Chapter 773: The Gentleness of Freedom

~7 min read 1,372 words

"You also want to learn from that sick old man, right?"

Li Heng shook his head and said.

"Sick old man? So that's it. So that old fellow Purification also died like that, though it really suits his personality. If I'm not mistaken, he even fought you before he died."

"Even though it was likely just some sort of test?"

Su Ming was surprised at first, then continued to smile.

At the same time, he spoke the honorable name of that sick old man.

"Yes, you are right."

"But in a sense, the sick old man didn't have to die; it was he who chose death. And as for you, my attitude is the same—you don't have to die."

Li Heng said.

If a person wants to die, then nothing can be done.

"That won't be necessary. I can indeed guess that you have some methods, otherwise you wouldn't be able to trace the past of a Dao Lord, but those methods must have restrictions, or limits, right?"

He said softly, making a gesture to tell Li Heng not to speak, and then continued. "If I'm not mistaken, that old man Purification said the same thing."

"Indeed, the synchronization rate is ninety percent. If it weren't for the fact that your origin auras are completely different, I would have thought you were the sick old man resurrected in a disguise."

Li Heng remarked with a rare touch of sarcasm.

"That's not strange; after all, there are only so many possibilities."

"However, compared to that sick old man, my reason is different. It is that I need to pay with my life, or rather, compensate for the impact and losses I have caused to the Great Void."

Su Ming said, his tone growing firmer.

Li Heng appeared somewhat astonished.

Does an existence of this level still care about such things?

Although it is only natural to pay back debts and pay for a life with a life, for existences of this realm, they have long since transcended good and evil, transcended Heaven and Earth; how could they be constrained by what is "only natural"?

Saints do not incur Causality even when they kill.

Let alone Su Ming, who is above the Causality of Transcendence?

"You must think this way of mine is very stupid, right? That is indeed not strange. After all, those who have friendships with me, upon hearing this idea, all say I am too idealistic, and those who don't have friendships with me will directly call me an idiot with no brains at all."

Su Ming seemed to be scolding himself as well.

"But, I am just such a person."

"Or rather, Freedom is just such a person. He was born as the wind of freedom, full of romance, extremely gentle to all things, giving all living beings infinite possibilities. It can be said that throughout Freedom's growth, he never killed a single person."

Su Ming said so.

"Do you think I would believe that? Just in the scene earlier, Freedom blew a wild wind, bringing about countless possibilities. Among those possibilities, there was no lack of worlds being destroyed, civilizations collapsing, and living beings dying."

Li Heng said calmly.

"Why is that called death? You might have misunderstood."

Su Ming said in surprise.

"For Freedom, who was born as the wind of freedom and the wind of possibility, the true death of an individual means that all of their own possibilities are severed and all point toward death."

"If an individual living being only died in one kind of possibility, but did not die in other possibilities, then this living being is still alive; it is just that they have changed their way of living."

"Although the strong can indeed erase all possibilities of an individual living being, when Freedom was in the world, he was protecting all living beings at every moment, preventing their possibilities from being severed."

"Therefore, to the Great Void at that time, and to Freedom at that time, all living beings were immortal. This was the gentleness and protection unique to that old fellow."

"Uh, this gentleness is a bit deadly."

Li Heng held his forehead, feeling somewhat speechless.

Should one say it is worthy of the perspective of a Sacred being born as such?

As someone born as a postnatal living being, and initially just an ordinary mortal, even after reaching this realm, he found it difficult to understand, and did not want to understand, this state of mind.

"That is just the perspective of ordinary living beings being too narrow."

"Freedom had his own expectations for all living beings in the Great Void, and he always held onto one thought. That is, after countless ages, all living beings would walk along the Way of Freedom, and after reaching the final possibility and attaining the ultimate realm, all living beings would understand him and understand his gentleness."

Su Ming responded calmly.

"So you want to die because you have failed this gentleness?"

Li Heng asked helplessly.

These Dao Lords, why do they all want to die so much?

Although with his current Source Power, even one is quite a handful, and if an accident happens, he might not even be able to save them—and in fact, he doesn't even want to save them—but you guys should at least struggle a little.

"Perhaps."

"In reality, when you put the facts before me, I actually don't have much of a real feeling. In my heart, I am still the trace left behind by that old fellow Freedom; I am his opposite, meant to inherit his last wish and save the Great Void."

"But I know even better that no matter how much I want to in my heart, this cannot change the objective Reality that I am a Disaster."

"I have always believed that the implementation of the Way of Fate was my original intention, but objectively, it is the power of the Disaster influencing me to carry out the Way of Fate, taking back the possibilities of all living beings."

"What I think is good for the Great Void is actually destroying the Great Void. This remains the case; my living is a mistake, so why should I still live?"

Su Ming smiled bitterly.

"You can make amends, with your realm."

Li Heng said.

"Can people killed by Disaster monsters be resurrected?"

Su Ming asked.

"Theoretically, no." Li Heng answered.

"Then all the living beings and worlds that were influenced by my Way of Fate, destined for fate, and even destroyed because of it, will not be restored either."

Su Ming said calmly.

Li Heng was instantly rendered speechless.

He actually very much wanted to say that he could resurrect and restore everything destroyed by the Calamity and the monsters. However, he never ended up saying such words.

Because he only knew that his Source Power was insufficient.

If it were to resurrect and restore a few people or a few Worlds, it would be fine.

But wanting to completely resurrect and restore the living beings and Worlds affected by the Way of Fate was almost impossible, at least not right now.

Since that was the case, he could not take on the whole burden.

He, Li, was not some kind of Saint.

"When successful, help the world"?

That premise required the strength to be successful and help the world.

"You might still have strength and trump cards, but those are unnecessary. Instead of spending the effort to help me, it would be more efficient to go deal with the Calamity and the monsters."

"Besides, you and I are mere passing acquaintances. To be honest, even if you were truly helping me, I might not dare to accept it. Hmm, although I have already made up my mind that I am going to die, holding onto this kind of mindset is truly strange."

As Su Ming spoke, he muttered to himself.

"However, perhaps this is a good thing? At least I am not dying at the hands of the Calamity and the monsters; after countless years pass, I will still be able to return."

"By that time, presumably the Great Void will be peaceful, right?"

"Thinking about it this way, I am actually happier..."
