Chapter 556

The power within Meliodas's Sacred Treasure—his four split bodies had all been destroyed by the blade in Jeredris's hand.

Only one remained, and that was the true Meliodas standing before them.

But at this moment, Meliodas's chest had begun to rise and fall slightly, and one could already see a hint of fatigue on his face.

"What's wrong, Meliodas."

"Three thousand years don't seem to have made you any progress. On the contrary, your strength has actually regressed quite a bit."

"So you really have fallen along with the humans? How laughable—falling together with such lowly creatures."

A faint smirk tugged at the corner of Jeredris's mouth, and a mocking smile spread across his face.

Yet the blade in his hand did not slow in the slightest as it hacked down toward Meliodas.

Though the two were blood brothers, the way each strike now aimed to kill made the onlookers begin to doubt their fraternal bond.

Even the Jade Princess, who was watching Meliodas's battle from atop the city wall, showed a trace of anxiety on her face.

"Miss Merlin, is Sir Meliodas no match for his younger brother?"

"Could you go and help Sir Meliodas?"

In the Jade Princess's eyes, Meliodas was perhaps on the verge of being defeated.

Though it was very strange—or rather, very hard for her to accept—that Meliodas, who had always stood before her like a towering giant,

could also have enemies he could not handle.

But Merlin at this moment merely shook her head and did not rush over to help Meliodas right away.

"Don't worry, Your Highness."

"The Captain won't lose to Jeredris. The Captain hasn't used his strongest power yet."

"Or rather, once the Captain does bring out his full strength, the situation may end up becoming completely one-sided."

Merlin smiled faintly, her expression as relaxed as ever.

And the Jade Princess, comforted by Merlin's words, gradually set her mind at ease.

She then began to order the soldiers to report on the battle situations at the other three locations.

At the city gate where Diane was stationed, she had already revealed her giant form.

As a child of the earth, so long as her feet remained on the ground, an endless stream of magical power would be supplied to her.

With just a few simple earth spells, she quickly wiped out the enemy forces at the East Gate.

As for Ban and King, although they weren't as fast as Diane,

Ban still defeated two of the Ten Commandments all on his own.

King, empowered by the Fairy King's magic, also cleared away over ten thousand enemy troops with ease.

Listening to the soldiers' reports below, the Jade Princess finally breathed a sigh of relief........

Just as she was about to inquire about Escanor's situation, the Jade Princess suddenly felt the air around her grow scorching hot.

But the current season was by no means the blazing heat of summer.

On the contrary, it should still be the rather cool late autumn, yet steam kept rising.

And the sweltering temperature around her, hot enough to make one feel dizzy, brought a puzzled look to the Jade Princess's face.

Just as she was about to ask, a massive fireball suddenly appeared at the distant North Gate.

Like a sun hung high in the sky, that terrifying heat was emanating from within that sun.

"How could this... what is that thing..."

"Is that Sir Escanor's power?"

Looking at the blazing sun hanging high in the sky, the shock in the Jade Princess's heart had already surpassed that of Meliodas being at a disadvantage.

She looked at Merlin in disbelief and said in astonishment,

"Escanor's magic is the sun. The closer the time is to noon, the stronger Escanor's power becomes."

"And from the looks of it, Escanor's strength has nearly reached its peak."

"Escanor at this hour, even if he were to face the Captain, would not necessarily lose."

Merlin, well-versed in the abilities of the group members, did not turn her head to look at that sun.

She merely cast a magic circle to dispel the sweltering air.

But the words Merlin had spoken had already caused the expressions of the people nearby to stiffen slightly.

Magic equal to the sun? Doesn't that mean that at this moment, Escanor is very likely the most?
