Chapter 1057

~3 min read 554 words

What these noble houses offered was not the agreed-upon Lieutenant General level, but with unspoken understanding they raised the stakes — each family sent a quasi-General, lifting this army's combat power up another step.

If Enel had been ambushed after picking up the person, the situation could very well have reversed, and one of the Four Snack Stars might have been eliminated early.

Of course, not everything the noble houses gave Lin Cheng was good — some dregs were tossed in along with the rest.

"Hello, I'm Feile of the Kelt family." A little fatty ambled over to the training ground, looked around once, then walked toward Lin Cheng.

Lin Cheng looked at the little fatty's plump hand — the grease from food still hadn't been wiped clean. Under Lin Cheng's gaze, the other fellow awkwardly rubbed it on his clothes a couple of times, then extended his hand again.

Swallowing the annoyance in his heart, Lin Cheng put on a smile and shook hands with him.

"Hello, Feile, I'm Lin Cheng of the Borusa family."

After exchanging greetings, Feile also set aside his nervousness and began chatting with Lin Cheng.

"You're the star of our circle — plenty of us have been beaten black and blue at home because of you," Feile said jokingly. "You've put too much pressure on us. Living in the same era as you is truly a miserable thing."

"Then I really apologize for the trouble I've caused," Lin Cheng said with a smile. "In a few years, I'll find a Haidao to live in seclusion, so I won't be a bother to you."

Hearing Lin Cheng's plan to find a Haidao for seclusion in a few years, Feile's smiling face paused for a beat, then quickly returned to normal.

And Lin Cheng, who had been observing Feile all along, let the smile on his face grow even broader.

"Retiring so early — isn't that a bit too soon?" Feile said with a smile to Lin Cheng. "You're younger than me, you've got plenty of time. This world is still pretty wonderful."

"Wonderful?" Lin Cheng chuckled.

"Maybe without us, this world would be a lot more interesting."

Feile's expression stiffened, then he shook his head and pointed at the three Young Masters arriving late behind him, saying: "The Woz family, the Aier family, and the Field family to which Karl belongs."

"The four of us are the ones arranged by our families, hoping to be assigned a suitable (Wang Nuohao) position," Feile quietly sidled up to Lin Cheng and whispered: "Supposedly, they're all Colonel-level positions. Is there one in charge of the kitchen? I'm quite accomplished in the culinary field."

Lin Cheng merely smiled at this, did not answer Feile, but instead went to greet the three Young Masters who had arrived late.

These three Young Masters cut a far better figure than Feile — calling them extraordinarily distinguished might be a stretch, but at a single glance one could tell they were scions of wealthy and noble houses.

They greeted Lin Cheng with great courtesy, and no one extended a hand — everyone stopped at just the right point, neither distant nor overly familiar.

Of course, regarding the Field family to which Karl belonged, Lin Cheng offered a few extra words of greeting, expressing his gratitude toward Karl.
