Chapter 25: The Night of the Apocalypse
When Lingyun and his group returned to Nanlixiang's house, all the survivors breathed a huge sigh of relief.
The combat prowess of Lingyun and his two companions was something they had all witnessed; if they had died outside while clearing out the dead, it would undoubtedly have been a massive blow to them now. After all, among them, no such formidable combat strength existed.
Lingyun walked into the main hall and saw Hirano Kouta and Komuro Takashi using tools to pry open a cabinet.
"What are you doing? It's not right to just destroy other people's things," Busujima Saeko said.
"We found a box of bullets in the cabinet on the second floor. If there are no accidents, there might be an unexpected surprise inside!" Hirano Kouta said with an excited look on his face.
With a "Click," the cabinet was pried open. Looking at the contents, Hirano Kouta immediately entered his fanatical military-otaku mode. Gazing at these powerful firearms and the Crossbow, which emitted a dangerous luster, was just like seeing a peerless beauty.
"Oh, oh, oh! This is an M14 Rifle! Although it's semi-automatic, that's fine; full-auto fire on the M14 series is just a waste of bullets anyway. The magazine can hold twenty rounds—this is illegal in Japan, heh heh..."
"Um, what's wrong with Hirano-san?" Hearing the commotion, Igou Hisashi also crowded over, but he was startled by the firearms. "My god, what is this?"
"I guess he's entered military-otaku mode," Lingyun shrugged.
"Knight SR-25 semi-automatic Sniper rifle—no, wait, you can't get this stuff in Japan. This must be a complete modification based on an AR-10. This is my favorite type of sniper rifle." Hirano Kouta stroked the gun in his hands with a look of infatuation, as if it were his lover.
"What's this?" Igou Hisashi pulled the Crossbow out of the cabinet.
"This is a descendant of the bow once used by Robin Hood, the Barnett Wildcat C5 Crossbow, made in England. This is a crossbow that can even hunt bears," Hirano Kouta explained to him.
"Uh, I think I read in a book before that Barnett is a company registered in Meiguo?" Igou Hisashi asked with some confusion.
"Uh, oh right. Looks like I remembered wrong!" Hirano Kouta scratched the back of his head, feeling a bit embarrassed.
"What about this last one?" Lingyun took out the final gun from the cabinet.
"This is an Ithaca M-37 shotgun, a quite violent gun made by the Meiguo people. It was also used in the Vietnam War. It's lightweight, easy to use, and has quite powerful force," Hirano Kouta explained with an excited look.
"Oh?" Lingyun smiled slightly, "Click," he chambered a round, then aimed the muzzle at Hirano Kouta.
This gave Hirano Kouta a huge fright, and he quickly dodged, saying, "Even if there are no bullets, please don't point a gun at others. The ones you can aim at..."
"The only ones I can aim at are them, aren't they? But, you must remember, if anyone threatens my survival, then even if they are human, I will not be polite!" Lingyun moved the muzzle away and said calmly.
"Yes, I understand!" Hirano Kouta was intimidated by Lingyun's aura and couldn't help but stand at attention and answer loudly.
"Alright, you all can distribute these firearms yourselves. I don't need this kind of thing." Lingyun waved his hand and placed the gun in his hand into Komuro Takashi's hands. "As for shooting techniques, I heard that you, Hirano-san, have received training, so I'll leave it to you."
"Understood!"
When Lingyun arrived at the second-floor hall, almost everyone was resting on the sofa. Marikawa Shizuka waved at Lingyun, signaling him to come over and rest for a while too.
"Oh my, these two students look very unfamiliar. Why haven't I seen them on campus?" Marikawa Shizuka tapped her cheek with her finger, looking at Lingyun and the other, and asked in a daze. "Can you tell me your names?"
"I am an exchange student from the Celestial Empire. According to the rules, today was the day to report, but it turns out this kind of thing happened!" Luo Yexi spread her hands helplessly, not even blinking as she lied. "My name is Luo Yexi, and this is my guardian, Lingyun."
"Luo-san and Ling-kun, is it?" Marikawa Shizuka nodded.
"Shina-jin?" An exclamation came from the sofa.
Everyone turned their heads to look; Takagi Saya was staring at them with an astonished gaze, a trace of disgust in her eyes.
Lingyun frowned slightly, and Luo Yexi, who was beside him, was not happy. She had seen the term "Shina-jin" before; it was a derogatory term for people from the Celestial Empire. Although she was not a true person of the Celestial Empire, her master was. Daring to use such a derogatory term against her master was far more serious than insulting her.
"Bang!" With a loud sound, Luo Yexi slapped the table directly, the noise startling everyone present.
"This student, don't forget how you rushed out of that campus full of dead bodies. If I hear that disrespectful term again, be careful, or I won't be polite to you!"
Takagi Saya raised an eyebrow and was just about to retort, but she saw that almost everyone was looking at her with reproachful eyes. Only then did she remember that this was the end of the world. Even if her father possessed powerful authority here, he was probably struggling to save himself now. Moreover, the reason their group was able to survive was at least 60% due to the efforts of Lingyun and his companion; compared to them, her own role in the team was almost zero. She was certain that if these people were asked to choose between them and her, they would definitely choose Lingyun and his companion.
In this apocalypse, although her intelligence could be of some use, by comparison, absolute force was the most important thing. Thinking of this, Takagi Saya couldn't help but shrink her head and fall silent.
Seeing Takagi Saya fall silent, Luo Yexi didn't say anything more, just sat on the sofa and began to close her eyes to rest. After all, they were still a group, and causing conflict for no reason would cause no small amount of trouble for their future survival in the apocalypse. Not to mention, they would most likely have to go to Takagi Saya's family territory in the future; if she offended her too deeply now, it would be hard to avoid a lot of trouble later. Although she wasn't afraid, the fewer troubles, the better.
Lingyun just shook his head slightly. He knew that the reason Takagi Saya was like this was also influenced by her father. After all, having grown up in a right-wing group, it was normal to have prejudices against people from the Celestial Empire. However, in this apocalypse where everyone's primary goal was self-preservation, and the two of them were the biggest guarantee for this team's survival, causing conflict with them at this time was indeed an unwise choice.
"Although she is smart, she is still too young!" Lingyun sighed inwardly.
