Chapter 37: Lingyun's Strength

~10 min read 1,884 words

With a "clang," Luo Yexi had already engaged the first Tyrant; the long sword in her hand collided with the Tyrant's sharp claws, sparking a burst of fire.

"Tch, what truly incomprehensible brute force." Feeling the pressure on her long sword, Luo Yexi clicked her tongue, feeling somewhat stifled.

Seeing that the person before it had not been swatted away by its claw, the Tyrant's somewhat sluggish brain couldn't process the situation for a moment. However, it quickly recovered, letting out an angry roar; it felt provoked by the creature before it. Retracting its claw, the Tyrant roared and used all its strength to swat its other claw toward Luo Yexi.

Realizing that she was not superior to the Tyrant in strength, Luo Yexi shifted her feet, her figure flickering to the side of the Tyrant. A trace of red light swept across the blade; Luo Yexi circulated her Nine Yang Inner Strength, gripped the sword with both hands, and slashed diagonally from top to bottom. With a splash of blood, the Tyrant's right arm was severed in one stroke.

Having succeeded in her strike, Luo Yexi retreated rapidly. A car came whistling from afar, slamming heavily into the one-armed Tyrant, the immense impact knocking it flying several meters away. If Luo Yexi had retreated any slower, she would have been hit by the car as well.

Just as Luo Yexi stood steady, another car came whistling toward her. Luo Yexi leaped upward, and as she descended, she stepped right onto the car in mid-air. Using the car as a stepping stone, she darted toward the other Tyrant.

"Roar," a roar came from the mouth of that Tyrant. It reached out and lifted the last small car beside it, throwing it toward Luo Yexi in the sky; the body of the car instantly obscured Luo Yexi's figure.

Just as the Tyrant let out a triumphant roar, a red line appeared in the middle of the car flying toward Luo Yexi. Afterward, the entire car split into two halves centered on the red line and flew off to both sides.

This change stunned the Tyrant. In the instant it was dazed, Luo Yexi had already pounced in front of it, the long sword in her hand slashing down with the force of a thunderbolt. A red light spread from the middle of the Tyrant's head all the way to its crotch, and then the Tyrant was split in two.

Having dealt with one Tyrant in one fell swoop, Luo Yexi did not stop, but instead darted toward the direction of the other Tyrants.

On the other side, Busujima Saeko faced a swarm of Claws alone with her blade. Claws are at the Fourth Level of mutated zombies, and their strength is quite decent; at the very least, they can cause massive damage when facing ordinary humans. However, this time, they were up against Busujima Saeko, who had mastered a portion of Shura Power.

Watching the Claws surrounding her, a somewhat broken smile appeared on Busujima Saeko's face. The blood-colored mist on her body lingered on the blade, giving the Samurai Sword an eerie red appearance.

"Kill!" Busujima Saeko stomped her right foot on the ground and charged toward a Claw. The Claw let out a roar, its sharp claws stabbing straight at Busujima Saeko. Busujima Saeko did not dodge or evade; the blood-colored mist on her body condensed into a small Shield where she was about to be hit, forcefully withstanding the Claw's attack. At the same time, the Samurai Sword in Busujima Saeko's hand swung, slicing the Claw in front of her into two pieces in one stroke.

The Shield hit by the Claw shattered instantly, and the blood-colored mist on Busujima Saeko's body thinned slightly. However, wisps of blood-colored energy drifted out from the Claw that had been sliced in two, drilling into the blood mist and instantly replenishing the vanished mist. Seeing this, Busujima Saeko flickered and pounced toward the next Claw.

On the rooftop, Lingyun watched Busujima Saeko's state and sighed slightly in his heart; the situation he was worried about had happened after all. However, now was not a good time to resolve this matter; after all, there were still so many zombies around eyeing him covetously.

"Bang, bang," Lingyun gripped his sniper rifle, flashes of fire appearing at the muzzle. Bullet after bullet of death flew out from the muzzle, striking one Licker after another.

Among all the zombies present, the ones that posed the greatest threat to the group were the Lickers. Because they possessed powerful attack capabilities while also having extremely high movement speeds. Therefore, they became Lingyun's primary sniper targets.

After Lingyun sniped more than half of the Lickers, all the Lickers on the scene finally used their not-so-bright brains to consider that the greatest threat to them was not the two humans below, but the human hiding on the rooftop. Thus, they abandoned the plan to surround Luo Yexi and the other, turning instead to pounce toward Lingyun's direction.

"To be able to react in such a short time, it should be said that they already possess a certain level of intelligence." Watching the Lickers sprinting toward his direction, Lingyun opened fire repeatedly, knocking down quite a few zombies in a short time.

With a "bang," one Licker finally broke through the barrage Lingyun had set up and landed on the rooftop.

With a "swish," a long tongue shot out from the Licker's mouth, darting toward Lingyun. Lingyun shifted his body slightly, the sniper rifle in his hand spat fire, and a bullet hit the Licker's brain squarely. The Licker let out a mournful cry, its body swayed, and it fell off the rooftop.

