Chapter 585: A Person of
"But they are already dead!"
Number Ten gritted his teeth and replied.
"Since they are already dead, then let us return to the previous question: why are you, the one with the weakest cultivation, still alive? Give this Venerable a satisfactory answer. Otherwise, not only you, but even your entire branch shall be thoroughly erased by this Venerable."
Xingzun spoke indifferently, his killing intent growing increasingly intense.
"Because that person raised his hand in mercy and spared me."
Number Ten answered, discovering that the feeling of Great Terror in his heart had vanished. Moreover, this did not involve any secrets, and he presumed that senior would not blame him. Furthermore, this concerned the Life and Death of many people, so he could only answer honestly.
"Raised his hand in mercy and spared you?"
"Interesting. What connection do you have with that Li Daoren? He killed nine people, yet spared only you? Do not take this Venerable for a fool; speak the truth at once."
"He, like our branch, has a connection with the Heavenly Court."
Number Ten answered honestly.
Upon hearing this, Xingzun was astonished. A connection with the Heavenly Court? But had Kong Zunzhe, who had suffered a great loss previously, not said that Li Daoren was at odds with the Heavenly Emperor of the Heavenly Court?
How had it suddenly become a connection?
"You must understand, if you dare to deceive this Venerable, not only you, but your friends, family, masters, and elders shall all die."
Xingzun narrowed his eyes slightly and said coldly.
"Every word I say is true; I am willing to swear an oath upon the Great Dao!"
Number Ten gritted his teeth and replied. He felt a sense of grievance in his heart; in this day and age, could no one believe the truth anymore?
Xingzun frowned. He sensed that what Number Ten said was actually not a lie. Could it really be as he claimed? But this conflicted somewhat with the intelligence provided by Kong Zunzhe.
"Forget it, this Venerable still feels it is better to settle this once and for all."
He spoke indifferently, intending to erase Number Ten.
Regardless of what secrets were hidden within, or whether that Li Daoren had planted a contingency within Number Ten, he had no corresponding information on these matters, nor did he wish to guess. Therefore, killing Number Ten was the only way to settle it once and for all and eliminate future trouble.
In any case, Number Ten had no Venerable protecting him from behind.
At this moment, several more gazes descended, forcefully breaking through the boundless Void manifested in the heart, casting their focus upon Number Ten—some out of curiosity, some out of doubt, and some out of pity.
Xingzun snorted coldly but paid them no mind, extending his palm to erase Li Heng to prevent further complications. Although he did not care about a mere Number Ten, that Li Daoren might be standing behind him; if he were not removed, it might affect the stability of the Multiverse Alliance.
"Xingzun, why bother so much with a junior?"
A smiling voice rang out. From the vast Starry Sky, a Heavenly River flowed, circling and winding as if to swallow countless stars into the river to become its silt.
A Daoist in a mysterious yellow robe appeared, standing atop this endless Heavenly River. With a wave of his sleeve, he blocked the Erasure Power for Number Ten.
"Tianhe Daojun, you wish to wade into these muddy waters?!"
Xingzun's expression was unkind, even somewhat furious. He was merely killing an ant, yet someone had actually come to obstruct him? It was as if they did not take him seriously at all!
"Xingzun, it is not that I wish to wade into these muddy waters, but that this is the intention of several fellow Daoists. Since this person was able to return alive from that era, he must know some secrets. We can glimpse the essence of that era from the traces of Causality within him, and perhaps figure out the bottom line of that Heavenly Emperor and that Li Daoren."
"So why be so impatient, fellow Daoist Xingzun?"
Tianhe Daojun said with a light laugh.
"And if I insist on killing him?"
Xingzun narrowed his eyes slightly. This Tianhe Daojun did not belong to his faction but to another faction hostile to them, which had always coveted the leadership of the Multiverse Alliance. Standing out now might not be entirely for the sake of this Number Ten, but more to make him uncomfortable and have a hard time.
However, this was underestimating his resolve too much.
He knew very well that for him, a Venerable, to encounter such obstruction while killing a Sacred being, a large part of the reason was likely that Number Ten possessed Causality involving the Venerable level; until the Causality was resolved, he would be difficult to kill, otherwise it would not be like this.
It was similar to what is called a Child of Luck.
Since he had already turned hostile with this Number Ten, he could not let him escape alive, or it would trigger many disasters. Moreover, he could roughly guess what the Causality behind Number Ten was—it was absolutely that Li Daoren!
Tianhe Daojun folded his sleeves together and spoke indifferently.
"As a Venerable, to be so proactive in killing a Sacred being—it seems the rumors were true. Among the nine who died, was one of them your core disciple, which is why you are so eager for revenge?"
"Say what you will, but Number Ten must die today, and I will erase his entire branch along with him! If you wish to obstruct me, then let our two factions go to war!"
Xingzun spoke resolutely, his killing intent becoming even more intense.
These were all characteristics of a person of great Luck and great Causality.
The harder they were to kill, the more they must be killed, otherwise the future troubles would be endless.
Tianhe Daojun sighed, looking helplessly at Number Ten below. "Little friend Number Ten, I have done my best, but this fellow Daoist Xingzun's heart to kill you is unextinguished, as if he were possessed by madness. This poor Daoist can do nothing more; little friend, may you be blessed."
He truly wanted to protect Number Ten, who had made Xingzun act so crazily as if he were a murderer of his father. But seeing Xingzun's appearance, it was clear that if he were to obstruct him, a great war would immediately break out, so he dared not act rashly. He only wanted to disgust Xingzun, but Xingzun wanted to fight him to the death, so there was nothing to be done.
One could not truly risk one's life for a Sacred being; it was laughable.
And most crucially, he also suspected whether this matter was something Xingzun had done on purpose to lure their faction into the trap and provide an excuse for war to completely annihilate them.
If that were the case, then he could act even less rashly.
Number Ten's originally happy mood plummeted to the bottom, as if he had fallen into an ice cellar. He had originally been thinking that this Venerable Tianhe Daojun was a great philanthropist for standing up to Xingzun for his sake.
But looking at it now, what philanthropist?
Tianhe Daojun was merely using him as a tool to disgust Xingzun. But if he were to risk his life to protect him, that was simply impossible. Was he truly unable to escape this First Tribulation?
He gripped that Route Map tightly, feeling despair in his heart.
Even now, he did not know what that senior Li, who had not killed him and told him to return to the Multiverse Alliance, was trying to do. Was he just enjoying his struggle before death?
"The obstruction is removed; now you should die."
Xingzun sneered and struck directly.
There were only two possible outcomes for what followed.
Either this Number Ten would be easily erased by him, resolving all hidden dangers once and for all, and incidentally letting this Number Ten be buried with his disciple. Or, that Li Daoren's contingency would manifest and protect Number Ten.
But regardless of which it was, he was happy to see it.
If it were the latter, he could also test the mettle of that Li Daoren! He did not believe that Li Daoren could be that strong; once away from the home field of his own era, what kind of waves could he possibly stir up!
The Erasure Power arrived in an instant.
But at this very moment, a sigh rang out.
Immediately following, that vast and boundless Starry Sky went completely dark.
