Chapter 26: Character Setting Collapsed Again and Again

~7 min read 1,301 words

The DM turned his head, his eyes beneath the mask watching Su Mian.

Su Mian quickly shifted her gaze, adjusting her breathing.

Character setting, character setting.

She reminded herself.

"Um, how are you feeling today... Cisheng?"

Su Mian searched for this name in the script in her mind. Wen Cisheng, this was the DM's name in this instance.

Seeing Si Shi nod, she knew she had guessed correctly and let out a long breath.

Pouring the script directly into her brain was a bit rough, but it was indeed effective in avoiding a lot of unnecessary trouble.

"Not very good."

Wen Cisheng's voice dropped a few degrees. He turned his head, his tone mixed with a trace of displeasure.

"You didn't come to see me today."

Su Mian's heart beat two more times. She knew she should think about the wording to respond.

But her eyes seemed stuck on the man's collarbone and couldn't move away. A strange thought popped up.

Such beautiful bones.

No.

Su Mian shook her head. What was she thinking? So strange.

She suppressed the inexplicable impulse and blinked her moist eyes, "Sorry, Cisheng, I was too busy today."

Wen Cisheng didn't accept this "sorry," or rather, he didn't want to forgive her in the first place.

He was still the same as before, liking to look at her, or more accurately, liking to "gaze" at her.

Not until the elevator door opened did Su Mian escape this reprieve.

She walked toward her department according to her memory, with a "dangerous person" following behind. Many people who saw them took a detour, and even the voices greeting Su Mian became much smaller.

Su Mian became more and more curious about his identity.

A mental patient, it's one thing for players to be afraid, but why are patients and nurses also afraid of him?

The two entered Qingci's office together.

"Little Porcelain Director."

He called out again, his voice brushing against her earlobe. Su Mian trembled all over. She didn't understand what magic these four words had, making her feel strange.

It should be too intimate.

Who would address their attending physician like this?

"What's wrong, Cisheng?"

"You haven't conducted the daily inquiry for me today."

It seems so.

Su Mian's script indeed had this thing. She opened the drawer based on her memory and found Wen Cisheng's file.

Antisocial personality disorder.

Su Mian didn't know much about it, but she roughly knew what it was: not bound by society and morality, doing things outside legal restrictions.

She usually only saw it on the news.

Su Mian pondered, and a stack of A4 paper fell out of the file.

Daily inquiry record.

Wen Cisheng was very patient. He sat down on his own, placed his hands on the desk, and waited quietly, looking so docile he didn't look like an antisocial personality disorder patient at all.

Su Mian frowned slightly seeing these questions. Were questions aimed at ordinary mental patients really useful for him?

"Are you happy today?"

"Not happy, because Little Porcelain Director didn't come to find me today."

"How is your appetite?"

"Very good, but the person sitting next to me hasn't washed for a few days, the smell is a bit disgusting, other than that everything is very good."

"Do you feel tired?"

"I never feel tired."

"Have you had any disputes with others today?"

Su Mian asked the first few questions with an expressionless face, and Wen Cisheng answered very quickly.

Until this question was asked, she suddenly found that the person in front of her was silent.

Su Mian lifted her head and felt the gaze beneath the mask staring at her "amusedly."

"Little Porcelain Director."

"You should ask me how many people I killed today."

Su Mian's breathing stagnated, her spine stiff.

The person in front of her tilted his head slowly, using his hand to pull the list out of Su Mian's hand, revealing the record sheet that had been filled out in previous days.

The fourth question had been crossed out and changed to "How many people did you kill today."

Killing probably involved disputes, but having disputes didn't mean killing.

A subtle word game.

It could be seen that it was specifically changed for patients with personality disorders like Wen Cisheng.

"Are you too tired today? How could you forget that this question has already been changed."

Bad.

Too careless. She should have looked at the previous record sheets first. Su Mian's heart contracted violently, cold sweat forming on her fingertips.

People who often deal with DMs usually die very quickly.

That sentence echoed in her mind.

She was too careless. She clearly felt something was strange subconsciously, but still jumped into the pit. How could an antisocial personality disorder patient ask these questions?

She thought of it, but didn't verify it in time. Su Mian blamed herself endlessly.

Now there was no "newbie protection period." What should she do?

The air was silent for a moment. Su Mian suddenly spoke, giving an answer that even stunned Wen Cisheng.

"Will I die?"

Wen Cisheng lowered his head and found the girl's eyes were clear and bright, the arc of her eye tails low, soft, and drooping, revealing a bit of pathological and weak appearance, but he didn't see the fear he had imagined.

On the contrary, she was very calm.

He knew what Su Mian was asking.

She violated the character setting; would she be executed by him?

But he was very curious, why could she ask so straightforwardly.

"Little Porcelain Director, what are you talking about? I don't quite understand."

Su Mian lowered her eyelids, her heart beating so fast it was about to jump out of her chest.

Of course she didn't want to die, but the thing about "violating the character setting" had already happened. This time she luckily escaped with an excuse, but what about next time? And the time after that?

It is impossible for a person to be awake forever. She didn't want to put herself in this fear of facing death. Torture her? Or kill her? She wanted an accurate answer.

"When you asked this sentence, you actually knew you wouldn't die, right?"

Si Shi was silent for a while, and at some point, he flashed behind her.

Su Mian stood up in fright, her spine hitting the cold wall.

"You are very smart, I can see you are very curious about me, and I can also see you don't want to kill me."

"But you already did it, didn't you?"

As the words fell, the light suddenly went out, and the whole world fell into pitch darkness.

Su Mian's shoulders were suddenly gripped, and her knees went weak.

Something unexpected was happening, and the warm breath rolled over her neck.

The soft hair strands swept her, making her itch. Su Mian trembled uncontrollably, and a sharp pain suddenly came from her shoulder and neck, making her curl up instinctively.

"Ugh—"

Su Mian gasped low, her fingers instinctively grabbing the man's clothes. The person in front of her loosened his strength imperceptibly.

The breathing in the air intertwined. Wen Cisheng lowered his eyes, watching the place that hadn't been used with force, but had produced a red mark.

Compared to death, is she actually more afraid of pain?

"Forget it."

She heard an imperceptible sigh, and a hint of elusive aggression.

"But next time, I will bite through your shoulder."

The light tube flickered twice and lit up again. Su Mian held onto the table with weak legs. When she lifted her head, Si Shi had already disappeared.

Her shoulder was still aching faintly. Su Mian exhaled, her pale complexion gradually returning to normal.

She put away the report sheet expressionlessly, although her heart was still thumping wildly. ===== CHAPTER 27 =====
