Chapter 742: The Known Unknown
"Ungrateful wretches? Is that how you see them?"
Li Heng said with a light chuckle.
"Don't misunderstand, I am not targeting all practitioners of the Transcendence Path, only that group of ungrateful wretches. Because only they would think that we stay in the position of Dao Lord and do nothing, and that we only stop their progress for our own selfish desires."
Zhongjie Daozhu responded calmly.
"Hmm, it seems everyone thinks they are very innocent."
Li Heng said, standing in a neutral position.
"I don't think we are innocent, but that group of ungrateful wretches is definitely not innocent either. Heh, leaving the Great Void, Infinite Transcendence? That really is quite dashing."
Zhongjie Daozhu said this with a tone full of mockery.
"Could there be some secret hidden in this? But I do understand them; after all, their exploration results and Transcendence achievements have all been freeloaded by you, keeping them firmly trampled underfoot."
Li Heng asked curiously.
"I knew they would say that, but it is simply ridiculous."
Zhongjie Daozhu shook his head.
"They have no idea that the reason they can explore the Wuqiong Weizhi and achieve Infinite Transcendence is entirely because of the support of the Great Void behind them. Otherwise, how could they transcend? What would they use to transcend? Can a character in a story, no matter how strong, transcend the story itself?"
Li Heng raised his eyebrows.
"You mean..."
Before Li Heng could finish, Zhongjie Daozhu continued.
"It seems you have already thought of it. Without the meaning the Great Void bestows upon them, why do you think a tiny individual of the Known could explore the endless Unknown Ocean? Just like why do you think a primitive man would understand a high-tech planet-killing warship?"
His tone became earnest.
"The Wuqiong Weizhi is by nature unknown; it cannot be explored, it cannot be reached—that is its true meaning. What can be explored and reached is merely the Known that goes by the name of Unknown. Do you understand?"
"As you said, we Dao Lords do indeed sit and level up, but the ground we sit on is the entire Great Void, not the Transcendence practitioners of that group of ungrateful wretches!"
Li Heng frowned deeply.
The two sides' perspectives were truly diametrically opposed.
The Transcendence side believed the Great Void and the Dao Lords were freeloading off their exploration results. The Dao Lord side, however, believed there was no such thing as freeloading; instead, the Transcendence side had always been enjoying the Great Void's function of converting the Unknown into the "Known that goes by the name of Unknown."
"So you should understand what I said before now, right? The Transcendence Path is fundamentally invalid; there is no such thing as Transcendence in this world. So-called Transcendence is nothing but the most ridiculous, absurd talk."
"I have to say, this logic almost convinced me."
Li Heng sighed and said.
"What? You still don't believe it?"
Zhongjie Daozhu said.
"No, no, no. Compared to what I've heard from the Transcendence side, perhaps what you say is more reliable. After all, when it comes down to it, the Transcendence side has always been the weaker party, while you Dao Lords have always been very powerful. Since you are powerful, surely reason must be on your side, no matter how despicable or shameless it may be."
Li Heng said candidly.
"Can I take it that you still don't believe us, and are in fact insulting us?" Zhongjie Daozhu frowned and said.
"You can understand it that way, but to be precise, this is just a doubt. Suppose the Unknown could never be explored, and what can be explored is merely the Known that is called the Unknown."
"Then, what is the deal with the expansion of the Great Void? By what right does the Great Void explore the Unknown that ought to be impossible to explore?"
"Could it be that there is some power shielding the Great Void from above? But wouldn't that confirm that the Transcendence side's theory is correct, that there is always something stronger than the Great Void?"
Zhongjie Daozhu shook his head after listening.
"So that's how you think? But it's not surprising; after all, many Transcendence powerhouses think this way. These are all clichés that have already been explained many times."
"Oh, I would like to hear the details."
Li Heng inquired.
"The true answer to this question is not that there is some power shielding it from above, but that the Great Void itself transcends true Reason, and therefore, there is no such thing as exploring or not exploring the Unknown."
Zhongjie Daozhu said slowly.
"But regarding what you just said, couldn't I also understand it as: as long as the Transcendence side can also transcend true Reason, they could prove the Transcendence side is correct? After all, this kind of rhetoric just sets a benchmark of strength for the Great Void. As long as that benchmark is there, then the Transcendence side's argument is correct."
However, Zhongjie Daozhu shook his head again.
"It is actually meaningless for you to dwell on this question."
"Let's put it this way: haven't you noticed? Your entire argument is based on logical thinking, while the Great Void transcends logic."
Li Heng raised an eyebrow, his face full of admiration.
"What a flawless piece of charlatan rhetoric. Then, conversely, couldn't I also think that the words you speak about transcending logic are actually also thought out using logic?"
Zhongjie Daozhu nodded candidly as well.
"Congratulations, you have realized this point. Continuing like this is just nesting dolls within dolls. So, investigating whether the Great Void has an upper limit is meaningless. Do you understand now?"
"Perhaps I should answer you this way: even the version of me at my peak could not answer the topic of the Great Void's essence. Because even the Dao Lords have no way of confirming that the Great Void they control is truly the entirety of the Great Void, understand?"
Li Heng nodded thoughtfully.
"So that's how it is; it really is a very shameless concept."
Zhongjie Daozhu wore an expression of "the student can be taught," but before he could be happy for long, Li Heng spoke again, leaving him stunned.
"But I never needed to investigate the answer, because the answer is already in my hands, and this answer truly and concretely proves that the Great Void has an upper limit!"
Li Heng said as much.
"Are you talking about that power you gave me?"
Zhongjie Daozhu frowned.
"You are right, that is the answer."
Li Heng said slowly; this was also the reason why, although things had always been confusing and everyone seemed to have a logical point, he had always leaned toward the Transcendence side.
This was certainly because he was a practitioner of the Transcendence Path.
But the existence of Source Power also answered many things.
"I must admit that kind of power is indeed special, marvelous."
"But your answer is not very rigorous. Just as I said before, even a Dao Lord would not dare to say one hundred percent that they fully understand the Great Void. Perhaps that power of yours is just something that lies outside the control of a Dao Lord, yet belongs within the Great Void."
Zhongjie Daozhu said.
"Oh, right, I must remind you that the current phenomenon of the Great Void so strongly repelling cultivators of the Transcendence Path only appeared after those Disasters and monsters emerged."
"But even so, the Great Void remains unmoved in the slightest."
