Chapter 797: Four Dao Lords
Li Heng descended into the Initial History.
The Order Tide behind him immediately came rushing in.
But the next moment, the Order Tide, which had previously been invincible, encountered resistance; it did not wash into the Initial History, but was instead blocked outside, unable to submerge it.
If the Pollution suffered by other Old History was merely filth attached to the surface, then no matter how tightly that filth adhered, it would have to detach and be purified under the scouring of the Order Tide.
But this Initial History was very different.
The Pollution was not attached to the surface.
Or rather, it was not loose, but had condensed into a solid mass, making the entire Initial History like a piece of hard land that could contend against the endless ocean of the Order Tide.
However, Li Heng had already anticipated this.
The fact that the pure Order Tide was useless did not mean that the Order Tide mixed with Source Power, bolstered by Source Power, could not wash in; if it was currently meeting resistance, it simply meant there was not enough Source Power.
He continued to mix more Source Power into the Order Tide.
Soon, the Initial History finally loosened and a gap was broken open by the Order Tide; then, like a dam bursting, the gap expanded rapidly, allowing the entire Order Tide to rush into the Initial History.
The Calamity monsters within the Initial History were likewise submerged by the Order Tide, and the unreasonable status they held as Calamity monsters was erased by the Source Power mixed within it, allowing for effective damage.
Hm?
Li Heng suddenly sensed a trace of anomaly.
With a slight movement of his mind, he cast his gaze toward a certain point in time within this Initial History.
Normally, according to the polluting ability of Calamity and monsters, it would not matter what was past, present, or future; everything would be polluted regardless, and there was no possibility of avoiding the Pollution through space-time means.
But he discovered that at the point in time he was looking at,
there was no Calamity or monster Pollution there.
A figure stood there!
"Interesting."
Li Heng smiled slightly and stepped forward, arriving at this point in time, instantly detaching from the pitch-black Pollution that should have permeated all space-time and been omnipresent, arriving in a normal World.
This World was even vibrant, with countless living beings, civilizations, and powerhouses, operating in an orderly fashion, full of hope and possessing Infinite possibilities.
Although it was situated within an ancient history,
it looked even newer than the New History.
And the source of all this...
Li Heng looked toward the center of this World.
This World was an infinitely large world, infinite in the true sense; in a certain sense, it could also be called a Multiverse, because an infinitely large world has infinite possibilities.
And at the center of this Infinite World stood a Divine Mountain, like a pillar of heaven, supporting the sky and earth; atop the Divine Mountain stood a human figure, looking down upon the infinite Heaven and Earth.
Finally, they met Li Heng's gaze.
"It's been a long time since a new guest arrived."
The figure smiled slightly.
Li Heng instantly arrived atop the Divine Mountain, in front of this figure, "My name is Li Heng. May I ask for your name, fellow Daoist? Are you a Dao Lord, or a remnant?"
"So it is Fellow Daoist Li. However, Fellow Daoist Li, you are truly straightforward; asking so directly the moment we meet, are you not afraid I might not answer you?"
The figure said with a smile.
"I'm in a hurry; asking never hurts."
Li Heng was noncommittal.
"Then Fellow Daoist Li, you are truly refreshing. But since you are so eager to get an answer, and you carry the aura of other Dao Lords, I shall tell you."
"I am a remnant of the Order Dao Lord, a trace of existence in the world."
The figure shook his head and spoke the answer.
"Then may I ask how the Order Dao Lord fell? What were the Calamity and monsters he had to deal with? And where are they now?"
Li Heng was not surprised and went straight to the point.
The figure looked thoughtful upon hearing this.
"I was wondering why a fellow Daoist would venture deep into such a dangerous place; so it was to investigate the cause of the Order Dao Lord's death? Or perhaps to seek out Calamity or monsters of that level?"
"Both."
Li Heng answered frankly.
"Then I am afraid I will disappoint you, Fellow Daoist. I was not specifically left behind by the Order Dao Lord. On the contrary, I am merely the product of an accident. When the Calamity monsters descended upon this Reality, the Order Dao Lord cast his gaze down and briefly stayed in this world, thus leaving behind this figure, which eventually became me."
"It is only a pity that I am merely a figure of the Dao Lord, not the Dao Lord himself; my abilities are limited, and I can only protect this tiny World, leaving everything outside the world to be occupied by Calamity monsters."
The figure sighed and said.
"Fellow Daoist, there is no need to sigh. I have come here today, and I will surely recover every lost history one by one, and purify and eliminate these Calamity monsters one by one."
Li Heng said.
The figure was instantly stunned.
"This... Fellow Daoist, are you joking?"
After a long while, he managed to squeeze out this sentence.
"Then why doesn't Fellow Daoist take a look outside the world?"
Li Heng invited him to open his eyes and look at the world; facts speak louder than words.
He felt that this figure probably had not paid attention to the situation outside this World for a very long time.
Because this World truly had no Calamity monsters at all; the living beings and powerhouses inside all lived very comfortably, and now they had even begun to fight among themselves, competing for some holy position of Heaven and Earth.
The figure turned his eyes to look outside the world.
He had indeed not paid attention to the situation outside the horizon for a long time; after all, it was pitch black there, with endless Calamity monsters entrenched within, and he had no ability to change anything.
In such a situation, the more one pays attention, the more painful it becomes.
Then he discovered with astonishment that the pitch-black darkness, which should have been endless, was now shining with bright light; those lights were contending against the darkness and seemed to be gradually gaining the upper hand, purifying and devouring the darkness.
"Fellow Daoist sees it now, right? Was this just empty talk?"
Li Heng said with a smile that was not quite a smile.
"This..."
The figure fell into silence, not knowing what would be best to say.
Had he perhaps underestimated the person before him?
Was this person even stronger than he, the legacy of a Dao Lord?
"It seems my eyes were truly dull; perhaps this is the sorrow of practicing the Dao within a snail shell—my vision was too short-sighted."
After a long while, the figure let out a bitter laugh.
"No need, this is human nature; if it were me, I would not have believed it too readily either." Li Heng waved his hand, not minding it at all.
"However, since I have already proven my qualifications, Fellow Daoist should tell me the truth; at the very least, I should know some of the hidden information." He looked at the figure and continued to speak, not believing the figure's earlier claim that they knew nothing either.
"You are indeed qualified, but you must be prepared."
"That is, it was not just the Order Dao Lord who died. To create this Reality, to be able to let it infinitely undergo Reincarnation and reset, and to suppress all the Calamity monsters within the Old History—to be able to do such things was not the work of the Order Dao Lord alone; it was the joint effort of multiple Dao Lords."
"Do you now know the danger involved?"
The figure said.
"Please, go on."
Li Heng nodded, not surprised.
He had known it would not be that simple.
"Reincarnation, Order, Chaos, Wisdom—these are the titles of the four Dao Lords; they used their own deaths as the price to forge a cage, trapping something with an Eternal war..."
