Chapter 319: Defeating the Enemy
Inside the Inheritance Land, the atmosphere was so heavy it felt suffocating, and Ao Li's battle with the mysterious enemy had entered a feverish stage. Ao Li was surrounded by Inheritance Power, its light like a scorching sun, dispelling the surrounding darkness. Though cloaked in the light, the mysterious enemy still fought stubbornly; the dark aura he emitted collided violently with Ao Li's Inheritance Power, producing a series of rumblings.
Ao Li waved her hands, and the Inheritance Power under her control constantly shifted shape—sometimes like a sharp blade, sometimes like a solid shield, each strike bearing the force of a mountain‑crushing wave. The mysterious enemy was not to be outdone; his hands slipped through the darkness like phantoms, continuously summoning black energy tendrils that tried to ensnare Ao Li and disrupt her attacks.
The mysterious enemy let out a roar, and the dark energy around him surged wildly, coalescing into a massive Dark Magic Hand that lunged at Ao Li. Wherever the hand passed, space seemed to tear, emitting a piercing sound. Ao Li's gaze was steady, unflinching; she quickly gathered the Inheritance Power and formed a Light Barrier before her. When the Dark Magic Hand struck the Light Barrier, a dazzling flash erupted, and a powerful wave of energy radiated outward from the two of them. The ground of the Inheritance Land cracked apart, huge fissures spreading like a spiderweb, and the ancient runes on the walls flickered under the force.
Ao Li knew she could not give the mysterious enemy a moment to recover, so she seized the instant when the Dark Magic Hand was blocked by the Light Barrier and launched another assault. The Inheritance Power turned into countless Light Arrows that rained down on the mysterious enemy. He hurriedly summoned successive layers of Dark Shield before him, trying to block the Light Arrows. The Light Arrows struck the Dark Shield, producing a continuous bang‑bang sound, and the Dark Shield thinned under the impact until it finally shattered.
The mysterious enemy could not dodge; several Light Arrows struck his body. He let out a painful roar, his body shuddering a few times before he steadied himself. At this moment he was wounded in many places, his black robe torn, revealing pale, twisted flesh beneath. His gaze was filled with venomous resentment and unwillingness, fixed stubbornly on Ao Li.
"You think this is enough to defeat me? I won't fall so easily!" the mysterious enemy snarled, baring his teeth. With that, he thrust both hands violently into the ground, and the surface of the Inheritance Land turned black as ink instantly, a massive surge of Dark Energy erupting from below to envelop him. The Dark Energy spiraled upward, forming a huge Dark Vortex, from which faint, mournful wails drifted, as if countless wronged souls were struggling within.
Ao Li felt the overwhelming Dark Energy and dared not be careless; she summoned the full force of the Inheritance Power. The Inheritance Power gathered above her head, forming a massive Light Lotus. The lotus burst with dazzling light, illuminating the entire Inheritance Land and dispelling the gloomy aura brought by the Dark Vortex.
Ao Li swung her hands, sending the Light Lotus toward the Dark Vortex. The Light Lotus collided with the Dark Vortex, producing an earth‑shaking roar. Light and darkness intertwined, tearing at each other wildly. The Inheritance Land shuddered violently under the impact of this immense power, as if it might collapse at any moment.
Lín Jìn watched the battle anxiously from the side, his fists clenched and his palms slick with sweat. He knew Ao Li was facing great danger at that moment, yet he also trusted her strength and courage. He stayed ready, and should Ao Li be in peril, he would rush in without hesitation to fight beside her.
During the fierce clash between the Light Lotus and the Dark Vortex, the Dark Vortex began to weaken. The Light Lotus's radiance acted like a series of blades, continuously slicing the Dark Vortex. The mysterious enemy roared madly within the vortex, desperately pouring Dark Energy to keep it alive. Yet before Ao Li's mighty Inheritance Power, his efforts seemed futile.
Finally, under the relentless assault of the Light Lotus, the Dark Vortex shattered completely. The Light Lotus streaked through the vortex like a meteor, striking the mysterious enemy. He let out a desperate wail as his body faded away in the light. Unwilling, he collapsed to the ground, his eyes full of hatred and resentment, and ultimately dissolved into a wisp of black smoke.
