Chapter 28: The Deceased

~7 min read 1,365 words

The hospital lobby at two in the morning was still crowded, but now the people registering were all squeezed to the door of the lobby. The sirens of ambulances and police cars sounded at the same time, and the remaining players rushed to the scene.

"So fast?"

Chen Mo sighed, Su Tang slumped on Chen Mo, looking like she hadn't woken up.

Zhou Ruochuan followed behind the few people, sweating profusely and panting.

Su Tang woke up instantly when she saw the situation outside, turning her face away in pain.

"I fuck, this is smashed into meat paste..."

Wang Zeyu: "What do you say? Shall we go to the discussion room first?"

"The system didn't call us to go, so sleepy, can I sleep first."

Su Tang yawned. Wang Zeyu nodded, "That's true, it's too late, everyone go rest first."

Su Mian looked into the cordon, the scene was so bloody and blurry it needed to be pixelated. She frowned and followed the crowd away.

––

The next morning.

This hospital had completely changed its appearance.

Yesterday at two in the morning, the doctors in the corridor were all rushing, with solemn expressions, and occasionally young people supporting the elderly walking slowly past.

Wherever Su Mian went, people nodded to her from time to time, and the atmosphere still had a few degrees of normal temperature.

But this morning, when she woke up, the first thing that met her eyes was the dried blood on the floor, the chandelier with wires exposed, and the faded walls.

In the corridor, the doctors' movements were sluggish, almost stagnant, much slower than yesterday.

Those slowly moving white figures, rather than moving, were sleepwalking.

She suddenly realized that this was some kind of clear dividing line.

Just like in the previous instance, after Guan Xiaoxiao died, the entire orphanage turned into a suffocating withered color, and the crows she had never noticed became regular visitors to the orphanage.

This might be a reminder to the players that the murderer had appeared and the game had officially begun.

The consultation room was noisy. Su Mian pushed the door and entered, noticing the strange fat man by the door at first glance. He was chewing on a pancake he didn't know where he bought. It was clear he was the new "Zhang Shuo Zhi."

That eerie human model was still there, the paint on the left chest becoming more and more obvious.

"You're Qingci?"

Su Mian nodded, seeing the fat man point to the table, "Bought breakfast for you all, eat while it's hot."

"How did that one die?"

Chen Mo leaned against the wall, scanning the people present, her tone sounding indifferent, as if she were curious about who actually had this ability.

"The DM killed him."

Su Mian spoke. Chen Mo saw this and looked as if it were expected, no longer struggling with it.

This is the cruel game world. Even if one person died, for those players who had experienced big storms and waves, it was common practice. As long as it wasn't themselves who died.

Besides adapting, there was no other way.

Su Mian had just closed the door when it was kicked open again. The door frame slapped against the wall and swayed a few times. The DM walked in slowly.

The hospital gown was stained with a large amount of blood, spreading from the trouser legs to the knees.

The players seeing him for the first time were obviously scared, holding their breath and not speaking anymore. Even the fat man silently put down the pancake in his hand.

With a snap of his fingers, the clock hidden in the dark began to count down.

Only Su Mian and Wen Cisheng, who had just arrived, were still standing in the whole room, while the others sat on the chairs with stiff postures.

The DM turned slightly, his tone carrying a smile.

"Please sit, Little Porcelain Director."

The space in the consultation room was obviously not as large as the activity room in the previous instance. With cabinets full of medicine and several human models piled together, plus a table in the middle, it was truly as crowded as it could be.

Su Mian sat in a position closest to Wen Cisheng, her spine only a few millimeters away from the man's trouser legs. She leaned forward somewhat stiffly, her ribs against the edge of the table before she stopped.

It wasn't that she disliked Si Shi, mainly because there was blood on his pants, and Su Mian didn't want to find clues all day and then have to wash a coat when she returned to her resting place.

Su Mian explained to herself, and the DM's voice sounded behind her.

"The person who died yesterday was named Yang Xuan, preliminarily judged to have committed suicide by jumping off the building."

"However, this person is neither a patient nor a medical staff member. It is currently unclear what the purpose is, but someone here must know him."

"The autopsy report will be brought to everyone at this time tomorrow. Now, please tell me what you all did yesterday."

Su Tang: "I took the same elevator as Qingci after coming out of the consultation room. I got off on the 21st floor and returned to the front desk to work the night shift."

"During this period, um, probably at one o'clock, I ran into Qingci. She was walking toward the end of the corridor, don't know what she was doing."

"Later I fell asleep, and then heard the alarm, saying someone jumped off the building. When I took the elevator, I ran into Chen Mo, and the two of us came down together."

Wang Zeyu: "At one o'clock, I was in the copying room getting materials, then went to the 6th floor, 17th floor, and finally ran into Qingci on the 21st floor. We chatted for a few sentences before seeing someone jump off the building outside the window."

Zhang Shuo Zhi: "I stayed on the 21st floor taking care of the old woman and didn't go out."

He paused and added, "The previous Zhang Shuo Zhi also stayed on the 21st floor, did some dirty things, and was executed by the DM. I'm finished."

The most relaxed person in the whole room was none other than him. Seeing the DM was gone, he continued to gnaw on the pancake. Everyone's gaze turned to Su Mian.

Su Mian: "I conducted daily inquiries for patients on the 25th floor and fell asleep at 11:30. When I woke up, it was one o'clock."

"The office light went black for no reason, received a call from an unknown user, and then Zhang Shuo Zhi sent a message asking me to go to the 21st floor to discuss some irrelevant things."

"Unknown user's call?"

Chen Mo looked puzzled. Su Mian took out her phone, clicked on the recording, and Wang Zeyu flashed a trace of surprise in his eyes.

"You even recorded it?"

"Um."

Su Mian nodded expressionlessly, "A small habit."

Actually, it was because of the illness accumulated over the years. If the environment for sleeping was very uncomfortable, Su Mian was already neurasthenic.

Later, it evolved into having a headache and consciousness being hazy when waking up in the dormitory. She often received calls from her parents during these years in college, and she was afraid of not hearing clearly, so she had the habit of recording.

"Sounds like the wind is very loud... wait, why is there a creaking sound."

The fat man put his ear to it. Wang Zeyu pulled him back.

"Our timeline hasn't been finished yet, let's discuss this in a while."

Chen Mo: "Returned to the pediatric department on the 6th floor to work after leaving the consultation room, received materials sent by Wang Zeyu ten minutes later, the power went out at 12 o'clock, and it lasted for more than ten minutes."

"So... actually, from 12 o'clock to 12:10-something, the whole building had no power?"

Su Tang asked curiously, her expression somewhat embarrassed, "I fell asleep, didn't notice at all."

Wang Zeyu nodded, "Yes." ===== CHAPTER 29 =====

Wang Zeyu nodded, "Yes."
