Chapter 31: Evacuating the Villa
When Lingyun and Luo Yexi returned to the Villa Rooftop, there were already two more people on the roof: one was Komuro Takashi, and the other was Busujima Saeko.
In their hands, each held a pair of binoculars; it was clear that they had already witnessed the scene of Lingyun engaging the mutated undead earlier.
"Ling-san, what was that just now?" Igou Hisashi asked with a somewhat strained tone.
Lingyun shrugged: "As you can see, that guy was a mutated undead. I gave it a name, called 'Claw'."
"What kind of person could possibly deal with such a powerful undead?" Komuro Takashi said with a sense of resignation.
"As for dealing with this kind of undead, there are people who can!" Lingyun spoke up.
"Who?" Komuro Takashi asked immediately.
"This type of undead isn't as powerful as it looks. Although it has increased abilities in many aspects, its physical defense is no different from an ordinary undead. If it were Hirano Kouta, a single bullet from a distance could take its life," Lingyun said.
"But what if it gets close? You saw how fast that Claw was," Igou Hisashi asked.
"If it gets close, can't you and Komuro Takashi both handle it?" Lingyun's gaze landed on the two people in front of him.
"Uh, that..." A trace of hesitation appeared on Igou Hisashi's face, "Ling-san, what kind of joke are you making? Such a dangerous thing, why would I be able to handle it?"
"Whether you can handle it or not, you know in your heart. Use that power well and lead more people to survive in this apocalypse." Lingyun's gaze fell into the distance; he had a premonition in his heart that his time staying in this world would likely not be very long.
Early the next morning, everyone in the Villa was busy. After Igou Hisashi returned yesterday, he immediately gathered everyone and told them about the mutated undead that appeared last night. After some discussion, they made a decision to evacuate the Villa early today and head toward a safer place. As for the destination, it had been decided long ago: the stronghold of the city's largest faction, the base of the Yukoku Isshinkai, the villa complex belonging to Takagi Saya's family.
Lingyun was inspecting the vehicles; he didn't want the cars to break down halfway through the evacuation, as that would definitely lead to big trouble. Luo Yexi stood on the perimeter wall, looking at the surrounding scenery while observing the situation of the undead.
"This city should have been a beautiful city originally; it's just a pity that after the undead appeared, the whole world collapsed!" Luo Yexi sighed in her heart.
"Ye Xi, get ready, we are about to set off." Seeing everyone moving their daily supplies onto the cars, Lingyun spoke to Luo Yexi, who was standing on the wall.
Luo Yexi leaped off the wall and landed on the roof of the Humvee: "Master, the situation seems a bit unfavorable. The number of undead has increased quite a bit, and a small portion of the undead have already shown signs of evolution, with certain improvements in hearing and speed. Their movement speed can be compared to the jogging speed of an ordinary person. A very small number of undead can reach the speed of a normal person running at full tilt. If our vehicles cannot break out before being surrounded by them, there is a considerable amount of danger."
Hearing Luo Yexi's words, everyone present felt a shock in their hearts; if such a situation really occurred, then their chances of escaping would drop even further.
"Is that so? Then we just need to break out before they surround us." Lingyun nodded. "Komuro Takashi, Hirano Kouta, lend me your shotgun and sniper rifle; I will be responsible for clearing the path. Ye Xi, you stay in the rear vehicle, responsible for covering the retreat, and at the same time, watch for any Claws appearing."
Komuro Takashi and Hirano Kouta hesitated for a moment, then handed the firearms in their hands to Lingyun. Lingyun took the guns, held the shotgun in his hand, slung the sniper rifle over his back, and then took a few boxes of bullets.
"Everyone else, get in the cars quickly, close the windows tight. Humvee in front, Off-road vehicle in the back; we must rush out of the city as quickly as possible and find an opportunity to cross the Yuubetsu Bridge," Lingyun urged.
"Um, Ling-san, Luo-san, where are you two sitting?" Marikawa Shizuka asked.
"The two of us will just sit on the roof of the car," Lingyun said.
"But, on the roof of the car, can you sit steadily? If you fall off the car, that would be a very dangerous thing!" Marikawa Shizuka asked.
Lingyun shook his head: "This is an extraordinary time; we won't joke around with our own lives. Don't worry, is everyone ready? We are leaving immediately!"
"Last night, I faintly heard gunshots in the direction of the Yuubetsu Bridge; perhaps there are still military police there. If we can reach that place, maybe we will be safe," Igou Hisashi said to everyone present, then climbed into the Humvee.
The people present all became excited; no matter what, they still held high hopes for the military police who possessed powerful firepower. Everyone got into the cars; Lingyun opened the gate and then leaped onto the roof of the Humvee. Luo Yexi also leaped onto the roof of the Off-road vehicle.
After the two leaped onto the car roofs, the Humvee and the Off-road vehicle simultaneously revved their engines and charged out. Lingyun and Luo Yexi both stabilized their stances, their bodies pinned to the car roofs. Seeing that the two were fine, Marikawa Shizuka and the other driver felt relieved, then floored the gas and drove toward the direction of the Yuubetsu Bridge.
As the roar of the car engines rang out, the undead wandering aimlessly on the street were immediately stimulated and swarmed toward the direction of the two cars. The ones behind were nothing to worry about; after all, no matter how fast they ran, they couldn't catch up to the speed of the Humvee and the Off-road vehicle. However, the guys appearing in front were troublesome; once they blocked the path ahead and the cars couldn't get through, most of the people in their group would be dead.
Lingyun raised the shotgun in his hand and fired a shot at the front cleanly and decisively; the undead about to block the front of the car were instantly blasted away, clearing the path for the car.
"Master, some undead with faster movement speeds have formed a small human wall in front. If the Humvee charges straight through, the speed will drop by at least half," Luo Yexi reported to Lingyun, holding the binoculars in her hand.
"Then, try this." Lingyun pulled a very simple-looking paper package from his bosom and threw it with all his might. After the paper package traced an arc, it landed in a corner to the right of the human wall formed by the undead.
"Beep, beep," a harsh sound came from the paper package, attracting all the undead forming the human wall. When the undead gathered to a certain number, a Flash came from the paper package, followed by a violent explosion. The undead gathered around the paper package were instantly blown away, with remains scattering everywhere.
"Th-this couldn't be a homemade explosive pack!" Hirano Kouta couldn't help but be dumbfounded, "Could it be that this is what Ling-kun was tinkering with last night? What kind of background does Ling-kun have? He can even make this kind of thing? And this power, it's too great!"
The others in the cars were also horrified in their own ways. Takagi Saya looked at the direction where the explosive pack exploded, the dark light in her eyes flickering, but she said nothing.
If their shock were known to Lingyun, he would probably just smile. In the countless worlds he had traveled through before, learning to make explosive packs was just a small matter; if given enough materials and time, he could even build a Gundam for you!
On the road ahead, most of the undead that swarmed over were dealt with by Lingyun in advance, giving them no chance to form a encirclement at all. If there were any that had already formed a human wall, he would just throw an explosive pack over and blast them all to the sky.
