Chapter 29: Saving Alice
In the afternoon, those originally left to guard the Villa also went out to collect some supplies under the protection of Ling Tian and his companion. Although there were quite a few incidents at the beginning, because Ling Tian and his companion were protecting them, no accidents ultimately occurred. However, in Ling Tian's eyes, these people had already dared to face the dead and possessed the qualifications to survive in this apocalypse.
Night fell once again, and everyone returned to the Villa. During this time, many people were discussing the road ahead. Staying in this place forever was absolutely not an option; firstly, the defensive strength of this place was very weak, and the Villa's gate, while seemingly sturdy, could absolutely not withstand the impact of a large number of the dead. Secondly, their weapons, ammunition, and even daily supplies were limited; they had to find a survivor gathering place large enough for the vast majority of people here to survive in this apocalypse.
After a round of discussion, everyone set their sights on one place: Takagi Saya's home. As the leader of the right-wing forces in this city, Takagi Saya's father absolutely possessed powerful armed forces, sufficient supplies, and enough charisma; it was entirely possible and within his capability to establish a survivor gathering place in the apocalypse.
However, it was already late, and acting at night was absolutely disadvantageous to humans. Everyone was prepared, moving various things onto the Humvee at Nanlixiang's house and another Off-road vehicle. This Off-road vehicle was discovered by Lingyun in a villa that was already empty; it had undergone a certain degree of modification, possessing powerful horsepower and a certain level of resistance to EMR. Moreover, among this group of survivors, there was someone who knew how to drive, so they could reach their destination in the shortest possible time.
The sky had already darkened, and Lingyun also found a place to start resting. Although his current strength far exceeded that of an ordinary person, he still belonged to the ranks of humans and would also feel sleepy.
"Bang!" Just as Lingyun was resting, a gunshot startled Lingyun awake.
"What's going on?" Lingyun opened his eyes, a sharp glint flashing through them, and he darted toward the direction the gunshot came from.
Following the sound, Ling Tian arrived at the second-floor Rooftop. Looking closely, it turned out to be Hirano Kouta holding a Sniper rifle, standing on the balcony and aiming at something, and Igou Hisashi was also on the side.
"Why did you suddenly fire?" Lingyun asked, looking at the two people present. He had previously emphasized that in the absence of an emergency, firing was not allowed without permission. On one hand, it was because bullets were scarce, and on the other, because the sound of gunfire easily attracted more of the dead.
With a "swish," Luo Yexi also appeared on the Rooftop, looking as if she had just woken up as well.
"Ling-san, please save that little girl; I will cover you from here!" Hirano Kouta looked at Lingyun with a hopeful expression.
"Hmm?" Lingyun looked into the distance with his vision that far exceeded that of an ordinary person; it turned out that the little loli Alice from the original story had appeared, but her father had already died under someone else's blade.
Lingyun's gaze fell on the street; the dead that had been cleared by them the day before yesterday had appeared once again, and their numbers were quite a bit higher than before. However, this was not a very big problem for him.
"Ye Xi, come with me!" Lingyun discovered that some of the dead were already approaching Alice. "Student Hirano, you are responsible for covering that little girl!"
"Wait, Ling-san, how do you plan to get over there? It's a full hundred meters away from here, and there are so many of the dead on the road!" Igou Hisashi blocked Lingyun's path.
"As for this, just watch!" A mysterious smile tugged at the corner of Lingyun's mouth. "Ye Xi, let's go!"
In the astonished gazes of Hirano Kouta and Igou Hisashi, Lingyun and his companion flew directly off the balcony and landed lightly on the perimeter wall. Afterward, the two of them gathered their Qi and leaped toward Alice's direction.
Watching the two of them leaping and flying above the houses, Igou Hisashi looked at Hirano Kouta with some difficulty: "That, Student Hirano, I didn't see wrong, did I?"
"I think neither of us saw wrong; could this be the legendary Kung Fu? It's truly too astonishing!" Clearly, Hirano Kouta was also somewhat incredulous.
The third person to appear on the balcony was Busujima Saeko; she had already heard the conversation of the people on the Rooftop earlier. She looked at the backs of Lingyun and his companion, a smile curling at the corner of her mouth. She suddenly felt that the decision she had made earlier was not wrong at all.
At this moment, Alice was squatting in the corner of the courtyard, crying while murmuring: "Don't... don't come over... I haven't done anything bad... why is it like this... Daddy... Mommy... I'm so scared... where are you..."
In front of her was that little puppy named Zeke; this little guy was actually quite brave, barking loudly at the dead that were closing in.
Just as one of the dead opened its mouth and was about to bite Alice, two black figures descended from the sky, slicing that dead one into two pieces.
"Now, little one, are you okay? Don't worry, hold on a little longer, I will take you away from this place immediately." Luo Yexi smiled slightly at Alice, the Long sword in her hand waving, and she quickly began to clear the surrounding dead.
"Ah, Big Sister, be careful, behind you!" Alice screamed.
Behind the clothes rack, another dead one was hiding and was pouncing toward Luo Yexi. But Lingyun's speed was faster; just as Alice spoke, he had already sliced off that dead one's head.
Subsequently, Luo Yexi took Alice's hand and arrived before the remains of Alice's father. Looking at her father's remains, Alice tugged on Luo Yexi's clothes and asked softly: "Big Sister, Big Brother, is Daddy... dead?"
"I'm sorry, if we had come a little earlier, then your father wouldn't have died." Luo Yexi picked up Alice, her tone somewhat low.
Lingyun sighed on the side, picked up a piece of clothing from the clothes rack, and spread it over the remains of Alice's father before him.
"Regardless of anything else, this is a great father, and also a father worthy of everyone's respect."
"No!" Alice shook her head firmly. "Big Sister and Big Brother were able to come and save Alice; Alice is already very grateful. Alice really, really..."
Hearing that Alice had started to choke up, Luo Yexi patted her back: "Your daddy died to protect you; now that you are safe, I think his spirit in heaven will also be comforted." As she spoke, Luo Yexi was slightly distracted, not knowing what she was thinking of.
"Don't worry, don't you still have me?" Lingyun naturally knew what Luo Yexi was thinking, gently patted her shoulder, and comforted her.
"That's right, I still have Master, but I only have Master now!" Luo Yexi looked at Lingyun, her eyes filled with some sorrow.
"Alright, don't worry, no matter the situation, I won't abandon you, will I?" Lingyun smiled.
"Mm-hmm." A smile appeared on Luo Yexi's face.
Alice was held in Luo Yexi's arms, tears falling plop, plop, and Luo Yexi said softly: "If you want to cry, then cry it out."
"Wuu, Daddy..." As soon as Luo Yexi's words fell, Alice began to wail loudly in Luo Yexi's arms.
"Alright, alright, once you're done crying, wipe away your tears, and then live on well!" Luo Yexi comforted her.
"It looks like we should go!" Sensing the dead beginning to gather here from all around, Lingyun spoke up.
"Mm, let's go." Luo Yexi nodded; Alice in her arms had already stopped crying. She casually scooped up the puppy Zeke into her arms as well, and afterward, she leaped toward the direction of the perimeter wall.
Lingyun followed behind Luo Yexi and also leaped up; at the same time, a cold glint shot out from his hand, directly blasting the lock of this house. In this apocalypse, refusing to save someone to ensure one's own survival was, in some respects, understandable, but to kill because of it, and to kill innocent people at that, was outside his tolerance.
"Whether you can survive or not depends on your own fate." Watching the dead closing in on this place from all around, a trace of coldness flashed across Lingyun's face.