In the time it took for this delay, several Lickers leaped onto the rooftop one after another. Looking at the Lickers surrounding him, Lingyun knew that the sniper rifle in his hand was no longer of much use. With a flick of his right hand, the sniper rifle in his hand had been replaced by a long sword shimmering with cold light.

The Lickers that leaped onto the rooftop used their most powerful weapon—their tongues—directly against Lingyun. Several tongues shot toward Lingyun with force, vaguely sealing off all the space Lingyun could use to dodge.

Watching the rapidly approaching tongues, Lingyun narrowed his eyes slightly. The long sword in his hand traced a cold light, striking one tongue first despite being launched later. The Licker's tongue was quite tough and was not severed by Lingyun's sword. However, that tongue was deflected by Lingyun's strike and subsequently collided with the other tongues. The tongues, possessing considerable impact force, became entangled in this collision and could not separate for a time.

Lingyun took the opportunity to rush in front of a Licker and stabbed its head with one sword strike. Having succeeded in his strike, Lingyun's figure flickered, and he darted toward another Licker. In the blink of an eye, a burst of blood exploded from the heads of the Lickers on the rooftop, and they collapsed to the ground.

"Not much to them, after all." Lingyun shook the long sword in his hand and looked at a Licker pouncing through the air. He saw the long sword in his hand vibrate, and he slashed down at the Licker; a Sword Qi shot out from the long sword, directly slicing that Licker in two.

However, following closely behind that Licker were six more Lickers; it was too late to use Sword Qi now. Lingyun frowned slightly, his body flew backward, and at the same time, his left hand gestured, a wisp of red light flashing and disappearing in his hand.

"Bang," the Lickers landed on the rooftop, kicking up clouds of dust. Lingyun pressed his left hand into the Void, and several Fireballs shot out from his hand, passing through the dust and hitting the group of Lickers directly.

Bursts of fire flashed, and in Lingyun's perception, four Lickers were blasted off the rooftop, and the remaining two were also heavily injured. However, Lingyun did not let his guard down in the slightest; the Lickers' vitality was extremely tenacious, and being injured would only make them more ferocious.

Sure enough, two Lickers rushed out from the dust, pouncing toward Lingyun with the force of Mount Tai. The long sword in Lingyun's hand pointed out twice in rapid succession, severing their last bit of life.

"Tch, the combat power of these guys isn't much either. But this feeling of slaughter is really quite nice." Busujima Saeko killed the last Claw in front of her; a trace of disdain appeared on her face, but a hint of intoxication flashed in her eyes.

A roar sounded in front of her, and a huge shadow blocked her path. Busujima Saeko's heart skipped a beat; she looked up and saw a Tyrant standing before her, its right hand raised high, clawing down at her crazily.

"Oh no!" The alarm bells in Busujima Saeko's heart rang wildly. The blood-colored mist on her body instantly gathered entirely onto the Samurai Sword, and she gripped the sword with both hands, blocking upward with all her might.

The Tyrant's sharp claws collided with the Samurai Sword, sparks flying and a violent explosion sounding. Busujima Saeko only felt an immense force slam into her Samurai Sword; her body couldn't help but fly backward, crashing heavily into the perimeter wall.

"Pfft—," Busujima Saeko spat out a mouthful of blood. She felt that her internal organs had been severely damaged in this impact, and her right hand holding the sword was trembling incessantly, having lost the strength to swing the sword again.

Struggling to stand up, Busujima Saeko looked at the Tyrant approaching her, a trace of regret and despair flashing in her eyes. If she hadn't been too excited, she wouldn't have been approached by the Tyrant and thus severely injured by it. Now Luo Yexi was entangled by several Tyrants and couldn't rescue her for a moment; was she going to die?

As the Tyrant approached, Busujima Saeko mobilized all the Shura Power within her body. Even if she were to die at the hands of this Tyrant, she would drag it along with her; a fierce look flashed in Busujima Saeko's eyes.

Just as Busujima Saeko was preparing to detonate the Shura Power within her body to give this Tyrant a full-force strike, a figure landed in front of her. Afterward, countless sword shadows flashed in her eyes, and the Tyrant in front of her was forcefully pushed back by this sword light.

"You'll have to be more careful next time; I can't rescue you in time every single time," Lingyun said indifferently, his back to Busujima Saeko.

"Roar—," a roar came from the Tyrant's mouth. It raised its right claw and slashed toward Lingyun with all its might.

Lingyun raised the sword in his hand, wisps of sword light gathering on his blade, finally condensing a layer of silver light on the sword.

"Break!" Lingyun swung his sword. This strike was so fast that even Busujima Saeko could only see a flash of sword light pass over the Tyrant's body.

The previously aggressive Tyrant stopped abruptly. A silver light burst from its body, and then it slowly collapsed to the ground.
