Chapter 17: Departure, High School of the Dead
"That's not right. Why would a distress signal from another world appear in this place?" Lingyun asked.
"This was given to me by the Sea of Origin!" Ruoxi replied.
"The Sea of Origin?" Lingyun was even more surprised this time.
"Mm-hmm, that's right, it's the Sea of Origin. I think that world must have sent the distress signal to the Sea of Origin first, and then the Sea of Origin sought me out," Ruoxi nodded earnestly.
"That's not right, though. Why would the Sea of Origin seek you out?" The doubt in Lingyun's heart grew even stronger.
"I think the one the Sea of Origin wanted to find wasn't me, but you, Brother!" Ruoxi tapped her cheek with her finger.
"Find me? Why? No, wait—why would the Sea of Origin seek me out? Could it be that the Sea of Origin has consciousness?" Lingyun was greatly shocked.
"What's there to be surprised about? Even worlds have consciousness; it wouldn't be strange for a more profound existence like the Sea of Origin to have its own consciousness!" Ruoxi wore an expression that said he was making a fuss over nothing. "However, only the two of us know about this for now."
"That's still not right. I've been to the Sea of Origin quite a few times before, but apart from some evil gods wandering within it, I've never seen any other existences!" Lingyun was still somewhat skeptical.
"Brother, you really are a blockhead! Who said that the consciousness of the Sea of Origin has to stay in the Sea of Origin all the time?" Ruoxi rolled her eyes at Lingyun. "The consciousness of the Sea of Origin doesn't stay in the Sea of Origin; it constantly wanders through various worlds. Perhaps this time, that other world sending this signal is the work of the Sea of Origin's consciousness. After all, that world is quite weak; it might only have a vague consciousness, for all we know."
"Leaving the Sea of Origin to wander through various worlds... it seems this consciousness is truly not simple." Lingyun rubbed his chin. "Wait, that's not right. How do you know all these things?"
"That's just information I caught in the Sea of Origin." A flicker of unnaturalness appeared in Ruoxi's eyes, but she quickly covered it up, and even Ling Tian did not notice. "Oh, Brother, aren't you going to take a look at the content of this distress letter from the other world?"
"Mm, you're right. Ruoxi, open the distress letter so I can take a look." Lingyun nodded.
Ruoxi tapped her small hand on the Light Ball, and it shattered, presenting a subtitle before them. The general content was as follows: A zombie virus about to spread throughout the entire world has undergone some unknown changes due to the influence of an unidentified power, potentially causing the world to collapse. Lingyun is needed to go and help prevent the world from heading toward destruction. After the matter is concluded, that world will provide a portion of World Power and Law Information as compensation.
"It looks pretty good. At least the compensation consists of things we need, and the difficulty shouldn't be too high. You already said that world is very weak, so the combat power born from the zombie virus shouldn't exceed my capabilities." Lingyun nodded slightly. "However, what are my missions?"
"As for missions, there are several. One is to protect the Fate Child of that world from dying in the zombie tide, so as to avoid the collapse of the World Line that would lead the world to the brink of destruction. Another is to eliminate as many zombies as possible to reduce the damage this incident causes to the world. The last one is to try and find the culprit behind this event. If the final mission is completed, that world will give us extra compensation; I estimate it to be something like World Origin."
"World Origin?" Lingyun's pupils constricted slightly. "Is the World Consciousness of that world willing to give that up? This is Origin we're talking about!"
"Origin is indeed important, but if the world is destroyed, no amount of Origin will be of any use. As long as the world isn't destroyed, the Origin can be replenished. To prevent itself from being destroyed, it naturally has to bring out the best things to boost your motivation!" Ruoxi curled her lips.
"That's true. How much preparation time do we have?" Lingyun asked.
"No need to be too rushed. That world has already given me the Space-Time Coordinate for when the virus starts spreading and the Fate Child begins to get involved in this incident. We will depart exactly when the so-called plot begins." Ruoxi replied.
"Is that so? Then let's wait until Ye Xi breaks through to the Second Layer of the Nine Suns Heavenly Art; we can also increase our combat power a bit. Looking at Ye Xi, her breakthrough should happen within these few days. I also need to prepare some things for the apocalypse. Five days from now, we depart!" Lingyun nodded, then vanished into the Cloud Realm.
In the rented apartment, Luo Yexi sat cross-legged on the bed, massive amounts of True Qi constantly exhaling and inhaling around her, dyeing the surroundings red. Luo Yexi had now reached a Boundary state. Within her dantian, strands of powerful Nine Yang True Qi were being continuously compressed. Originally, there was only one red Light Ball in her dantian; now, the Nine Yang True Qi was about to form a second Light Ball.
Luo Yexi had been at the peak of the First Layer of the Nine Suns Heavenly Art for quite some time; this breakthrough could be said to be a natural progression. Under Luo Yexi's manipulation, the Nine Yang True Qi quickly formed a brand-new red Light Ball in her dantian. Although this Light Ball was still very weak, Luo Yexi felt that her strength had increased by at least two times.
At the moment of Luo Yexi's breakthrough, an extremely scorching aura swept outward from her as the center. Fortunately, Lingyun had already set up layers of Isolation Array in the room, preventing the neighbors from noticing the commotion here.
"Ye Xi, you've broken through?" Lingyun, who was sitting on the sofa, opened his eyes, and a trace of golden light flashed and vanished within them.
"Mm. The power of this Nine Suns Heavenly Art is truly formidable. If I hadn't had the Nine Yang Divine Art as a foundation, I'm afraid I wouldn't have been able to fully control this power all at once." Luo Yexi jumped down from the bed. A patch of scorched marks had already appeared on the mattress beneath her, clearly caused when she broke through.
"Master, are we leaving now?" Luo Yexi flashed and appeared in front of Lingyun.
"Mm, I've already helped you ask for leave. Ruoxi said that the flow of time between the two worlds is not the same, so we don't need to be that anxious. Moreover, she has already determined the Space-Time Coordinate of that world for one week from now; if the time exceeds our expectations, we will use that coordinate to return. Let's go!" Lingyun stood up, took Luo Yexi into his Heart Realm, and then vanished from the room.
Several days ago, Lingyun had already told Luo Yexi about receiving the distress letter from the other world, and at the same time, he had introduced her to Ruoxi; the two of them got along quite well.
"Ruoxi, we are ready. By the way, tell me about the situation in that world—for example, what is the name of that world's Fate Child!" Lingyun said.
"The Fate Child of that world? Mm, found it. The name is Komuro Takashi!"
"Komuro Takashi? Damn, isn't that High School of the Dead? It seems the information from that world was projected into this world." A hint of surprise appeared in Lingyun's eyes.
"That world has already prepared your identities. However, Brother, the circulation of information between worlds will always have distortion. Please, Brother, do not let your thinking be disturbed by the so-called plot." Ruoxi reminded him.
"I know this. I've been tricked by it before, so I won't suffer a loss this time. Don't worry. Alright, let's go!" Lingyun gave Ruoxi a smile.
Ruoxi nodded, and then a ray of light submerged into Lingyun's brow. Lingyun analyzed the Space-Time Coordinate Ruoxi had transmitted to him, his figure twisted, and he appeared on the River of Time and Space. After confirming the direction, Lingyun turned into a streak of light and submerged into the River of Time and Space.
