Chapter 82: Tomorrow at 14:00, Going Live—A Few Heartfelt Words
(No. 2, going live at 14:00, may be delayed by one or two minutes; updates will be daily at 18:00 thereafter.)
First, I must make a solemn declaration.
I am riding the trend.
I am riding the hype.
I am riding the trend.
Okay, declaration complete.
So please, certain picky reader lords, stop criticizing this book for merely riding the trend.
I'm laying it all out: I promise that once the royalties come in, I will definitely give Lao A a captain's subscription.
But then again, riding the trend is also a skill.
I've always believed that merely riding the trend is useless; web novels ultimately hinge on telling a compelling story.
If I only rode the trend and wrote a terrible story, I wouldn't have thousands of readers following and demanding updates.
But I must admit, this book isn't as traditionally satisfying—the protagonist can't simply recruit followers and slaughter enemies left and right.
He spends most of his time fulfilling the role of an investigator, witnessing the plight of Meilijian's various classes facing the Execution Line, and acting at critical moments.
Because what I want to convey in this book is:
a magical realist Meilijian.
a nation that is terrifyingly Lovecraftian despite having no anomalies or gods.
a world where everyone strives hard, yet everyone ends up in Lao A, constantly threatened by the Execution Line.
This is the core of this book, and my original intention.
The reason I wrote it this way is primarily because, having written several Meilijian-themed novels, I was suddenly raised to a higher Spirit Vision by Lao A and major bloggers, and now I can no longer look at my earlier works with any honesty.
I feel my previous writings were too naive—the scenes of prosperity and my shallow understanding of capitalism simply don't convince me anymore.
So I decided to tear it all down and shift the perspective to those threatened by the Execution Line.
To reveal the magical absurdity of capitalist society.
But this doesn't mean this book isn't a power fantasy.
Because as the protagonist's personal power grows, he will solve more and more problems, and his Anchor Points will later become the driving force propelling him forward.
One person can light a torch, but cannot make a spark ignite a prairie fire.
This is the core of the book's future development, and also my personal hope.
I will continue improving my writing, seeking balance between satisfying moments and storytelling, striving to make it more compelling.
Then I want to thank my editor yy.
Before publishing this book, he had detailed discussions with me about its selling points, gave me plenty of guidance and help, and helped me clarify my thoughts.
Finally, let me talk about updates after going live.
Eight thousand words daily.
I'll strive to maintain this eight-thousand-word daily update frequency except for a few days during the New Year when I must attend social obligations.
Honestly, I want to update more and earn more than anyone else.
After all, the pressure is truly immense—housing, renovation, marriage—what these mean to a thirty-year-old man, you should understand.
But writing this book isn't easy; I often write two thousand words and delete half of them.
Many times, I sit in front of my computer for four or five hours just to produce three thousand words.
Not to mention the content of this book—you lose SAN reading it, but I lose even more SAN writing it. Especially in certain detailed descriptions, I've already visualized these scenes in my mind more than once while writing.
Sometimes, halfway through writing, I realize the story is too heavy and tragic, so I have to revise it appropriately to avoid overwhelming the overall tone.
Add to that, during my free time I must gather material—every day I listen to Lao A, Lao Zhen, and other bloggers describing the magical Meilijian, and even before sleep I must ponder plotlines and how to use these materials.
You can imagine what my mental state is like.
If it were just a fantasy Lovecraftian world, it wouldn't matter much, since it's all fictional.
But the terror lies in the fact that these materials are mostly real—I'm not only enduring psychological trauma, but also real harm.
Honestly, I used to be calm, but now even small things can trigger inexplicable rage in me.
I feel like the protagonist—my Spirit Vision is too high, I'm constantly on the edge of the Rift, often jolted awake by nightmares. The only difference is that the protagonist has power boosts, while I don't.
But no matter what, I want to write this story well.
I want to use this book to improve my current predicament.
So I hope all reader lords will support me within your means.
Lastly, let me talk about bonus updates.
Although this book's first subscription numbers won't shock anyone, I have high hopes for its long-term potential.
I also want to compete on the New Book Monthly Vote Chart and strive to give this book a better ranking.
So in February, every 500 monthly votes adds one extra update—with no upper limit.
And finally…
In the new year, I wish you all good health, mental peace, and freedom from the Execution Lines of daily life.
