Chapter 92: Utterly Shocked

~6 min read 1,145 words

Shiteyin's Browning pistol still emitted blue smoke, the gunshot echoing in the night.

Xiaoye Zuozuo's body stiffened suddenly, his motion stopping abruptly. He lowered his gaze to his chest, where blood was gushing from the bullet hole, staining his tattered uniform red.

"Uh... uh..." his voice turned hoarse, his legs gave way, and he fell heavily to his knees.

Lin Yu crouched down, looking at this Eastern army commander. In the moonlight, Xiaoye Zuozuo's breathing grew ragged, his gaze beginning to scatter.

"The East is nothing but a speck of dust," Lin Yu said coldly, his voice dripping with mockery, "yet they constantly covet Great Dry, even dreaming of an ant swallowing an elephant."

Xiaoye Zuozuo wanted to say something, but could only utter a "gurgle", blood seeping from the corner of his mouth.

"Little do you know," Lin Yu continued, "even a sleeping elephant is not something an ant can provoke. Your ambition will become your death warrant."

The surrounding armored troops remained menacing, muzzles glinting coldly in the moonlight. The Eastern rout troops encircled on the open ground, seeing their commander fall, let out desperate wails.

"Rest in peace," Lin Yu said, standing up and looking down at the already dying Xiaoye Zuozuo, "it won't be long before I send your so-called emperor down to join you."

Xiaoye Zuozuo's eyes widened suddenly, as if he wanted to say something, but the flame of life was already fading in his gaze.

His body slowly toppled, falling onto the very land he had once boasted of conquering.

"Take care of them," Lin Yu said, turning and walking toward the armored command vehicle without looking back.

Shiteyin nodded, giving a hand signal to the surrounding soldiers. The machine gun's roar immediately erupted, harvesting the lives of the remaining Eastern rout troops.

Lin Yu lit a cigarette, leaning against the cold armor of the command vehicle. In the night wind, smoke curled, illuminating the distant fire that had not yet died out.

The machine gun's roar gradually subsided, leaving only sporadic gunfire and death throes on the battlefield.

The Ninth Division, this Eastern elite force, was utterly erased from history that moonlit night.

Lin Yu took a deep drag of his cigarette, turned to Shiteyin beside him, and curled his lips in a meaningful smile: "What do you think those people at the Security Command Headquarters would feel if they knew the situation?"

Shiteyin's eyes flashed with a cold glint as he answered without hesitation: "The Security Command forces number thirty thousand, with outdated equipment and rough training. With our current strength, we only need two hours to take them all down."

This is not boastful talk. The Ghost Division possesses not only armored units but also rocket artillery, a super‑era weapon. If dealing with the Ninth Division required some tactical maneuvering, then facing the Security Command forces would be nothing short of a steamroller.

Lin Yu smiled, reached out and patted Shiteyin on the shoulder: "Not yet the time."

"Let them keep jumping around for now," Lin Yu flicked ash from his cigarette, "we'll deal with these parasites after we've cleared out these Easterners."

Shiteyin nodded, understanding Lin Yu's intent. The immediate priority is to clear out these hostile foreign enemies.

The gunfire in the distance finally ceased completely. Under the moonlight, only the rumble of the armored units' tracks rolling over the ground remained.

【Ding! Host completed mission: Blood debt repaid】

【Annihilate Eastern Ninth Division, gain Resolve points】

【Current Resolve: points】

【Mission Evaluation: Perfect! Annihilated the Eastern elite division with overwhelming force, displaying tremendous power, deterring the petty!】

【Reward issued: Advanced draw chance ×1】

Lin Yu gazed at the system prompt appearing before him, the corners of his mouth turning up in a smile. Fifteen thousand Resolve points—this is no small number.

【Detected host's Resolve about to break through points, reaching S‑grade standard】

【New mission about to begin...】

"S‑grade, huh..." Lin Yu took a deep drag of his cigarette, gazing at the horizon dyed red by distant fire.

This is merely an appetizer; the real drama lies ahead. The Easterners have been shouting about the "Greater East Asia Co‑Prosperity Sphere," haven't they? Then let them see what it means to indulge in foolish dreams.

"Shiteyin," Lin Yu turned to look at this capable aide, "have the troops prepare; we're returning to Shen City."

Shiteyin nodded, turned to relay the order. The engines of the armored units roared again, the steel torrent beginning to change direction.

Lin Yu stood before the armored command vehicle, gazing at the battlefield pockmarked with craters under the moonlight.

The downfall of the Ninth Division is merely a beginning. Soon, the entire Eastern Empire will pay the price for its arrogance.

The Security Command Headquarters was brightly lit.

"Still no news?" Yang Chengdong asked for the tenth time, his fingers incessantly tapping the tabletop.

Qin Chang'an stood by the window, gazing toward the direction outside the city. Since three hours ago, when Lin Yu led his troops out of the city, he had remained rooted here. That mysterious armored unit left too deep an impression on him, leaving him unable to calm down. What unsettled him even more was that, as a Young Commander of the Security Command, he knew nothing about this unit.

"Chang'an," Yang Chengdong looked at his nephew, "what do you say about Lin Yu..."

Before he could finish, a messenger rushed in panic: "Report... report! The West City garrison reports that Lin Yu is leading his troops to request entry into the city!"

"What?!" Yang Chengdong sprang to his feet, "He's back already?"

Qin Chang'an also sucked in a breath of cold air. Recalling the steel torrent he had seen a few hours earlier, a sudden chill ran through him: "What about the Ninth Division?"

The room fell into dead silence. Everyone realized a horrifying fact—if Lin Yu could return this quickly, then the Ninth Division...

"Impossible!" Yang Chengdong's voice trembled, "Even if he had those strange weapons, it couldn't be done in such a short time..."

But he knew deep down that if Lin Yu truly possessed such strength, then the Security Command's thirty thousand troops would, in his eyes, be no more than clay chickens and pottery dogs.

"Quick!" Yang Chengdong almost shouted the order, "Send someone out to the city outskirts immediately to see what's happened! Where is the Ninth Division? Where are they?"

"Si... sir," the messenger stammered, "should we let Lin Yu's troops enter the city?"

"Idiot!" Yang Chengdong grabbed the messenger's collar, "Don't lightly offend Lin Yu now! Let them in—hurry and pass the order!"

The messenger hurried out. The room fell silent again, save for Yang Chengdong's heavy breathing.

"Uncle..." Qin Chang'an wanted to speak but held back. Recalling Lin Yu's meaningful gaze before departure, he suddenly understood something.

Before he could finish, another messenger burst in: "Commander! Outside... outside..."
