit that’s strong—it’s Nami wielding the Cloud-Cloud Fruit.”
“Clouds are the key to all weather, and that’s precisely what Nami excels at.”
“In other words, Nami’s compatibility with the Cloud-Cloud Fruit is likely on par with yours and the Razor- Razor Fruit’s.”
“Perhaps…”
“She’ll advance quickly along the path of Awakening.”
This was an Awakening Logia!
As far as Gao Wen knew, even in the original timeline’s far future, with countless Logia users appearing, none had been confirmed as Awakened.
The most Awakened users were Animal-type, then Paramecia; Logia had none confirmed at all.
Aokiji and Akainu’s battle permanently altered Punk Hazard’s weather, turning half into a volcano and half into a glacier—its power spoke for itself, yet even that wasn’t proven to be Awakening.
The difficulty of Logia Awakening was clear.
If Nami could walk this path, she wouldn’t just become legendary—she’d almost certainly reach the threshold of Gold.
At that moment, Gao Wen’s mind received a long-overdue system prompt:
“Crewmate Nami obtained the Cloud-Cloud Fruit!”
“Potential increased!”
“Black Iron Peak Rank → Silver Upper Rank!”
…
Gao Wen glanced at the system prompt, satisfied with the result.
Nami was never a frontline fighter; with Silver-level combat power and Logia’s intangibility, she’d at least be able to protect herself.