Ao Li let out a long breath, and her tense body instantly relaxed. A weary yet satisfied smile spread across her face; the arduous battle was finally over. She slowly lifted her head, gazing at the sky above the Inheritance Land, her heart filled with countless emotions.
Lín Jìn hurried to her side, looking at her with concern, his eyes full of worry. Ao Li was wounded in many places, her clothes ragged, blood staining the hem of her skirt. Lín Jìn gently grasped Ao Li's hand and said, "Ao Li, are you alright? You were so brave just now; I'm truly proud of you."
Ao Li looked at Lín Jìn, tears of gratitude glimmering in her eyes, "I'm fine, Lín Jìn. Thanks to the Inheritance Power; otherwise I truly wouldn't know how to defeat him."
Lín Jìn helped Ao Li sit on a nearby stone, pulled some healing pills from his pouch and handed them to her, "Quick, take these pills to restore your strength. You expended too much just now."
Ao Li took the pills and placed them in her mouth. They dissolved instantly, a warm current flowing down her throat and spreading quickly through her body. She could feel her wounds gradually healing and her stamina slowly returning.
"Lín Jìn, who exactly is this mysterious enemy? Why does he want to stop us from seeking the truth?" Ao Li asked, her eyes full of doubt.
Lín Jìn frowned, thought for a moment, then said, "I'm not sure either, but judging from his actions, a huge conspiracy must be hidden behind him. Moreover, he seems very familiar with this Inheritance Land; perhaps the secrets here are closely tied to his plot."
Ao Li nodded, "I think so too. We must keep delving deeper and uncover the truth behind all this."
After resting for a while, Ao Li's injuries had improved considerably. She stood up and surveyed the surroundings. The Inheritance Land was a wreck from the recent battle, yet the runes on the walls still glimmered with mysterious light.
"Lín Jìn, look at these runes; they seem to be guiding us onward," Ao Li said, pointing at the wall runes.
Lín Jìn followed the direction of Ao Li's finger and saw the rune light converging toward one direction. He nodded, "It seems we should follow the runes' guidance to see what lies ahead."
The two walked along the direction indicated by the runes, and along the way they noticed more and more murals appearing on the surrounding walls. These murals depicted strange creatures and mysterious rituals, and some seemed to recount the history of this Inheritance Land.
"Look at this mural; it seems to tell of a great battle. One side is a deity with great power, the other a dark demon," Ao Li said, pointing at a mural.
Lín Jìn examined the mural closely, "Perhaps this Inheritance Land is the relic of that great battle, and the mysterious enemy we just faced may have some connection to those demons."
As they ventured deeper, a massive stone door appeared ahead. Intricate patterns were carved on it, resembling an ancient script, but Lín Jìn and Ao Li could not decipher them.
"What could be behind this door?" Ao Li asked, eyes full of curiosity as she stared at the stone door.
Lín Jìn approached the stone door and examined its carvings closely. Suddenly, he noticed a recessed spot that matched the shape of a jade pendant he wore. His heart stirred; he took out the pendant and placed it into the indentation.
The moment the pendant was set, the patterns on the stone door lit up instantly, emitting a dazzling glow. Then the door slowly opened, and a surge of powerful energy rushed forward. Beyond lay a vast chamber filled with strange artifacts and crystals that shimmered with light.
The two stepped cautiously into the chamber; Ao Li picked up a crystal that seemed to contain a great power. As soon as she touched it, a stream of information burst from the crystal into her mind.
"Lín Jìn, I think I'm seeing memories of this Inheritance Land. It was once the ruins of a mighty civilization that wielded a power capable of altering the cosmic order. Yet a civil war led to its ultimate destruction. The mysterious enemy we faced may be a remnant of that civilization, seeking to reclaim that power for some unspeakable purpose," Ao Li relayed the information to Lín Jìn.
Lín Jìn's complexion grew serious after hearing this, "It seems the danger we face is greater than we imagined. We must quickly uncover what that power is and how to thwart the mysterious enemy's plot."
At that moment, a deep roar echoed from the depths of the chamber, as if a massive creature had been awakened. Lín Jìn and Ao Li exchanged a glance, eyes alert; they knew a new challenge had arrived…
