Chapter 1137

What mattered was that this incident had been exposed, and even the Third Imperial Prince, whom the Tang family supported, could no longer protect him.

That very night, Tang Li was escorted by the Sky Dragon Guard through a spatial teleportation formation to the Imperial Capital, but the sealed Beast Pen City remained under lockdown, forbidding anyone from entering or leaving, while all orders previously issued by Tang Li were suspended—no city-wide curfew, and no further pursuit of anyone.

As for the relevant personnel already arrested, subsequent officials would be responsible for them; the Sky Dragon Guard also took control of everyone inside the City Lord's residence, quietly awaiting Lord Xuan Wuji's arrival.

Two days later, the sealed Lanchengcheng Sect gates opened briefly to welcome the arrival of the Eternal Night Legion. The Sky Dragon Guard commander, who had previously been in charge of controlling Beast Pen City, handed over control of the city to the Eternal Night Legion after making contact with Lord Xuan Wuji; in accordance with Your Majesty's decree, the Eternal Night Legion began a thorough investigation into the secret human beastification experiments in Beast Pen City.

They quickly uncovered a large number of leads; some of the senior experimenters who had previously been involved in the secret experiments were arrested, and a great deal of information was extracted from them. The search for clues went very smoothly, compounded by the fact that some experimental subjects had already been captured in Beast Pen City's cells.

One could say both witness testimony and physical evidence were complete.

As for the whereabouts of those experimental subjects, even these experimenters didn't know—probably only the City Lord, Tang Li, knew where they were.

At the same time, there was one key lead.

The alchemist Master Jianong, who the experimenters said had developed the beastification potion, had disappeared; however, it was known that Master Jianong had not yet left Beast Pen City.

According to the relevant attendants at the City Lord's residence, the alchemist had previously been staying in the City Lord's residence, but later, after apparently seeing the City Lord being taken away by the Sky Dragon Guard, he hurriedly left the residence.

Lord Xuan Wuji ordered the Eternal Night Legion and the Beast Pen City garrison to search the entire city together for traces of the alchemist Master Jianong, but even so, after a full day of searching, there were still no leads.

It was simply bizarre.

Inside the inn.

When General Ji Xia returned, she discovered that there seemed to be another cute girl beside Lin Cheng—and a young elf at that—which greatly surprised her.

General Ji Xia gave two dry laughs.

If she hadn't known that elves were extremely rare on the continent, she might have believed it.

The elves today had long since split into various elven tribes; Lin Cheng was human, and to begin with, he had nothing whatsoever to do with the elves. Even if he wanted to help the elven race revive, the key question was—did those elven tribes even want to revive? Convincing the various elven tribes to unite was practically an impossible task!

She could only assume Lin Cheng had somehow coaxed yet another elven girl from somewhere.

"Ahem, Lin Cheng, I have to remind you—according to Imperial law, abducting or deceiving an innocent girl is a criminal offense. You could be thrown in prison, starting at three years—even if she is an elf."

"Holy sh*t…" Lin Cheng's face instantly darkened.

How had it become him abducting and deceiving an innocent girl? Didn't they see Valkyrie Ailin saying it all over the city? He hadn't even admitted to anything!

"Believe it or not, she really did show up on her own."

"Showed up on her own in your bed?" General Ji Xia said, her eyes full of contempt.

She had already asked Auntie Oukaxi about it, and apparently Lin Cheng himself was pretty dumbfounded, but Valkyrie Ailin had indeed appeared on the bed in Lin Cheng's room.

This was an irreversible fact.

I, Lin Cheng, was left speechless.

mmp!

Got screwed over by the system again.

Valkyrie Ailin really did show up on her own—he was truly more wronged than Dou E herself.

"The Legion Commander is busy now gathering all sorts of evidence of crimes against Beast Pen City Lord Tang Li, and has no time to come see you, you guy. The basic evidence is already fully collected—all that's missing is one key figure!"

"Who?"

Beast Pen City had been sealed off until now; honestly, Lin Cheng was quickly growing curious—who could have evaded capture for so long and still not been caught?

"The alchemist Master Jianong who developed the beastification potion!" General Ji Xia said through gritted teeth, her hatred for evil burning strong. As long as Jianong remained unapprehended, he would simply move to another city and continue researching beastification potions, and then the same tragedies would repeat—people subjected to horrific experiments.
