Chapter 825: The Unknown Observer
"What quantum mechanics? Whose cat is this?"
Li Heng made a rare, sarcastic remark.
"Do not think we are joking; at least in our observations, your hometown is exactly like this: placed inside a black box, and before opening that black box, it exists in a superposition of existence and non-existence."
The Great Void Will said.
"This is so unexpected for me; I must confirm this."
Li Heng was lost in thought.
As it happened, during the time he spent chatting with the Great Void Will, quite a bit of Source Power had been derived through his Source Power Authority, which might allow him to verify the truth of this information.
Then, confirmed as true!
Li Heng was shocked; was it really like this?
Seeing Li Heng's reaction, the Great Void Will spoke up to console him.
"You shouldn't be so despondent; after all, the state of your hometown is truly very special. We cannot figure it out ourselves. Perhaps it is not the illusory place of 'flowers in a mirror, moon in the water' that we expected. It is more like a place that shouldn't appear now, but definitely exists."
"Are your metaphors always this good?"
Li Heng made a rare, humorous remark.
"My apologies, the situation is too special, and it is hard for us to describe what kind of state this is. If we must use an un-vivid metaphor, it is like an actor who shouldn't be on stage, yet has not entered this arena now."
After a long while, the Great Void Will squeezed out another metaphor.
"Then have you detected any information mapping of my hometown in the Great Void?" Li Heng asked, lost in thought.
"Naturally, we have investigated, but we found no root. If we couldn't confirm that you indeed came from somewhere and that it is indeed your hometown, we would have thought it was our own illusion."
The Great Void Will spoke, discussing it with a bitter smile.
"Perhaps in the eyes of that hometown of yours, we are also a black box of existence and non-existence? Are we truly mutually unobservable black boxes?"
These wills mocked themselves.
"You don't seem discouraged? This damages your reputation for being Omniscient and Omnipotent. What if my hometown is your Upper Realm? The Great Void is full of information mappings of my hometown everywhere."
Li Heng raised an eyebrow and said.
"Discouraged? You underestimate us."
"Or rather, we have already been discouraged long ago; can any blow be greater than the invasion of the Calamity and the monsters?"
"The possibility of it being the Upper Realm as you say is not high. Although the information mapping of your hometown exists widely in the Great Void, from the overall scale of the Great Void, it does not occupy a large proportion; otherwise, we would not have only noticed it now."
"It is just like how living beings will always fantasize based on the culture of their own civilization, but no matter how many fantasies they have, they can never escape their own civilization. Therefore, on the scale of countless civilizations, although the fantasies belonging to one civilization are many, they are also very few."
"Even if it really is the Upper Realm, it doesn't matter. The Great Void has always been a standard of judgment; as long as something is known, it will be incorporated into the Great Void. Perhaps it just hasn't been explored by us yet."
These Great Void Wills answered in a jumble of voices.
After hearing these explanations, Li Heng couldn't help but shake his head.
"I always feel that you are very broad-minded; you don't care?"
"Of course one must be broad-minded, otherwise we would have been killed by the initial invasion of the Calamity monsters long ago. Perhaps you can think of it this way: the wills that weren't broad-minded back then are all dead now."
The group of Great Void Wills did not care about this.
"It seems I shouldn't expect to get anything from you."
Li Heng sighed.
Although these Great Void Wills were not riddle-mongers, they hadn't provided any information after talking for so long, which in reality was not much different from encountering riddle-mongers.
"Who said you wouldn't get anything?"
"That's right, don't think we are all useless; only a small portion of us are useless."
"The one who spoke before, how can you say that about yourself."
"Ahem, don't listen to them bickering, it's a waste of time. In fact, we can help you establish a channel to connect with your hometown."
"Yes, you can do this, but be cautious. Because as we just said, your hometown is a black box, in a state between existence and non-existence. Once a connection is established, it is equivalent to opening the black box and determining its state."
"It would be fine if existence is determined; we might be able to glean methods for dealing with the Calamity and the monsters from it. But if non-existence is determined, that is not what we want to see, nor is it what you want to see."
These Great Void Wills said, even starting to argue with each other.
Regarding Li Heng's hometown, they were even more concerned than Li Heng himself. This was the first time they had encountered such a situation: a place that they themselves had never known about, yet met the criteria for a known place.
This was truly extremely unreasonable.
If one were to explain it using concepts from novels and stories, it would be equivalent to a setting conflict, which is hard to ignore.
"Fine, determine it early, be at ease early."
Li Heng nodded, not hesitating.
Although he did not believe everything was material, everything should be objective, and all objective things would not change because of human will or thoughts.
That which exists must exist.
That which does not exist also exists within non-existence.
"Good, since that is the case, we will use you as a medium to attempt to communicate and connect. During this period, you may pass through the infinite Unknown outside the Great Void. You might see many strange sights, or even many Terror-inducing things, due to the collision and agitation between the known and the Unknown, but you must treat them as if they do not exist, understand?"
The group of Great Void Wills said solemnly.
"Why is that?"
Li Heng asked. He could vaguely guess a bit of the principle, but he still needed these wills to confirm it specifically.
"When the Unknown is treated as the Unknown, everything is harmless."
"But if the Unknown is determined by an observer, transformed from the Unknown into the known, and the form of the known is confirmed, then everything is hard to say."
"No one knows how many Terror-inducing things will be brought out."
"What you say makes sense, but it is quite idealistic. However, if that is the case, I can completely lead my own observation and collapse the Unknown into a known that is favorable to me."
"For example, the known where I instantly attain the Dao and become invincible."
Li Heng nodded, but he had the heart to tell a joke.
"If things were truly that simple, it would be for the best. Ever since the Calamity monsters appeared, the Unknown outside the Great Void has become Weird; how could it be so easy to perceive?"
"Moreover, just as you said, this is too idealistic. Perhaps an observer is always just an observer; such a Terror already exists within the Unknown and is not born from the observer."
The will of the Great Void revealed this information, its tone profound and meaningful.
"Alright, focus your mind; it is about to begin."
As the voice fell, everything before Li Heng became blurred...
