Chapter 1296

By late morning, after half a day's rest, the army split into two forces. Lei Yi took all the cavalry and headed straight for the capital of the Chirpeli Kingdom, while Lord Xuan Wuji and Imperial Prince Li Chun kept all the infantry and marched at full speed toward Colin Fortress.

Around three in the afternoon.

After three hours of rapid marching, though the whole army was somewhat weary, it didn't matter. What mattered was that they had secretly arrived near Colin Fortress.

Lord Xuan Wuji and the Imperial Prince, leading their men, arrived secretly near the fortress first to observe the situation. Looking at Colin Fortress in the distance, covered in pits, scars, and black scorch marks from artillery fire, it was not hard for Lord Xuan Wuji to guess how brutal a battle had taken place here.

Just then, the great gates of Colin Fortress suddenly opened, and from within, grain carts loaded with supplies slowly rolled out one after another. Judging by the escort, at least five hundred men were transporting them. At this scale, the enemy clearly still did not know that the natural-defence canyon had been breached.

"Looks like our luck is good, Your Highness. I'll give you thirty thousand men — take them and wipe out that grain convoy!" A smile crossed Lord Xuan Wuji's face; he couldn't help but marvel at how truly fortunate they were.

"Very well." Imperial Prince Li Chun agreed on the spot. Destroying a five-hundred-man grain escort was practically effortless.

"Wait! Thirty thousand men??? Is that really necessary? 800"

Li Chun did not question it either; he immediately stood up, preparing to go back and move the troops.

"Wait, Your Highness, I hope you can disguise yourselves."

"Hmm? Disguise?"

For a moment the Imperial Prince tilted his head in confusion, looking at Lord Xuan Wuji.

"Yes. Use three hundred men, disguised as commoners from within the Chirpeli Kingdom, and openly approach the grain convoy. If the enemy cannot match you, they will inevitably send reinforcements from Colin Fortress. At that moment, I will personally lead a team to seize the main gate. Once the gate is controlled, the Eternal Night Legion can take Colin Fortress at the smallest cost. Also, Your Highness, with thirty thousand soldiers, you should know what to do, yes?"

"An ambush! Wipe them all out!"

"Yes!"

Lord Xuan Wuji smiled and nodded — the pupil was indeed teachable.

"Go."

Watching Imperial Prince Li Chun depart, Lord Xuan Wuji gave his deputy general a meaningful glance, signalling him to follow.

The deputy general cupped his fist in acceptance of the order and followed the departing Imperial Prince.
