Chapter 240: Saving a Life
"Meow—" Just at this moment, a shrill cat cry rang out, and Chelsea lunged at Lingyun, clearly intent on going down with him.
Lingyun reached out and easily grabbed Chelsea by the scruff of her neck. No matter how much she thrashed her limbs, she couldn't touch Lingyun.
Watching Lingyun holding Chelsea, Najenda couldn't help but cough lightly and said, "Um, Mr. Lingyun, could you please put Chelsea down and turn her back to normal?"
"No problem!" Lingyun said quite readily.
Lingyun tossed Chelsea away with a casual flick, then snapped his fingers. A puff of white smoke suddenly erupted from the cat flying in mid-air, and it transformed into a beautiful young girl. The girl's expression was a bit dazed, clearly not having recovered from the change in her body, which resulted in her landing with a thud right on her bottom, the pain even bringing tears to her eyes.
Chelsea was stunned for a moment, then quickly sprang up from the ground and began looking herself over. Finding nothing wrong with her body, Chelsea turned and lunged toward Lingyun: "You damn bastard, I'll fight you to the death!"
Just as Chelsea was darting toward Lingyun, she suddenly heard a familiar-sounding bell chime. This sound made her movements freeze instantly. She raised her right hand in shock and uncertainty; tied around her right wrist was an exquisite Bell!
Thinking of the painful experience this Bell had brought her, Chelsea directed all her fury toward it for a moment. But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't take the Bell off her hand.
"It's useless. This Bell was tied on by Master himself, and only Master can take it off!" Akame, who was to the side, spoke up.
After struggling to no avail, Chelsea finally chose to give up. She looked toward Lingyun, took a deep breath to calm her emotions, and then asked, "When did you discover my identity!"
"Discover your identity? I knew the moment you first appeared before me!" Lingyun's lighthearted words caused Chelsea's figure to turn gray instantly.
"Since you already knew I was there to assassinate you, why didn't you kill me or expose me at that time?" Chelsea asked.
"After all, you are Akame's companion, so I couldn't very well kill you. But since you dared to come and assassinate me, how could I not give you a little punishment!" Lingyun shrugged.
Lingyun's words caused Chelsea to turn completely gray, and she went off to crouch in a corner. Recalling the days she had spent, it was absolutely a history of blood and tears for her. As the number one assassin of the Night Raid headquarters, not only was she forced to turn into a cat, but she also had to learn to act cute and beg for affection like a kitten—it was simply an unspeakable history of blood and tears!
"Cough, cough. I wonder what your opinion is of the Empire and the Revolutionary Army, Mr. Lingyun?" Najenda coughed lightly and asked.
"The Empire is already rotten; its collapse is a foregone conclusion. As for your Revolutionary Army, I cannot evaluate it for the time being," Lingyun said indifferently.
"Why?" Najenda asked, somewhat puzzled.
"That is something you must investigate yourself. After all, what you see is not necessarily the truth!" Lingyun said pointedly.
"What I see is not necessarily the truth?" Najenda frowned slightly, then her expression turned somewhat ugly, clearly having thought of something.
"It is not impossible for me to join the side of the Revolutionary Army, but you must let me see the Revolutionary Army do something that satisfies me!" Lingyun added.
"Master, let's put other matters aside for now and come take a look at Lubbock's injuries. His condition is very tricky!" Akame, who was to the side, spoke up.
Lingyun nodded slightly and followed Akame toward Lubbock's room.
"BOSS, what's wrong with you? Why did your expression become so ugly after that bastard said those things?" Seeing Lingyun leave, Chelsea ran to Najenda's side and asked.
"It's nothing, just some things I need to verify when the time comes. Moreover, I always feel that this person gives me a familiar feeling; I must have seen him somewhere before!" Najenda said.
"Oh, really?" Chelsea's eyes rolled around, wondering what she was thinking.
"Master, look. The trickiest part of Lubbock's injuries is the toxin carried within that strange flame. I have no way to remove this toxin; I can only suppress it for now! And looking at it this way, Lubbock won't be able to hold on much longer!" Akame looked at Lubbock lying on the bed, a trace of worry flashing in her eyes.
Lingyun's gaze fell on Lubbock, and a flash of understanding crossed his eyes. Just as Akame said, the trickiest thing about Lubbock was indeed the fire poison; after all, this flame was mixed with a small amount of Underworld Power. If Lubbock weren't a Teigu User with a constitution much stronger than an ordinary person, he would likely have already perished under the erosion of the Underworld Power. However, looking at him now, he had already lost half his life.
Lingyun placed his right hand on Lubbock's right wrist, and his Source Power converted into Nine Yang Power, continuously pouring into Lubbock's body. Before the Underworld Power inside Lubbock could react, it was split apart by the powerful Nine Yang Power and isolated into individual small battlefields.
Facing the aggressive Nine Yang Power, the Underworld Power fought back desperately, but it was helpless as it was like water without a source, receiving no support. Under the constant grinding of the Nine Yang Power, it eventually dissipated into nothingness.
After completely eradicating the Underworld Power within Lubbock, Lingyun let out a soft breath and slowly stood up. Lubbock looked quite miserable now, with blood seeping out in many places on his body. After all, the battlefield where the Nine Yang Power and Underworld Power clashed was his own body; although Lingyun had tried his best to suppress it, some power still leaked out and caused some damage to his body.
"The poison is cleared, but looking at his state, he'll probably need to rest for a while!" Lingyun spread his hands.
Akame looked at Lubbock lying on the bed and nodded slightly: "I understand. For the next period of time, I will make sure he rests well."
Watching Akame's dazed and cute nodding, Lingyun couldn't help but silently cast a sympathetic glance at Lubbock on the bed. One had to know that Akame could be very airheaded at times; what she might do in this situation would depend on Lubbock's luck.
"Master, I saw how you were talking to the BOSS earlier; you seem to be leaning toward the Night Raid side, but why don't you just join us directly?" In the hallway, Akame asked, somewhat puzzled.
"Night Raid is Night Raid, and the Revolutionary Army is the Revolutionary Army; in my eyes, the two are not the same. Moreover, not everyone in the Revolutionary Army is a good person, but Najenda doesn't know this yet. Only by letting her see the true face of some people in the Revolutionary Army can she truly grow into a pillar for the construction of the future new nation!" Lingyun said with a smile.
"Hmm—" Akame didn't quite understand.
"Forget it, you don't need to worry about such troublesome things; just leave it to Najenda!" Lingyun smiled and patted her head.
