Chapter 223
At night, Lingyun leaned against a large tree; although he was standing there, the people around seemed not to have noticed that there was an extra person.
Lingyun checked the watch in his hand; the time he had agreed upon with Seryu was almost up, but Seryu's figure had yet to appear in the vicinity.
"It seems she isn't coming!" Lingyun muttered to himself and prepared to leave.
"Huff, huff..." Just as Lingyun turned around, a figure suddenly squeezed out from the crowd and appeared before him, panting—it was Seryu.
"What is this?" Lingyun's gaze landed on Seryu.
The current Seryu was no longer wearing the Imperial Guard uniform he had seen her in on the street during the day; instead, she was dressed in casual clothes, which invisibly added a sense of girlish cuteness to her.
"You really are punctual; if you had been one step later, I would have left," Lingyun said, looking Seryu up and down.
"As if I wanted to find you! If my intuition hadn't suddenly told me that I would miss something very important if I didn't come to find you, I wouldn't have come at all!" Seryu rolled her eyes at Lingyun.
"Is that so?" Lingyun eyed Seryu, secretly muttering to himself, wondering if this was yet another thing being pushed by the World Consciousness behind the scenes.
"Since you're here, then follow me. Remember, no matter what you see on the way, you are not allowed to speak, nor are you allowed to act recklessly!" Lingyun said indifferently.
"You..." A flash of anger crossed Seryu's eyes, but watching Lingyun turn and leave directly, she gritted her teeth and chased after him anyway.
"What are we doing here?" Lingyun led Seryu in circles to the back of a mansion; Seryu frowned as she looked at this familiar place.
"Letting you witness the dark side of the Imperial Capital!" A mysterious smile curled the corners of Lingyun's mouth. "Tell me, what kind of person do you think the owner of this mansion is?"
"The owner of this mansion is a very kind old gentleman!" Seryu said. "I have seen him use food to help those commoners more than once!"
"Heh, is he really that kind of person? I tell you, people like him are the easiest targets for Night Raid!" Lingyun said.
"Such a good person would actually become a target for Night Raid? Night Raid is indeed the greatest evil!" Hearing Lingyun mention Night Raid, Seryu's face twisted instantly, and her tone became extremely chilling.
"Is that so? Now, I will let you witness why the owner of this mansion would become a target for Night Raid!" Lingyun grabbed Seryu's shoulder with one hand and leaped directly into the mansion with her.
Seeing Lingyun's actions, Seryu wanted to speak, but she was horrified to discover in an instant that not only could she not move her body, but she couldn't even make a sound; it turned out that to prevent her from acting recklessly, Lingyun had directly sealed her acupoints. As for Koro in her arms, after being glanced at indifferently by Lingyun, it went silent.
Lingyun seemed extremely familiar with this mansion, leading the stiff Seryu through twists and turns until they appeared beside a room shortly after. Lingyun tapped his right index finger against the wall, released a burst of hidden energy, and a small hole appeared silently in the wall. Through this small hole, one could faintly hear the conversation coming from inside.
"Listen carefully to what they are saying!" Lingyun brought Seryu's ear close to the small hole.
At first, Seryu was extremely furious at Lingyun's actions; if she could move, she would definitely have made Lingyun receive the punishment of justice at the very first moment. However, she was currently unable to move, passively listening to the conversation inside the room.
But soon, her eyes widened. She had been serving in the Imperial Guard for quite some time and naturally knew many famous figures in the Imperial Capital; although the voices coming through the small hole were somewhat muffled, she still clearly heard who the speakers were. However, the dirty deals appearing one after another in their conversation made her eyes widen in disbelief. Lingyun saw this scene, sighed slightly, and then unsealed her acupoints.
"This isn't true, right! This isn't you acting to show me, tell me!" Feeling that she could speak again, Seryu grabbed Lingyun's collar tightly and roared somewhat hysterically.
The moment Seryu made a sound, Lingyun knew his position had definitely been exposed, so he dragged Seryu and disappeared directly into the darkness.
The people talking in the room were all startled, and then a roar was heard from the room as several people rushed out in a hurry. At the same time, the guards in the mansion also moved, frantically starting to search for the people who had just been there. But by this time, Lingyun had already taken Seryu away from the place, and these guards' efforts were all in vain.
"This is definitely just an exception; the people in the Imperial Capital would absolutely not be like this!" Seryu, being led by Lingyun into a small alley, argued somewhat stubbornly.
"No rush, in this night, we still have plenty of time to witness the deeds of your so-called embodiment of justice." Lingyun said with a calm face. "Tell me, which house are we going to next?"
After Seryu gritted her teeth and squeezed out a name, Lingyun took her and disappeared into the alley once again.
This night was, for Seryu, absolutely one of the darkest nights since she was born. Under Lingyun's guidance, she witnessed the true faces of the nobles in this Imperial Capital who supposedly represented justice. Although she had been led astray by Ogre on her path of growth, this did not mean she was someone who could not distinguish right from wrong. What she saw this night had completely shattered the worldview Ogre had built for her.
Especially when she heard that many of these people mentioned her master Ogre and felt regret for his death, she was horrified to discover that the master she had always respected the most was actually one of them. This news was like a bolt from the blue, completely stunning Seryu. Thinking of all the dark things her master had done in secret, Seryu felt her entire world had gone dark.
"Seryu, what is your opinion now on the justice you speak of?" On a wide Rooftop, Lingyun leaned against the railing and looked at Seryu, who was curled into a ball while clutching Koro tightly at his feet.
"I don't know either..." Seryu's tone was now somewhat dry, her eyes hollow.
"I know you can't accept this kind of thing for a moment, but this is the truth. If you have any thoughts, go to the place where we met today and crush this thing; I will naturally appear before you then!" Lingyun placed a Jade Pendant into Seryu's hand.
Watching the direction in which Lingyun left, Seryu hugged Koro in her arms tighter: "Koro, what do you think I should do?"
