Chapter 107: Lingqi's Nightmare

~7 min read 1,230 words

The suppressed Underworld King Guard let out a roar, the gray-white air currents on his body surging to shatter the frost, instantly dispelling the slowing effect upon him. At the same time, the Underworld King Guard suddenly raised the greatsword in his hand and brought it down heavily toward Lingyun.

Luo Yexi and Busujima Saeko swung their weapons simultaneously, clashing with the Underworld King Guard's greatsword. With a muffled thud, both sides retreated at once; neither had gained the upper hand.

In the rear, Alice continuously condensed various spells in her hands, launching them toward the Underworld King Guard. However, the Underworld King Guard seemed to realize the powerful threat Alice's spells posed, and the gray air currents around his body formed a shield, continuously neutralizing Alice's Magic attacks.

"Where is Lingqi?" After repelling the Underworld King Guard once more, Lingyun noticed that Lingqi had not launched a single attack from start to finish, and his gaze involuntarily swept toward her.

At the very back of the group, Lingqi watched the Underworld King Guard locked in a bitter struggle with Lingyun and the others. Her body trembled incessantly, her face was deathly pale, her eyes were filled with fear, and she could not even hold the pistol in her hand steady.

"What is this situation? Could it be that Lingqi has met this Underworld King Guard before and suffered a great loss at his hands?" Lingyun parried the Underworld King Guard's greatsword with his sword, feeling a sense of doubt in his heart.

Watching the Underworld King Guard trapped in the encirclement, fragments of memories that Lingqi had forgotten began to emerge in her mind, gradually piecing themselves together until a blurred memory segment appeared before her eyes.

In a lush forest, a young girl was caught in a bitter struggle. The girl's figure was very blurry, making it impossible to see her face, but Lingqi recognized at a glance that this girl was herself.

Before the girl stood a tall figure that looked no different from the Underworld King Guard before them. If one had to point out a difference, it was that this Underworld King Guard looked even more burly and possessed even greater strength; a single strike from him could have reduced the Underworld King Guard they were currently facing to dust. Intricate patterns were carved into this Underworld King Guard's armor; if anyone stared at these patterns, they might be unknowingly led toward death.

The girl looked very disheveled; she had been locked in combat with this fellow for a long time and had almost reached her limit. Her dress was tattered, and fresh blood continuously seeped from her wounds. Her left hand hung limp, clearly having lost all strength. The girl bit her lip hard, raised the pistol in her right hand, and fired repeatedly at the Underworld King Guard.

"Roar—" A roar erupted from the Underworld King Guard's mouth as he swept his greatsword violently, sending a gray-white Sword Qi lashing out madly. The Sword Qi obliterated the incoming bullets and then lunged crazily toward the girl. The girl dodged the Sword Qi with an agile sway. However, this movement tugged at her wounds once again, causing her figure to falter.

Seeing that he had been unable to take down this opponent for so long, the Underworld King Guard roared in anger and slammed his Long sword into the ground. The patterns on the Underworld King Guard's armor vanished instantly, and countless gray-white air currents spread outward with him as the center. Wherever the currents passed, all the trees were coated in a gray-white layer before turning into ash.

The girl was terrified; if she were touched by these currents, the consequences would be unimaginable. Yet, to her horror, she discovered that at some point, strands of gray-white air currents had already coiled around her, leaving her unable to move. She could only watch helplessly as those gray-white air currents seeped into her body bit by bit.

A terrifying consciousness slammed into the girl's mind; it seemed as if a powerful consciousness in the netherworld wanted to occupy hers. The girl fought back, but the effect was minimal; her own consciousness felt as if it were being crushed bit by bit. This pain, reaching deep into her soul, brought her to the brink of collapse.

Lingqi watched the girl's suffering, a chill running through her own body as if that pain were manifesting in her once more, causing her to tremble violently.

"Is it reaching the limit?" The girl's consciousness was already blurred, and her eyes were filled with gray-white light.

Just as the girl was about to collapse, two powerful forces descended from the sky, tearing the gray-white air currents enveloping the girl—along with the Underworld King Guard not far away—into pieces. Two blurred figures appeared before the girl.

"It seems we arrived a step too late. Can you save her, my lord?" one of the figures asked.

"Let us try. First, expel the power of the Underworld King of the End from her body, then send her to his side. With his ability, he should be able to wear away the Death Qi deep within her," a figure holding a Long sword said.

"Do it!" The light emitted from their hands enveloped the girl.

The memory fragment stopped abruptly there. The fear in Lingqi's eyes intensified, and specks of gray-white light appeared within her scarlet pupils.

Four HP Slots of the Underworld King Guard had already been depleted. Although they lacked Lingqi's assistance, Lingyun and the other three relied on their coordination to keep the Underworld King Guard firmly suppressed.

After the fourth HP Slot vanished, the Underworld King Guard let out a sudden roar, the gray-white air currents on his body surging madly and knocking Lingyun and the other three flying.

"The BOSS has gone berserk, everyone be careful!" A look of gravity flashed in Lingyun's eyes as golden light erupted from his Long sword, and he struck the Underworld King Guard's swinging sword with a heavy blow.

Alice seized the opportunity, and the long-accumulated Fire Meteor flew from her hands, 轟ing toward the Underworld King Guard. The Underworld King Guard suddenly raised his greatsword, and gray-white air currents condensed on the blade to block the incoming Fire Meteor.

The Fire Meteor collided with the greatsword, erupting in a wave of scorching heat. The Underworld King Guard retreated repeatedly, the gray-white air currents on his body having been exhausted by this strike.

Seeing the situation tilting in an unfavorable direction, the Underworld King Guard grew anxious. He swung his greatsword repeatedly, forcing Lingyun and the others back. Afterward, his gaze locked directly onto Lingqi, and the faint gray-white light appearing in Lingqi's eyes, in particular, drew the Underworld King Guard's full attention.

"Roar!" The Underworld King Guard suddenly let out a roar, leaped high into the air, and charged toward Lingqi from mid-air.

"Sister Lingqi, watch out!" Alice's voice brought Lingqi, who had been lost in fear, back to her senses.

However, the Underworld King Guard had already reached her, and his greatsword was about to strike her.

Lingqi wanted to dodge, but she found that her body would not obey her at all; she could not move.

Watching the greatsword drawing ever closer, Lingqi gave a bitter smile: "Is it ending? But why do I feel some reluctance in my heart?"
