Chapter 30: Top Floor
"Qingci, were you really asleep in the office yesterday?"
Su Mian nodded.
"Then what is this?"
Su Tang handed over an A4 paper, the cover of which read "Pathology Department Sampling Room Entry and Exit Registration Form."
Pathology department sampling room, referred to as the dissection room, used for sampling and analysis of tissues, organs, etc., removed during surgery.
Su Mian's name was written at the very bottom of that form, representing that she had entered this place at 12 o'clock.
"And a blood-stained knife was found under the operating table, currently handed over to the forensic doctor for identification."
Chen Mo walked out, "Qingci, are you sure you didn't lie?"
Her eyes scrutinized Su Mian, but she found that the girl didn't show the panic and stiffness of being questioned.
If it was acted out, then her acting skills were really too superb.
"Who is registering this form?"
Su Mian asked. The others looked left and right, all shaking their heads.
"Zhang Shuo Zhi should know. I was indeed in the office at 12 o'clock..."
Su Mian thought for a while and found that she really had nothing to defend herself with. Now that Zhang Shuo Zhi wasn't here, she put her hands in her pockets and said expressionlessly,
"Then you treat me as a suspect first. We are going to the top floor now, let's go together."
Su Tang:?
Chen Mo:?
Su Mian saw that several people didn't move and turned her head in confusion, "Didn't you come to the first floor to ask me? Not going together?"
Chen Mo wanted to say something but stopped, "You are really the most clear-headed newbie player I've ever seen."
Su Mian blinked, "It's normal for you not to believe me. After all, the surveillance is broken, and I have no way to prove I didn't enter the dissection room."
"And according to my years of experience playing script murders, there shouldn't be any fingerprints on that knife, because you need to wear gloves to enter the dissection room."
When Su Mian analyzed, she liked to stare straight at one place. This way she could concentrate more.
At this moment, she happened to be talking to Chen Mo, so she stared at Chen Mo's eyes without blinking, her gaze calm and serious, combined with a delicate and charming face, actually appearing a bit of a contrast.
Chen Mo was stunned by the stare, angrily reaching out to turn Su Mian's head away, "Ahem, let's go to the top floor first."
Su Mian was puzzled. Chen Mo brushed past her, still muttering, "Newbies just love to put on airs."
Su Mian: "..." Speaking so fast, she was afraid she would hear it.
Abandoned wheelchairs and iron racks were hit by the wind, clanging, echoing in the empty top floor.
The accumulated fallen leaves were rolled up, spinning in the air in swirls.
A few people just walked to the junction of the top floor terrace, and their white coats were blown up.
Su Mian's expression became ugly almost instantly. The cold, bone-chilling wind scraped across her face, accompanied by fine dust.
Su Mian's temples ached one after another. Her slender knuckles clenched into
Chen Mo: "How have you survived until now with such a poor constitution?"
Wang Zeyu glared at Chen Mo, took off his coat, and draped it over Su Mian's shoulders, "Is this any better? How about we go out and take a look first, and you wait for us here?"
Su Mian covered her mouth to catch her breath and said softly, "I'll come out once the wind dies down."
Wang Zeyu nodded and turned to head onto the terrace, just as Su Mian was about to sit down on the steps.
Suddenly, a white lab coat flew onto her face, and Chen Mo's voice came from afar.
"It's boiling, take this for me."
Two seconds later, she added at lightning speed, "You can wear it too."
Su Mian: "..." Was she speaking that fast because she was afraid she'd hear her?
She pulled the garment off her head and wrapped it around herself; with all three lab coats rolled together, Su Mian felt like a rice ball, but fortunately, she was much warmer.
She rubbed her face with her hands to warm it up, only to find that her hands were no warmer than her face, so she silently lowered them, her elbow bumping into the phone beside her.
Su Mian's eyes widened slightly.
Wait, she seemed to have thought of something.
Opening the phone's call logs, Su Mian found that recording.
The sound of the wind was almost identical; before, she had only felt that the wind on the call was very loud and hadn't noticed other details.
For instance, there was a distinct "clanging" sound when the sheet metal was blown into bulges and dents by the wind, which was especially audible on the top floor, as well as the sound of weeds blowing in the wind...
No, that wasn't right, Su Mian pressed her reddened ear against the receiver.
That wasn't the wind blowing; it sounded more like the phone had fallen into a pile of weeds.
Su Mian stood up abruptly and, burdened by her "three-layer coat," walked onto the terrace.
There were no weeds... but there were potted plants!
She suddenly realized and hurriedly called the others over; Wang Zeyu's lips were frozen blue, while Chen Mo and Su Tang didn't seem to have much of a reaction.
Su Mian wanted to take off the clothes to give to the two of them, but Wang Zeyu shook his head, maintaining his remaining dignity with a smile.
"No, it's fine... Qingci, you keep wearing them."
Chen Mo chuckled and patted Wang Zeyu on the shoulder, "She can just wear mine; don't you go freezing to death like a dog."
Wang Zeyu's expression cracked for a moment; he turned his head and, while shivering, smiled at Chen Mo, "Go to hell."
... Pfft.
【Hahahahahahahaha.】
【How can he say something like that while smiling?】
"I don't know, a people-pleasing personality, I guess."
Su Mian teased in her mind, and Su Tang laughed out loud without reservation.
Chen Mo: "What did you find?"
Su Mian pointed to the potted plant furthest inside, "Look at that withered flower; its stem is bent. If it were just the wind, the other potted plants wouldn't have escaped unscathed."
"You mean..."
Su Mian didn't speak; she played the recording from the phone for everyone to hear, then tossed the phone into the potted plant, and everyone suddenly understood.
"Damn... that's amazing!"
Su Tang continued to be supportive, while Chen Mo was startled for a moment, lowering her head in thought, "Under what circumstances would a phone fly out?"
Su Mian: "Exactly, that's the key point—it flew out, it didn't just fall out."
It couldn't have fallen that far.
"Couldn't it have been thrown by that person on purpose?"
Su Tang asked, pinching her chin, and Wang Zeyu shook his head, also becoming serious.
"No. If he wanted to throw this thing away, he wouldn't have made a call and walked right into a trap before doing so. Either he was discovered, or he got into a conflict with someone."
Su Mian nodded in agreement, "I'm more inclined toward the former; if it were the latter, there would be sounds of arguing on the call."
"That's true..."
Wang Zeyu muttered, crouching down because he was so cold, when he suddenly saw bloodstains on the potted plant and pointed them out to the others.
"There's blood."
Su Mian stepped forward quickly, crouched down beside Wang Zeyu, and leaned in to look, "Half of the potted plant is stained with blood."
Wang Zeyu glanced to the side; a fruity scent wafted into his nose, his Adam's apple bobbed, and he moved closer, trying to remain calm.
Chen Mo: "Wang Zeyu, if you're cold, just put on the clothes."
Wang Zeyu stood up with a start, "I'm not cold!"
He gritted his teeth and glared at Chen Mo. The woman glanced at him with an expression that said she saw through everything, and she crossed her arms over her chest and whispered.
"If I were you, I would have hugged her just now."
Su Tang: "If you're a man, just go for it, Wang Zeyu!"
"Shut up!"
Wang Zeyu glared at the two of them, while Su Mian stood up, completely unaware of what the two had just said.
"I suspect these are drag marks."
